24.01.2022 Due to a cancellation, there is one (queen) room available for this Friday and Saturday at the Walcha Motel. Call Andy on 02 6777 2599. Yes this room is available until I edit this post.

20.01.2022 Thank fuck for that....even as it may be temporary. My information is that the pilot trip is 15 minutes, so if you just miss the vehicle the maximum wait is 30 minutes.

20.01.2022 Job done. 22.5k raised. This will go to 12 families. 1000 bucks in Bunnings and Officeworks gift cards to the local RFS, who are still manning the barricades. ... The fires are not out. They burn on. Our gratitude to all of you kind hearted and generous people who kicked the tin to help folks who’ve lost everything. A full report will follow.

18.01.2022 THOSE ATTENDING THE FIRE RUN TOMORROW Our original intention was to give the money direct to the affected people, but this has proven to be logistically impossible due to the difficulty in locating most of the dispossessed people and the inaccessibility of the affected area. In consultation with Eric Noakes (Walcha's Mayor), we have assembled a list of around 12 victims of the fires and shall be placing the money into envelopes with their names on them. At 5pm tomorrow (Frida...y) we shall assemble outside the motel and present the envelopes to a representative from Council who shall take them around to the council chambers and place them in a safe, to be distributed to the recipients as soon as Council is able to locate them. The items coming up on trucks and trailers will be unloaded at a TBC location, probably on Saturday morning. We have been advised by the RMS through the council that we will not be able to get through to Gingers Creek on Saturday. Anyone wanting to go for a ride can please themselves as to destination and duration. The ongoing closure of the Oxley Highway has seriously affected all of the hospitality businesses in Walcha. Please try and spread the love around a bit for meals and drinks etc. Enjoy your ride. Crashing is not permitted. See you all in Walcha tomorrow afternoon. Oh, and there is still one (queen) room left at the Walcha Motel if anyone wants it. Call Andy on 02 6777 2599.

18.01.2022 The Fire Run bank account is now closed, and the cheques are awaiting pickup. Please do not try to deposit any more money, we have no idea where it may end up. Again, thank you all for your generosity and support.

18.01.2022 Running total in the kitty is $16815.50 this morning. Everyone is awesome. This however is no time to go to sleep. If you have not yet expressed your awesomeness, get a bit more in the bag before about 3pm tomorrow (Friday). WALCHA FIRE RUN CLUB BSB 062-699 ACC 10057542

17.01.2022 And here it all is...

17.01.2022 Check this out. A collection of over 90 items available for you to bid on this Friday night at Walcha. Not just any collection but a mixed bag of bike racing related stickers, postcards and paraphernalia collected over the years by Mark Bracks as he journeyed around the world's great race tracks.... Fuck. We better censor the pics because there's tobacco sponsorship logos! Somebody hold me. Bathurst 1986 Yamaha Dealer Team, Shell Oils Series, ASBK / WSBK Australian rider promo stickers, Anthony Gobert, Kirk McCarthy, Andrew Pitt, Mat Mladin stickers all in excellent condition. Gardner / Doohan Rothmans Honda, Team Lucky Strike Roberts, Team Castrol Honda WSBK, Marlboro Grand Prix de France Wayne Rainey, pre Iron Curtain falling Grand Prix CSSR (Brno) stickers, IoM TT and even a postcard of Capirossi from 1990...a massive variety from Phillip Island to Anderstorp, Sweden '89 all waiting to be stuck to your bar or garage fridge. Check out the pics...zoom in and take note of the rarity, never to be seen again and collected personally by Bracksy over the years. No doubt a story behind every one! Auctioned Friday at Walcha only. Still time to donate: WALCHA FIRE RUN CLUB BSB 062-699 ACC 1005 7542 Cheers.

15.01.2022 Dear All. As of this hour, I believe I have sorted all the auction items and their respective recipients. I am organising for Karlos Neale's bayliss canvass to be signed by Bayliss. Mick Flower, the new owner has been told there is a process and that it will eventually make its way to him. ... I have contacted all the people on the list who have been the recipients of our fund-raising. Except one. I cannot get in touch with Carlos G. His number keeps ringing out. But we shall persevere. Once again, thank you all for your generosity and for your patience with me in getting you the goodies you so selflessly bid for. If I ever decide to fund-raise again, I have asked my wife to shoot me.

15.01.2022 The Oxley is still closed. Massive job. They actually had it open for a day last week and then another fire came through. The road will not be opened until it is safe. Walcha is still hurting. If you are travelling soon drop in and buy stuff or stay a night.

