25.01.2022 From revolution to revolutionaries . . . One of my favs is Germaine de Stael. I've read many books about her, a good one is J. Christopher Herold's book, Mistress to an Age. A life of Madame de Stael part of the Grove Great Lives series. Her father was Jaques Necker, the finance minister Louis VXI sacked, that bought Parisians out on to the streets to protest...another spark for the French Revolution.

23.01.2022 Revolutionary stories: On 12 July the King sacked the popular Jaques Necker as his chancellor, replacing him with the authoritarian baron de Breteuil. Almost immediately ‘the people’ formed militias and started equipping themselves with guns and pikes for street fighting. They marched to Versailles to demand the reinstatement of Necker.

20.01.2022 T'is the night before the revolt. Little did anyone know that this is what would happen the next day: On the 14th July the mob looted the museum on Place Louis XV and didn’t find much. They then looted the Invalides garrison where they seized over 30,000 muskets... Later on in the day of 14 July the governor of the Bastille, the marquis de Launay ordered his men to fire and killed 200 of the insurgents. This was the beginning of the end of the monarchy and the start of a 'new' France. You can walk around Paris today and 'see' where Louis XVI lived, walked and died if you take advantage of our 2 for 1 offer using the code Bastille. Better than losing your head.

18.01.2022 Revolution - that's what. It wasn't instant, but big changes did happen almost instantly. In August, just a few weeks after the storming of the Bastille, the National Assembly abolished feudalism and adopted the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen as its constitution. This was inspired by the American Declaration of Independence and contained the iconic statement: Men are born free and remain free and equal in rights. An interesting statement to ponder as the Black Lives Matter campaign in the USA has the potential to shift US society.

10.01.2022 Revolutionary women. Women of the Parisian working classes were, for the first time, in French and even European history, a powerful and influential force for radical change. They demanded legal equality in marriage; educational opportunities for girls, including vocational training; public instruction, licensing, and support for midwives; guarantees for women's rights to employment; and an end to the exclusion of women from certain professions. When you take your armchair walks around Central Paris, remember them...Use the code Bastille to secure your 2 for 1 special price for the book.

09.01.2022 Revolutionary story: 'It would be better off for all if wages were lowered', said Reveillon, a wall-paper maker from the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, in April 1789. This comment sparked a riot that troops were mobilised to stop via a fusillade of fire that would change the world forever. Walk along the Faubourg Saint-Antoine in one of the walks covered in the book 5 self-guided walks around Central Paris. Two for one special offer till the end of July. https://walksaroundcentralparis.com/

08.01.2022 When Louis XVI asked a French duke if the storming of Bastille was a revolt on the evening of July 14 1789, the duke replied by saying, "No, sire. It is a revolution." 07.01.2022 Later on in the day of 14 July the governor of the Bastille, the marquis de Launay, ordered his men to fire and killed 200 of the insurgents. When Louis XVI heard about the storming of the Bastille he asked one of his chief advisers if this was another revolt, ‘No, sire, the adviser is said to have replied straight away, It’s a revolution.’ #Pariswalks #Paris #Bastille #frenchrevolution #

04.01.2022 On the 17th June the delegates of the Third Estate the commoners declared that they alone constituted the parliament, or National Assembly of the French people. This was a direct challenge not only to the First and Second Estates (the nobility and the clergy) and also the King.

03.01.2022 Just what I feel like..a weekend in a Paris Palace. Alas not to be, but we can dream...https://www.francetoday.com///elevation-to-palace-status/
