24.01.2022 The Liberal Party is so concerned that I am going to win the seat of Oodgeroo from the far-right Mark Robinson that they have diverted Deb Frecklington from other seats to visit Oodgeroo! This article from today's Guardian shows that they are very, very worried! Keep up the great vote4claire campaign everyone - we are nearly there! I am a true Independent and will be a strong voice for our community.

23.01.2022 The Redland City Bulletin has published my introductory video and statement online prior to Election Day on 31st October. I will be at the Cleveland pre-poll station at the Baptist Church on Bloomfield Street until 30th October - please drop by and have a chat if you have a moment.

21.01.2022 So the fight for the Oodgeroo electorate is well and truly down to the wire as reported by The Guardian Australia. Nothing is certain until all the votes are counted, but the article clearly shows that I can win. Thank you to those voters who have already voted for me. To those who are still to cast their ballot, know that your vote for me is so important if you want to see real change in our community. When voting, start by putting '1' against my name on the ballot paper, then choose your own preferences by putting a number in the other 5 boxes. Put a number in EVERY box for your vote to be valid.

19.01.2022 I have contacted Redland City Council and QYAC to provide further information in relation to the Temporary Local Planning Instrument (TLPI) that was the subject of media coverage yesterday. In particular, I have sought clarification around the process that culminated in the TLPI - had there been an application made to Council to allow for the proposed land use changes? Were these changes contemplated in the 2011 ILUA? Has there been community consultation during the (no doub...t lengthy) planning process that resulted in this application? Complex issues of this type warrant thorough consideration of the facts and circumstances. Once I have received a formal response from QYAC and Council, I will post my comments on the proposal and the process that has been adopted. As an Independent, I will rely on facts and evidence when responding to issues that have the potential to significantly affect our Oodgeroo Community.

18.01.2022 At the RCC Chamber of Commerce candidates breakfast this morning I discussed my approach to creating more than a 1,000 permanent jobs in Oodgeroo. I also spoke about my concerns about the focus on temporary construction jobs as an apparent ‘economic policy' for Redlands, and the need to provide a diverse business base that provides genuine jobs now and for the future. My policy initiatives to create more than 1,000 local jobs in clean renewable industries include the proposed... Redlands Technology Park at the state owned Redlands Research Station in Cleveland, a renewable power station on the former sandmine on Minjerribah/North Stradbroke Island, fast tracking the terminal upgrade for the Stradbroke Island ferry service to support tourism, and distributed work centres in Cleveland town centre for state workers. As an independent, my energy will be devoted toward transforming the economy in the Redlands from a focus on construction related employment to a broader base of industry sectors that provide genuine long-term employment for the local community.

18.01.2022 As an Independent, a key focus of mine is to seek unity within our community rather than the division that is so often the hallmark of party politics. Following the somewhat divisive media coverage of North Stradbroke Island over the last few weeks, I have had very positive discussions with representatives of QYAC, Elders In Council, numerous community members as well as with Cr Peter Mitchell. A common theme in these discussions has been concerns about the divisive influence of party politics on the future of North Stradbroke Island. As an Independent that has never been a member of a local or national political party, I will seek to unify the Oodgeroo Community to achieve the best outcomes for all.

17.01.2022 The latest edition of the 'Oodgeroo Times' containing details of my policies to create 1,000+ new, permanent jobs in Oodgeroo in clean and high tech industries has now been delivered to all homes in the electorate. Here is a copy, just in case you missed it.

17.01.2022 Walker Corporation continue to repeat inaccurate information to justify Toondah Town in Moreton Bay. My full, unedited response to the false accusations levvied at me by Walker Corporation in the Redland City Bulletin on 16th September is shown in this image, alongside the Walker Corporation RCB letter written by Dolan Hayes. It is very disturbing that Walker Corporation continue to justify this project on the basis of false information about the safety of the current shippin...g channel. It is even more disturbing that State ALP and Federal LNP governments continue to support this project while they wait for 'the Science', ie, the EIS, to confirm whether it is acceptable. The fact is that Federal government scientists advised in both 2016 and 2017 that the project was unacceptable. This scientific advice from departmental experts was over-ruled by then Federal Environment Minister Josh Freydenberg, who is not known for his scientific credentials - rather, the Hon. Mr Freydenburg studied law, economics and international relations at university - not a whiff of science to be seen! As an Independent I will advocate for full information and honesty about projects that have potential to significantly affect our Redlands lifestyle.

