25.01.2022 Club Dubbo 2020 Annual Presentation Day The West Dubbo Women’s bowling calendar came to a climax last night, with the staging of the President’s Pairs and last Sunday of Presentation Day. A great night & day was had with 50 bowlers attending. There was bowls Sunday morning, and the annual event last night. Both events had sumptuous meals, thanks to Maree in the bistro! The club’s board members were on hand to present the trophies and prize-money to the winners and runner...s-up of the championships held throughout 2020. As well as the championship winners, there were several other major awards presented that carried much prestige within the club. 25.01.2022 West Dubbo Bowls’ News Thursday 5th November Ladies’ Club Championships Kelly Dart, Helen Davis, Fay Holmes and Heather Purcell are the 2020 Ladies Fours Champions. In an action-packed final last Sunday, they edged out June Usher, Deb Brown, Ros Gilholme and Judy Cassidy, picking up three shots on the last end to win 15 11. 25.01.2022 West Dubbo Bowls’ News Thursday 24th September Ladies’ Club Championships In last week’s Minor Singles’ Championship matches, Gai Morrison 25 def Pam Dawson 14 in a quarter-final, but could not maintain that form in Saturday’s semi-final, going down to Laura Walters 25 to 19. Last Sunday’s rain has delayed the other semi-final between Kelly Dart and Hela Bryan, and this will now be played on Saturday at 1.00pm. The 2010 Ladies Club Triples’ Championship begins this Sunday, ...with the following matches scheduled for 10.30am: D Brown, Y Sampson, D Morrow v P Dawson, B Goss, M Rich; K Dart, H Purcell, P Kessey v C Kitcher, A Findlay, I Jeffries; J Ball, J Usher, J Cassidy v S Monie, R Yearby, N Phillips. Social Bowls John Mackenzie and Roy Frost took out last Wednesday’s open social bowls’ competition. Dave ‘Killer’ Kilsby, Neville Kitcher and Graham Ross were second, and Aileen Beecroft, Hela Bryan and Bev Goss were third. Hela Bryan also won the Lucky Draw prize. John Mackenzie was at it again on Friday morning, teaming this time with Barrie Sigsworth to win the chocolates. Dave Kilsby and Col Hume were runners-up. Roger Braintree was successful in winning the Lucky Draw. In the return of ‘Sizzling Saturdays’ last weekend, Grant Madsen and Phil Morrow took home the big purse, defeating John Fardell and Rick See on a countback. Bev Goss and Mick ‘Mellow’ Smith salvaged something on the day, taking home the best second round card. Open competition is on again this Saturday, and names need to be in to Anthony by 11.30am. .Club Scene On the Sunday of the long weekend (4th October), Club Dubbo is putting on a new one-day tournament; a versatile triples event. There will be $2200 in prize-money, with four games of bowls on the day. Each player plays a singles’ game, two pairs’ games and a triples’ game to finish. At $20 per player, the event is open to men’s, ladies’ and mixed teams, and lunch is included. Players can nominate in teams or as a single entry, and the day is open to Club Dubbo members and bowlers in the Orana geographical region, which includes Cobar, Mudgee, Coonabarabran, Gilgandra, Narromine, Coonamble, Warren, Wellington, and of course, Dubbo (COVID-19 regulations apply). 24.01.2022 West Dubbo Bowls’ News Thursday 27th August Ladies’ Club Championships In a Major Pairs’ semi-final last Saturday, Heather Purcell and Judy Cassidy outlasted Laura Walters and Leanne Furney, 18 13. Severe weather delayed play in the Minor Pairs’ Championship last weekend. In rescheduled matches, Pam Dawson and Gai Morrison def. Aileen Beecroft and Hela Bryan:25-11 played yesterday, and Kelly Dart and Jess Ball will play Anne Findlay and Ivy Jeffries this Saturday morning ...at 9.45. A decision on the final will be determined after Saturday’s semi-final. Minor Singles’ Championship nominations close this Saturday, with first round matches scheduled to begin on Saturday 5th September. 2010 Ladies Club Triples’ Championship nominations have now been listed on the noticeboard. Social Bowls Sue McCauley, Gai Morrison and Judy Cassidy won last Wednesday’s open social bowls’ competition from Aileen Beecroft, Pam Dawson and Marg Rich. Third spot went to Helen Davis and Penny Kessey. Penny’s day was further enhanced when she took home the Lucky Draw prize. On Friday morning, a hardy group braved the cold conditions. Warren Brown and Graham Ross saw off the opposition to win from Dave Kilsby and John Davis. Neville Kitcher had some consolation for his morning’s efforts, winning the Lucky Draw worth $32. Club Scene A $1000 members-only 3-bowls pairs’ tournament, replacing the Sainsbury Gold Cup Pairs event, will be held on Saturday, September 12. Open to both men and ladies, there will be three games of 8-ends each, with the top 4 teams playing off for the major prize-money. Beginning at 12.30, entry is just $10 per player and dress is casual. The 2 remaining tournaments scheduled for 2020, the Ladies’ Open Pairs in October, and the Henry Gordon Memorial Day in November, are still going ahead at this stage. Decisions on the running of these tournaments will be determined by the directions of NSW Government Health, and Bowls NSW and Women’s Bowls NSW recommendations. Gai has moved into the semi-final against Laura Walters which will be played this Saturday at 10-30am,Marker Heather Purcell. The other semi-final between Hela Bryan and Kelly Dart will be played on Sunday at 10-30am.

