18.01.2022 This agreement is good news for WA pork producers and something that WAPPA and others in the industry have been promoting for some time. Thanks to the Australian and Singapore governments and our DPIRD representatives that have advocated on behalf of WA industry at a national level. The agreement may soften the blow in the event of an ASF outbreak in Australia.

16.01.2022 Large parts of southern WA, including Perth, woke to smoke trapped by a low inversion and mild winds overnight. This means smoke becomes trapped by the cool air... and is tending to hang about where it would normally lift and blow away. The smoke is from a combination of prescribed mitigation burns by Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia and a number of private property burns across the region. We know the smoke is affecting many residents across WA. In a State that is as bushfire prone as WA, these mitigation activities conducted by the Parks and Wildlife Service and private property owners are essential in reducing the risk that extreme bushfires pose to our communities. As we have seen this past summer, bushfires can be devastating, so doing all we can to prevent or lessen their impact is an important part of keeping our State safe. The smoke is expected to clear by this afternoon. For the latest information visit www.emergency.wa.gov.au Here are a few important things for property owners to be aware of before you conduct a private burn: Always contact your local government first. Many Shires are still in restricted burning periods and require permits to burn. Always register your burn with our Communications Centre (COMCEN) by calling 08 9395 9209. Always check the weather conditions BEFORE lighting your burn. Find local weather on www.bom.gov.au and Fire Danger Ratings on www.emergency.wa.gov.au Your burn is your responsibility. Never leave it unattended and make sure it is fully extinguished. Call 000 immediately for escaped burns. If you see smoke and are concerned, check www.emergency.wa.gov.au - if a smoke alert or burn isn’t listed and you suspect it may be a bushfire, call 000 to report it.
