24.01.2022 Hey all, one of our friends at The Laird has had a fake profile set up with their name and photo. If you see the profile below, please report it and block it as it is a fake. Unfortunately other members of the bear community have had fake profiles set up using their pictures too on Instagram. If anyone you know suddenly pops up with a new profile on Instagram, Facebook, Grindr, Recon, ChristianMingle, etc. make sure it's theirs and not a fake. Don't give them any personal i...nformation without verifying who you're talking to. Stay safe on the internet bears!

20.01.2022 Looking for some inspbearation in the kitchen with no effort? Chicken minions with garlic butter. Get some chicken thighs, cut to size, wrap in streaky bacon (a toothpick to hold in place) and plop some garlic butter on top. 30 mins in the oven at around 200 and you're done! Of course I made it with bacon from La Villa Salumi! Don't forget they're still delivering, even in stage 4.

Shane was a huge contributor to the bear community here in Melbourne, and with VicBears at our Beartopia events. He was the Bearaoke King. 17.01.2022 Please find at the end of this post a statement from Cam Douglas. The committee thanks him for taking responsibility while we as a committee continue to work through this, including disciplinary action. I want to make clear that these opinions are not those of VicBears, or anyone else on the committee including myself. ... Here are some steps we are doing: - Set up of an inclusion committee chaired by Josh. This will be taking applications next week. It will be open to everyone who wishes to apply. - An actual social media policy for committee, which applies while serving on the committee. - A buddy system for new members which will be run by Adam Walton, including new members nights. - Club about charter will be updated to include race, which hasn’t been updated since 2018. At the AGM 2 weeks ago, a committee was voted and positions decided. I want to make it known to you all that I plan to put forward for Aaron Jenson to take position of President, and I move back to Treasurer. Aaron Jenson was my rock and a leader on this issue, I feel that this shows he would have been the better pick. This will be discussed further on Sunday and the outcome posted. We have also had 3 people request to come on the committee and these are being contacted. Please, anyone else we welcome you to come forward. Change will only happen if we have those with good intentions pitching in. Thank you, Mick

Sorry if we've been a bit quiet but we can assure you that in the background we've been working and planning to try and bring a full year's calendar of events to life in this new COVID normal. We do have a Den Night planned for February which we were going to announce today but with the announcement of the new restrictions, we thought it was best to wait and see. Concerning the new restrictions well what can we say that hasn’t already been said. It may only be fo...r five days at this stage but that doesn’t mean some of us aren’t going to struggle, so let’s show that the bear community extends outside of the Den Nights and parties and reach out to each other over the next five days. 14.01.2022 We just received our 200th member signup for 2021! We just want to once again thank all our existing and new members. Without your support we wouldn’t have a club at all

13.01.2022 The committee is aware of the claims on various social media platforms and aware of the concerns about inclusivity, respect and diversity within the club. A few members of the committee have also sought feedback from people who are both members and non members about these concerns and what needs to be done as a club to ensure it is a safe and inclusive club for all those who want to be part of the community. On Sunday, the committee is getting together to discuss this feedbac...k. But we can't exist in a vacuum and dictate our own path. The very first step in this is the formation of a subcommittee on inclusion within VicBears. Our request of this subcommittee will be to liaise with and discuss with people, both members and people who have doubts and reasons for not being a member or not wanting to join the community and to make recommendations both to the committee and to the members on ways we can support inclusion and diversity. To make things clear, this subcommittee will not have any members of the committee on it. We will announce number of seats, and the chairperson shortly, with people able to apply to be on the subcommittee. This will be open to members and non members in the interest of inclusion. Also to be clear, the subcommittee will be accountable to the members and not the committee. The goal is to make proposals for changes to our Rules of Association to support inclusion and diversity, to ensure that no person feels excluded or unwanted and to ensure members and committee understand their rights and obligations to fellow members and the community. Over the weekend I will be setting up an anonymous online form. You will be able to provide feedback or concerns to both the committee and subcommittee anonymously on any issues you may have.