11.01.2022 Morning all. This is just a quick note and a few snaps from the weekend run up to Walcha. I will write a full report up in the next few days. I beg your indulgence. I must record a MotoPG podcast today and the day after tomorrow I am on a bike launch for three days, so it's kinda hectic.... Andy is adding up all the money, which is in excess of $22000 - an astonishing amount given how little time we had to bring this together. You people are amazing. Never mind the $1000 in giftcards and an entire truck-load of goodies driven up from Victoria by Katie Knight and Lorena Bobbit Mason - massive effort, ladies. We did all we could to help out this weekend. We ate and drank in all the pubs and the cafe. I think it was the first time the lady at the cafe experienced anything like us. I told you this wasn't a HOG run, didn't I? "The beer is on special," she said when the first four of us walked in. "It's five buck a can." "We shall have $400 worth, please." And so on. I shall be organising delivery of the auctioned items to the winning bidders over the next week or so. Please be patient. Admin work is not my strong point. But you will all get what you paid for. The bottom line is that we did something very worthwhile. You actually helped people. You didn't have to get dressed up. You didn't have to have a specific bike. The money did not go to some nebulous charity. The money is not being used to raise awareness. None of us are taking admin fees, marketing fees or insurance bullshit. You did have to ride somewhere nice. But you are motorcyclists. So how hard was that? Our public liability was donated by the National Motorcycle Alliance, because it also gets what charity actually is. We have decided to keep $300 as money to use for postage and courier fees to deliver the auctioned items - and I'm buggered if I know how I'm gonna get hand-made guitars to people, but I'm sure it can be done. My thanks to all who came along for the ride. My thanks also to the many of you who re-wrote the books on generosity. The Road Gods will smile upon you unto the ages of ages. A more eclectic bunch of riders would be hard to find. Everything from patched one percenters, to a hard-riding social club (love your work, Dino Dess and Vanguard Motorcycle Club Inc.) to just your average rider - Macedonians, Hungarians, country boys and city folks. Bravo to you all. I will write all of this up in a full report which will appear on the Bike Me website when it is done and it will be posted here as well so you can share and look down your nose at your mates who did not come for the ride. To my brother Andy Wright the proprietor of the Walcha Motel, and his good lady Sue, without whom this would not have been possible, well done and thank you. Congratulations to you all. Boris

08.01.2022 The two inextricable winners in Walcha's Sexiest Man competition on the weekend.

05.01.2022 Andy and I were wanting to include this note in the envelopes of cash we give to people. "G’day. Please accept this gesture of support and goodwill in what must be an impossibly difficult time for you.... We know this won’t fix everything, or restore the important things, but we hope it will help you in some small way. We have made the best effort to try and ensure that this money goes to those most affected by the fires. If you believe there is someone in greater need, please pass it on with our blessings. The Motorcyclists of Australia"

03.01.2022 Howdy all. I have just spent an hour calling the 12 people on the list the mayor of Walcha gave us as being the people most affected by the fires. They are:... Carlos G Brian B John S Gary at Gingers Creek. Bill S Zane B Russell B Dave B Nick W Al H Alysoun L Joe N I got through to most of them. Three I left message for and one has a disconnected number. So we shall work on that. People cried. Even though the amount we gave each individual was not a lot, it still meant a lot to them. I'm also pretty sure one bloke thought I was scamming him. It was not possible to hand these people cash. Most of them are not even in Walcha or Yarrowich and are staying with relatives. So Andy and I figured if we get bank cheques made in their name, the Commonwealth bank will keep them for three months and they can come and get them as they please. It's not what we wanted to do, but it's what we had to do because there was no other alternative. So the break-up was as follows. If the maths is wrong, blame Andy. I can't even do 7 times 8. Each family gets $1850 Gingers Creek gets $2081 Mailing charges - we kept $300 Over the next week I shall be sorting the auction goodies and ensuring each bidder gets what they bid for. I apologise for the delay, but it's kind of a one-man show here. So I beg your indulgence. Boris

03.01.2022 No kidding, Boris and I were just floored with the generosity and support from you guys. Those who donated, those who came on the ride spending money in town....some travelling huge distances. Aside from anything else, we got to spend the weekend with some first class people. We are humbled. The bank account, currently standing at over $22k, will be closed tomorrow morning (Tuesday). Sue and I shall get the bank cheques done and the recipients will be notified.... Anyone wishing to add to the total can do so today (Monday) only. WALCHA FIRE RUN BSB 062-699 ACC 10057542 Andy
