04.01.2022 Any type of trauma, from a terrorist attack and combat accidents to a car accident, a natural disaster, child abuse, rape, assault and domestic violence brings about certain changes in the body and the brain. Each and every part of the body records memories and every trauma-related, embedded neuropathway has the potentiality to reactivate repeatedly. One of the hardest aspects for survivors of trauma is understanding the alterations that have taken place and accurately perceiving what they mean, how they affect their lives and what can be done to deal with them. Any effective recovery process will start with normalizing post-trauma or PTSD symptoms by studying how trauma affects your brain. 02.01.2022 Apparently 1 in 5 men have no friends according to this article. In a world where were more connected via technology, it seems weve never been so disconnected. Put down the world of superficial connection aka Instagram, Twitter, Fb, LinkedIn etc, and walk out the door and start talking to people. Since I got my gorgeous puppy, Jimi 5 months ago, Ive been amazed at just how many people want to stop and have a chat with me, whether they have a dog or not (other dog owners... especially love to stop and chat... there must be something soft-hearted about dog owners I think!). This would neverrr happen before I got Jimi. Id walk down the street and there would be almost zero interaction either way. If you smiled or said hello to someone heaven forbid they would look at you like you had something odd on your face. Today I took jimi to the dog park and my puppy and an exact look alike of exact same age became instant friends and played together for ages! And out of that I made 2 new friends and we exchanged numbers and weve been texting since and were going to catch up again soon. The truth is, many people are lonely. In my profession as a Clinical Psychologist, I hear about it on the daily. Everyone seems lonely, everyone wants more friends.. but whos actually getting out there and making real, genuine connection with others, in person? You dont necessarily need a dog (but it helps ) .. you just need to actually take the time to say hello to others and ask them how their day is, aka them if they live around the area, do they come there often, and keep asking questions about them. As the famous book by Dale Carnegie- How to Win Friends and Influence People says, show interest in people, ask them questions and get them talking about themselves; people love talking about themselves, but be GENUINELY interested in them. That will allow the person to feel comfortable to open up to you and talk more. Lets start making more friends and being less lonely - Ashley See more
