15.01.2022 Yesterday, Volunteering SA&NT coordinated the completion of a 700m walking trail in the Malcolm Wicks Reserve (Leslie Road, Lenswood/Basket Range) as part of our Business & Corporate Volunteering Program. Barenbrug staff volunteered to clear the walking trail for the National Trust of South Australia The National Trust will add a plaque to one of the picnic tables, recognising the support of Barenbrug with the clearing of the trail. In World War 2 there were 433,101 volunteers, this time 54,660 and 1049 from the Northern Territory*. All of these men and women were volunteers. To put this in perspective, the seating capacity in Adelaide oval is 53,500, the South Australian numbers alone could fill the oval almost twice. This week we are getting to know Hayley Thiele, who Regional Coordinator based in Port Augusta. She also supports the Marketing and Communications team with social media. ... What do you enjoy the most about working at VSA&NT? VSA&NT is an inclusive, flexible and wonderful place to work, I feel very lucky to be part of the organisation and love that I get to work in regional communities where volunteering is so important for ongoing sustainability. It’s nice when you feel like your work can make a difference. What do you enjoy about your own volunteering roles? Pre-COVID, I helped to facilitate a small playgroup at one of the aged care facilities in my home town. I would take my 3 young daughters there every fortnight and we all loved it. The residents would share stories of their own children, colour in, play with playdough and sing songs with the kids; it was just beautiful. The staff and residents were always so grateful that we took the time to do this whereas really I am thankful to them for the experience. I can’t wait to be able to do this again. What do you do when you aren’t at work? I run a small business, enjoy camping, hiking and exploring with my little family. If you had to eat one type of food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Mexican! The guacamole, the sour cream, the corn the chips. Everything about it!
