20.01.2022 Time for tea?! Soak in a huge porcelain teacup at Yuuzen no Yado Toukai, a unique ryokan set in the Ureshino Onsen district in Saga Prefecture. Said to be one of the most highly rated hot spring areas in Japan, the city of Ureshino is known for its healing waters. You can get to the Ureshino Onsen district by train and then bus. Opened in 1969, the Hakone Open Air Museum was Japans first open-air art museum and now boasts a permanent collection of around 100 sculptures scattered around 70,000 square metres of lawns and gardens, featuring pieces like the Sfera con Sfera (Sphere within Sphere) by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro (pictured). Dont forget to also visit the Picasso Pavilion, which features more than 300 of the Spanish masters works. The museum is easily accessible from Tokyo making it a great day or overnight trip. Take the shinkansen from Tokyo to Odawara Station, transfer to the Odakyu to Hakone-Yumoto Station, then take the Hakone Tozan Line to Chokoku-no-Mori Station. Visitors to Kurashiki City can experience the beautifully-preserved historical Bikan district from a gondola ride through the picturesque willow-lined canal, a romantic way to learn about the towns unique history. Located in Okayama Prefecture along the Seto Inland Sea, Kurashiki is known to be one of Japans old Edo-era merchant towns. Called Tsutanuma Lake, it's one of the Tsuta Seven Lakes (also known as Tsuta Nana Numa). 09.01.2022 Let us introduce you to Koyasan. A World Heritage site, the eight peaks and basin of Koyasan are reminiscent of the auspicious lotus flower. Founded by Kobo Daishi (also the founder of Shingon Buddhism) in 816AD, this monastery complex was once home to over 2,000 temples, with 117 remaining today. A great way to experience Koyasan is by spending a night at one of the 52 temples that offer accommodation, peaceful gardens and relaxing hot springs. 07.01.2022 One of the best ways to see the natural beauty of Oboke Gorge is with a river cruise on a 30-minute sightseeing boat. There are gorge-ous sights to appreciate in all four seasons, from snow-capped mountains in the winter or wild cherry trees colouring the hillside in spring to the fresh new green leaves in summer or the colored leaves of autumn.