17.01.2022 If you’re planning to vote for me on Election Day tomorrow, make sure you do it bright and early. Voting booths open at 8.am and close at 6 pm. It’s predicted there’s going to be a big storm with possible hail starting late Saturday morning - going through to the afternoon. Make sure you keep safe and beat the weather.

15.01.2022 Early voting has gone very well this week with over 7,000 voting in the Oodgeroo electorate. I have been at the Cleveland pre-poll every day except Thursday. I spent Thursday with my lovely daughter Alex as she prepared for her year 12 formal - family always comes first. I will be at the Cleveland booth Monday to Friday next week, please come and say hello if you come in to vote. If you have any questions for me before voting, send an SMS or leave a voicemail on 0447 147 147 - I will respond in the evening after the booth closes.

14.01.2022 Following my request for information, both Redland City Council and QYAC have provided me with some background to the development of the Transitional Local Planning Instrument (TLPI) that was the subject of recent media coverage. It appears that the TLPI was the culmination of many years of planning and involved the State government (both Liberal and Labour), Redland City Council as well as consultation with local Indigenous leaders and Traditional owner groups. The process ...moving forward is for further community consultation with Redland City Council taking the lead, as was indicated in the article in the RCB on Friday 18th September. If elected, I would welcome the opportunity to be closely involved in this process and to encourage open debate and consultation that seeks to address the needs of the entire community on Minjerribah/North Stradbroke Island.

14.01.2022 Stay tuned to Steve Austin's Drive program on ABC 612 4QR at 4.00 pm today for my interview with Steve.

13.01.2022 Transforming Redlands from a Dormitory Suburb - Redlands Technology Park My proposal for Stage 1 of the Redlands Technology Park features in this article in the Redland City Bulletin. Stage 1 of the proposal is designed to diversify the local economy by providing an estimated 500 jobs in modern, sustainable industries (based on the success of the Brisbane Technology Park at Eight Mile Plains). Ultimately, up to 4,000 jobs could be provided. The new jobs are expected to be in... a broad range of clean, modern industries that go beyond the tourism, retail and construction related jobs that traditionally have been dominant in the Redlands. With projects like this, we can provide valuable job opportunities in sustainable industries so Redlands can be transformed from a dormitory suburb of commuters to a modern City where locals can work, live and play.

12.01.2022 The 2020 State Election requires voters to preference every candidate. As a true Independent, I will not be nominating preferences - voters should simply Vote 1 for Claire, then number the other candidates according to personal preference. ALL boxes on the voting slip must be numbered or the vote will be invalid. If elected, I will work productively with whichever party is in government. If there is a hung parliament, and I have the opportunity of determining which party takes government, I will support the party that provides the best deal for the Oodgeroo community. A true Independent represents their community - and not a Political Party. Support a real independent - donate now at www.vote4claire.com.au.

12.01.2022 If my images of Toondah harbour concerned you - take a look at the 3-D fly-through in this video. The 3-D fly through and images illustrate how the proposal could look based on the developer's information. Do you support this development? Please post your comments and share the video.

10.01.2022 An exit poll has demonstrated that I am the front runner to win the seat of Oodgeroo, and the Courier Mail article today recognises this. Oodgeroo is now seen as one of the seats that will determine the next Queensland government. I am a true independent, and if elected and my vote is required to determine the next government, I will support whichever party will deliver the most to our community.

10.01.2022 Today the email addresses of over 400 Oodgeroo voters were circulated by the LNP Oodgeroo office obviously someone forgot to use the ‘bcc’ function The email from the current Oodgeroo MP committed to a Parliamentary Inquiry into the recently announced Transitional Local Planning Instrument (TLPI) for North Stradbroke Island. Clearly irony is not in the current political lexicon: a TLPI that is, in effect, a strategic document with no specific proposals for new buildings wa...rrants a tax payer funded Parliamentary Inquiry. A master plan for 3,600 apartments built in a protected wetland at Cleveland simply marches through to a full EIS with no mention of an inquiry from either side of politics - despite advice from Federal Government Scientists that it should proceed no further. As an Independent I will seek transparent and fair processes, and decisions that are based on fact and evidence, not political objectives.

07.01.2022 Our campaign team was out in force this weekend, with a number of roadside displays and with myself and supporters meeting hundreds of voters around the electorate. The brochure delivery by over 30 supporters is also in full swing and should be completed in the next day or so. I would like to acknowledge the amazing efforts of so many of my hard working volunteers - thank you, it was a fantastic team effort this weekend. And a very big welcome to all of the new Vote4Claire supporters that have joined this week - including Bob who will be towing a sign display behind his mobility scooter. Please give Bob a wave if you see him.

