21.01.2022 Congratulations to the wonderful nipaluna-based artist MOLLY TURNER (Mouldy Turner) for receiving the VB $500 award to support new work! Amalgamated from the last of our pot of funds, this $500 will go towards materials for a new quilt Molly is embroidering, inspired by the things that "still move, flux and thrive though this pandemic." Can't wait to see it in the flesh some day! Love, VB Images (courtesy of the artist) of Molly at her exhibition at Good Grief Studios, plus 3 of her embroidered pieces

13.01.2022 A warm hello from our living room to yours. Visual Bulk is all wrapped up, and we are in the process of clearing the coffers! After 5 years, much art, much music, much dancing, many beers and an equally massive clean up involving a staggering number of tip runs (thanks to everyone who participated in that fun) we still have a wee bit of cash left in the kitty. ... With many arts opportunities drying up due to the ~ current situation ~ we believe that now is an incredibly important time to support our fellow artists however we can. Visual Bulk will award one artist residing in lutruwita/Tasmania $500 towards making a new work of any form. Please send through a 100 word proposal and 1-3 relevant images (of the proposed work or past examples of work) to [email protected]. Applications will be open for ONE WEEK ONLY with cut off midnight 22 April. There's a lot of grants out there asking for artists to respond to the ~ current situation ~ but this isn't a priority here. You can propose whatever you want, it doesn't have to be something that ends up online. We will be looking for a compelling project achievable for this modest offering of $$$, and that you can make while in isolation. If you have any difficulty with writing a proposal but would like to apply please get in touch at [email protected]. In solidarity, VB ----------------------------------------------------- Visual Bulk acknowledge the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community as the continuing custodians and Traditional Owners of lutruwita, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty has never been ceded. ----------------------------------------------------- Image 1: Jack Mitchell and Hailey Atkins from the show 'I am clam I mean calm' Image 2: Sarah Poulgrain 'Slow movement sequence'. 01.01.2022 On the occassion of our fourth rotation around the sun, we invite you, our beautiful, ever-supportive community, to join us in celebrating VBs DEATHDAY! https://www.facebook.com/events/480819549215394/ ***SATURDAY 14 DECEMBER, 2019***... ***TIMES, SETS, AND ALL PRACTICAL THINGS TBA*** The time has come for us (Theia + Grace) to pack it in after four years of playing at making *Visual Bulk* at our humble garage in Argyle St, Hobart. We opened with a bang(ing event) on December 12 in 2015, and since then have had 43 exhibitions, approx 30 gigs + various talks, experiments, Bulk Marts, residencies, karaoke birthday parties, countless organisational collaborators + volunteers, and all kinds of things in between. We have also sunk a million beers (for better or worse) to pay the rent - a model that has allowed us to remain majority funded by our community via bar and merch sales, and non-reliant on the horrid state of govt funding. Needless to say we close our doors with the heaviest of hearts. Visual Bulk has exploded our expectations of what we could manage collectively and how a community could take ownership over a truly chaotic small parcel of space and make it sparkle. We finish up knowing there are brilliant things on the horizon in spaces like Good Grief and other emerging artists and facilitators who will no doubt form new paths through the Hobart art scene. We'd like to acknowledge and pay our deepest respects to the palawa people who are the traditional owners of the lands and waters on which we have worked, experimented, and come together on over these four years. The Tasmanian Aboriginal community maintain an unbroken and incredibly strong connection to this place, nipaluna in lutruwita, and we pay our respects to community Elders - past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. We hope if anyone is thinking about starting a space and wants to ask us questions or approach us to discuss how something like VB operated, you can feel most welcome to connect with us via the vb email ([email protected]) or Facebook. Grace and I are excited about what Visual Bulk might become in the future, as a joint platform to imagine new ways of making and facilitating. You may not've seen the end of VB yet! THANK YOU a million times over for showing up, participating in and supporting emerging, experimental arts practice. It's been such a pleasure to be involved! Stay tuned for all the relevant info, including an upcoming GARAGE SALE (likely during the day on Saturday 14th) Love Theia + Grace xoxo
