23.01.2022 MINISTERIAL SEAL OF APPROVAL: It's our annual Poppy Appeal tomorrow ... and we're pulling out the big guns to generate support for our fundraiser https://www....rslwa.org.au/donate/. Please keep an eye out for our volunteer collectors in the CBD tomorrow morning, with every single cent going towards lifesaving programs for Veterans. As you can see here, Veterans Issues Minister Peter Tinley AM, himself a special forces Veteran, has given his seal of approval, joined by some of RSLWA's tireless volunteer Poppy Ladies, who will be collecting in London Court tomorrow. This week, we hope to honour our Defence Veterans with a successful Appeal. Please join us! Lest we forget! #TeamVeteran See more

16.01.2022 Today’s Time-warp Tuesday we meet the man behind the name of Benporath Street, Burswood. Frank Hilton Benporath was an electrician by trade, and growing up had ...been involved in various military units prior to the outbreak of World War I. Frank enjoyed cycling and often competed in amateur races. He lived with his wife Stella in Egham Street, Victoria Park (now Burswood). Enlisting just weeks after war was declared, Frank embarked in November 1914 for the Gallipoli peninsula. Wounded three times during his service, on 16 August 1916, he died of wounds received in action. He was 31 years old. In 1918 the Perth City Council renamed a number of streets in honour of fallen war heroes. They renamed Duke Street to Benporath Street in honour of Frank Hilton Benporath. For more of Frank’s story check out his entry in the Victoria Park Dictionary of Biography (https://www.victoriapark.wa.gov.au//Victoria-Park-Dictiona) If you have photographs, posters or other items that tell the story of Victoria Park and suburbs, we would love to see them. Please get in touch on 9373 5500 or email [email protected] #LoveVicPark

13.01.2022 BROTHERS IN ARMS: We've had a medal collection handed in, belonging to deceased WWII Army Veteran Raymond Alexandra Minson (W55560). Mr Minson, who lived in Dia...nella, died a decade ago aged 84. However, there's a slim chance his older brother, James Gordon Minson (WX14281), may still be alive. If so, Mr Minson would now be 100 and we'd love to find him, specially to learn more of the pair's scallywag adventures, as reported in The Daily News in 1950. Can you help? #rslwamateship See more