07.01.2022 It was great to be interviewed by Steve Austin of ABC radio about my policies for producing over 1,000 genuine, permanent jobs for Oodgeroo, my concerns about the lack of road and rail infrastructure in the Redlands and the proposed 3,600 residential unit apartment at Toondah Harbour on new land in Moreton Bay. My policies are designed to transform Oodgeroo from a dormitory suburb to a genuine city where we can work, live and play - not simply generate temporary construction ...jobs and more apartment blocks to house commuters. Listen to the interview using the attached link to the 26th October episode - the interview commences at 35.00 minutes. It was disappointing that the LNP and ALP candidates did not make themselves available to respond directly to the issues I raised during the interview with Steve. These issues are of great concern to the Oodgeroo community and our electorate deserves genuine representation, and not simply an MP that follows the party line or makes excuses about being in opposition. I am a genuine independent and have no current or previous membership of the LNP, ALP or Australian Greens or any pressure group. If elected, I will be a strong voice for our community.

05.01.2022 Reserve your spot for my Straddie Chamber of Commerce Breakfast on Thursday 8th October 2020 via the events link on my FB page.

03.01.2022 Tired of Party Politics? Vote for a Strong Independent Voice not a Party Puppet With the opinion polls for the October 31st state election indicating a hung parliament is possible, Independent MPs on the cross-bench may well hold the balance of power in the next parliament. Now is the time to take advantage of this situation Oodgeroo should not continue to miss out on State funding because the local MP is a member of the opposition. An independent can deliver better deals...Continue reading

03.01.2022 There’s more media interest in my independent campaign for the seat of Oodgeroo. This time from the Courier Mail’s ‘colourful’ opinion writer and wine expert, Des Houghton, who quizzed me on my campaign and what I stand for. I was happy to oblige - and, in the interests of accuracy, here’s how I answered his queries: No, I’m not running a campaign with independent Noosa MP, Sandi Bolton. I am grateful that she has kindly shared her experiences as an independent stat...e MP and how she makes her community’s voice heard. No, I’m not a ‘greenie’ - but I am opposed to inappropriate developments like the proposed $1.4 billion Toondah Harbour in the protected waters of Moreton Bay marine park. Yes, I’m a successful business woman, having headed up my own engineering consultancy for over 20 years and a strong focus of mine, if elected, will be on creating clean, modern jobs in the Redlands. Yes, I support Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) legislation in principle following my own research and consultation with the Oodgeroo community. I support new laws that provide a choice for Queenslanders, so long as they reflect community views, include a range of safeguards, and properly funded palliative care would also need to be available throughout the State. Yes, I support the right of women to have a choice when it comes to abortion and the rights of doctors to be protected when they provide this option. Check out my detailed policies on: www.vote4claire.com.au or call me for a chat on 0447 147 147.

02.01.2022 It has been lovely to spend some time on North Stradbroke Island/Minjerribah this weekend and relax after the first week of polling. Last night I joined Amanda from Enso Yoga at the yoga retreat dinner at the Point Lookout Bowls Club - the food was delicious and was served with great panache by the lovely Holly. This morning I caught up with the dedicated team of volunteers at Point Lookout SLSC. It was good to catch up with Gil, and I chatted with my friend Rose in the radio room and met the lunch crew. Then I topped off my lovely break from the polling booth with lunch at the Straddie Hotel with Mark and the Enzo yoga family. I am all relaxed now and ready for the home straight!

01.01.2022 Unifying Minjerribah/North Stradbroke Island Having spent the day on Minjerribah/North Stradbroke Island today, many locals expressed their concerns to me about the division being caused by the media coverage of the recently released temporary local planning instrument. It is very disappointing that party political point scoring appears to be the backdrop to the media coverage, rather than a focus on achieving the best outcomes for the whole community.... My proposal for a mediated solution rather than a formal Parliamentary Inquiry that may simply divide the community further was published in this Redland City Bulletin article. As an Independent, my energy will be directed to projects and solutions that draw the community together in a positive way, and achieve long term outcomes for Minjerribah/North Stradbroke Island and Oodgeroo. My proposal for a Community Owned Renewable Power Station for the island is an example of an innovative project designed to achieve these objectives.
