18.01.2022 Veteran's Golf Report FRIDAY THE 13TH NOT UNLUCKY FOR SOME Black Friday proved to be chook Friday for Don Stevenson when he carded a magnificent score of 32 points to grab the frozen fowl for Carmel Ann. Scoring a creditable 28 points Col Cruickshank collected the runners up trophy with the ball rundown going to Tiger Cleal and brother Cracker Cleal both having broken calculators to score 26 points and they were followed by Macca McDonald, Pommy O’Brien and Hatchie Williams... all on 25 points and the last ball was collected by Lex Roberts on 24 points. Tiger Cleal put on a putting display for his co-players by 1 putting 10 of the 12 greens and 2 putting those two to return 14 putts for the round. If memory serves the writer correct Tiger has bettered this effort once before by recording 13 putts. Nearest the Pins went to Donald Stevenson on the 3rd, Col Cruickshank the 5th and Jiver Phillips the 9th. Not getting amongst the trophies but enjoying a birthday beer with the boys after golf was John Winx Hay. Same time next week to do it all again. Dave Coulton See more

14.01.2022 Men's Golf Report Dave Coulton is getting back to the form which saw him play off a single figure handicap. With a blistering 40 points on Sunday he was the clear winner to receive the WesTrac sponsored Individual Stableford prize. The runner-up was Geoff Hague on 38, and the ball run-down went to Tiger Clear with 37, Wade Turner with 36 and Dave Smith on 35, who is also starting to find some form. Warwick Storm made the trip all the way from ‘East Gravesend’ but couldn’t ent...ice any of the other Gravo boys to travel. Nearest the pins were won by Geoff Hague on the third, Wade Turner on the fifth and the ninth green remained elusive all day. The RaboBank sponsored mystery ball went to Lex Roberts. The course is magnificent at the moment after recent rains and the greens are getting back to their best. Next week’s game is the Dave Rose Memorial Inter-town Competition to be played in Bingara. Names are to be given to either of the Smith brothers Dave or Shark. With Warialda having a slight lead and knowing that Bingara are hard to beat on their home track all is set up for a very close finish this year. Another excuse for playing golf is that drinking beer and golfing is just fun. Contributed by Thomas Kilner

10.01.2022 Men's Golf Report VICE CAPTAIN LEADS TEAM TO VICTORY On Sunday the Captain versus Vice Captain golf challenge was played in warm conditions, Captain Shark was absent and inspirational vice-captain John McDonald led his team to a 99 to 110 net stroke victory. Each side consisted of 7 players with the best being Ben Kennedy with a net 63, this also gave Ben the Monthly Mug and the last available space in the monthly mug winners playoff. Ben was also Warialda’s best in Bingara t...he week before, his efforts losing 3 strokes off his handicap. Looks like more stroke deductions are likely. The next best was Rodney Ireland with a very good 74 net/ 75 off the stick. Clem Gordon played solidly and carded a net 68 to be the first of the ball run down recipients, next were Lionel Cleal, Mathew Williams and Dave Smith all on 70. The mystery pill went to Rhys Aleckson. The nearest the pins were won by Wade Turner on the third, Geoff Phillips on the fifth and Troy Gillespie on the ninth. This coming Sunday is an individual stableford, the course is in great order and its good to see Ben Kennedy doing so well being a new player, nice to see Josh Leyton having a bat as well, we need more golfers and all will be made welcome so please bring your mates. 06.01.2022 Veteran's Golf Report HOT DAY AND HOT SCORES ON FRIDAY A goodly field showed up in fairly warm conditions last Friday with some hot scores being recorded as well. None were better than Jiver Phillips who, playing off a 13 handicap, returned a score of 32 points and forwent the chook and took the 3 Pink balls for his win. Then we came to the runners-up trophy and this took the form of a countback to decide the recipient as there were three golfers finished on 28 points. A...fter an extensive session of multiplication, division, subtraction and finally addition, the prize went to our elder statesman of the course in Hatchie Williams. Leading in the ball rundown was a new member of the club and a new addition to Gineroi Road in the person of Ian Hampson (welcome to Warialda Ian, Narelle, and Jay), along with Alan Campbell both on 28 points. They were followed by Dave Coulton and Bob Tremain (25 points) with the last ball also requiring a countback after two players returned well calculated scores of 24 points and again Dave had to multiply, divide, subtract and add up to reach a decision and this went went to Cracker Cleal with Pommy O’Brien missing out. The Putting competition ball went the way of Hatchie Williams with 19. Tiger had a quiet day on the course this week. Nearest the Pins went to Lionel Cleal on the 3rd, Tiger Cleal (only decent shot of the day he said) the 5th and Dave Coulton the 9th. This coming Friday (27th) being the last Friday of the month we will be playing a 4BBB Stableford event with a draw for partners so it would be appreciated if players could turn up a little earlier or let us know you are coming, to enable the draw to be done in time for 3:00p.m. tee-off.
