22.01.2022 A post I am sharing from Michelle Birchall. Well worth thinking about. The next added 6 weeks are gonna be the challenging . 10...0 people in the first lockdown committed suicide in the first week alone. That was only in Victoria too. The mental health issues related to lockdown and the pandemic are especially hard for people with depression. The wonderful charity MIND have a 24 hour helpline: 1300 554 660 Please could any two of my Facebook friends just copy and repost to share the helpline far and wide. Just two. Any two. Say done. P.S Youre not alone. We are friends for a reason. I have your back, you have mine. We can do this. Its not weak to ask for help. Just PM me please XX STAY SAFE AND POSITIVE everyone !! See more

The BellSouth 100 certainly did it's job there. Now it's over to Green Valley feed to take them through to maturity. Started on starter/grower the have now graduated to premium. See more

17.01.2022 I was asked some time ago about cleaning incubators. Here is what I do but there are many ways of doing so. 1st I will use the bath tub as incubators are quite sizable. It allows you to emerse the incubators. Only do the bottom in this manner. As pictured I use a fairly strong cleaner. Quite warm water with either a chux cloth or a dish scrubbing brush. This is all about getting rid of any residue. 2nd make sure you rinse away any cleaning agent. Allow to dry. ... 3rd cleaning the top half because of the electrics should.be done carefully. Making sure you don't get to much moisture or use anything that may cause corrosion. The second photo shows a sanitizer that I use which is from our friends at Allfarm. There are others and F10 is highly regarded. These products can either be wiped on or may be sprayed on a fine mist. Allow to dry before closing up. 4th You will see the picture of kitchen non slip which is put on the hatching surface when turning stops. Being quite open in its weave it allows air and moisture to pass through while catching alit of the muck from hatching and the poop chicks will pass. This can then be removed after hatching and washed for next time. As I stated this is how I do it and there will be many other options. We would love to hear anyone else's ideas.

14.01.2022 Hi everyone, tonight is the night. We will be drawing the winning tickets at 8pm tonight live to this page. Once again we thank Vic Kemp for his generous donation of one of his masterfully built pens. Also Bellsouth for the 2 to fourth prizes. A little hiccup in our plans. We have shuffled your names for ticket numbers which are now allocated. You have been so generous with your support Katelyn can't get the list to load at this stage. We will continue to try but if you want... your numbers drop us a line and we will send them direct to you. As the excitement builds on behalf of the committee and members of Warragul Poultry Club a huge thank you for your support. This has been a year like no other but we hope the things we have done on the page has helped in some way to get you through. On a side note the results for the egg show have just been emailed through. We will post these on Monday night as we don't want to cripple you with information and excitement. See more

09.01.2022 Gastroenteritis related to back yard chickens Status: Active Date issued: 26 June 2020... Issued by: Professor Brett Sutton, Chief Health Officer, Victoria Issued to: Health professionals and consumers Key messages The department is investigating 9 cases of gastroenteritis caused by the bacterium Salmonella Enteritidis. These cases became sick between late April to the end of May. Salmonella Enteritidis is not usually found in Australia and typically acquired overseas. However, the recent cases acquired their infections locally. Symptoms of the illness include diarrhoea, fever, headache, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting. It can be a serious infection especially in the young, the elderly and those with medical conditions which weaken their immune system. Hospitalisation may be required in some cases. Investigations so far have not identified any common source, but the majority of cases have had contact with, or consumed eggs from backyard chickens. Chickens can make great pets, but it is important to wash hands after handling them and after collecting their eggs. If you have back yard chickens, it is important to learn how to look after them properly and also how to protect yourself and your family from becoming sick. Purchase vaccinated back yard chickens from a reliable commercial source. See the Better Health Channel website for further information. Salmonella can be transmitted to humans through the consumption of food containing raw eggs such as homemade mayonnaise and uncooked cake batter. Eggs should be thoroughly cooked until they are hot all the way through, especially when serving to, infants, the elderly and anyone with a medical condition which impairs the immune system. The Department of Health and Human Services is following up all notified cases of Salmonella Enteritidis and working closely with Agriculture Victoria and the Chief Veterinary Officer to manage the infection in these chickens. 09.01.2022 Won't affect alot of our members but a heads up for those that it applies to. Nominations for the board have now closed and voting slips should arrive in due course. If you wish to vote, not sure who you should vote for. Contact our committee and we will endeavour to help.

09.01.2022 For the next 30 days (from 7 August), all poultry keepers - even those with just two or three chickens or birds are required by law to keep their birds housed... in the Golden Plains Shire Council. Where possible, move birds into a suitable building, like a shed or outbuilding adapted to house them, or a new temporary structure. Put netting over openings to stop wild birds getting in. If you cannot keep your birds housed, you must take other steps to separate your poultry and their food and drink away from wild birds. For more information go to https://go.vic.gov.au/dy7UlG See more

07.01.2022 I have had a few enquiries about our sale that would have been next Sunday. This is cancelled because of Covid. We are watching closely and when we get back to being able to have a gathering of 200 we will recommence our sales. Unfortunately this seems a way of but we remain ready. 07.01.2022 We are receiving a phenomenal amount of emails at the moment - over 100 a day, excluding texts and calls. We are trying to answer as many as we can. A lot ...of them are for eggs. We do not sell eggs. We currently only on have our breeding stock and some youngsters we are growing out. We are hoping to have the most breeds available in the Spring. We are having difficulty flying birds over to the West as they need to go on a direct flight and there are fewer flights. We have thought about driving trip over but would take 10 days and would cost around $4k for fuel, accomodation etc excluding someones wages. Our van and trailer would only be able to accommodate 50 birds maximum. So an expensive exercise. Anyway we are considering it in the Spring before it gets too hot. We will see what the interest is like. The best contact number is 0417984739 after 7pm.