21.01.2022 Club Dubbo’s first Versatile Triples Tournament went off with a bang on Sunday, with over 40 bowlers gracing the greens on a beautiful spring day. The tourname...nt consisted of 7 games of singles, pairs and triples, where all players engaged in each discipline and against different opposition. In a fantastic win for the ages, the ladies’ team of Rhonda Yearby, Kath Ashby and Nancy Phillips, with a combined age of 218 years, again showcased that in this great game of lawn bowls that anything is possible. They outstayed all opposition to win the event with 5 wins and a margin 15 shot and 37 ends, surviving on a very close countback on ends. Club Dubbo bowls’ manager, Anthony Brown, did a great job in organizing the day. He was ably assisted in his role by the Club Dubbo staff, which included the caterers, bar and green staff, and Ladies’ President, Ros Gilholme, who did marvelous scoring job on the master board. All players assisted in compliance with the current COVID-19 restrictions at the club, and a great day was had by all. It is planned to stage more of these events in the near future at Club Dubbo. The sides’ two captains,Ros ( East) and Judy ( West) have been hard at it preparing their squads in the quest for the perpetual trophy a highly prized item of the club’s trophy cabinet. There will be a Christmas-themed dress code, and names need to be in with Anthony by 6.00pm Saturday.

In a game that started close after 9 ends, scores were 7 all. Then Gai & Pam won the next 5 ends, picking up 16 shots to win the Championship!

This prestigious event, which will attract over 100 junior bowlers, as well as parents, officials and supporters, is great news for the club, the city of Dubbo, and bowls in the country area. 12.01.2022 West Dubbo Bowls’ News Thursday 22nd October Ladies’ Club Championships In last Saturday’s semi-final of the 2020 Ladies Club Triples’ Championship, Kathy Edwards, Deb Brown and Deb Morrow 27 defeated Di Hildebrandt, June Madden and Mary Ney 12. The final of this prestigious championship between Deb Morrow’s team and Gai Morrison, Sue Clark and Tracey Silk will be announced at a later date.... The Minor Singles’ final between Trangie’s Laura Walters and Tomingley’s Kelly Dart will be held this Sunday commencing at 10.30am. Ladies’ Vice-President, Judy Cassidy, will officiate this match between two of the club’s rising stars. The Fours Championship semi-finals will resume on Saturday, 31st October, with the final on Sunday November 1. The nomination sheets for the Mixed Fours and Minor/Major Pairs Championships are now on the club noticeboard. Both of these events will commence in November. Social Bowls John MacKenzie, Frank Bartlett and Warren Brown were worthy winners of last Wednesday morning’s social competition. They defeated a strong field, with the pairs’ combination of Tony Leonard and Graham Ross coming home in second place. Third money was taken out by June Madden, Helen Davis and Kath Ashby. There were that many players a mystery draw was held, and that was won by Bob Bates and Ray Strawhan. John Davis could not be denied, and he again won the Lucky Draw, this time worth $68. On Friday, Wayne Middleton, Ray Strawhan and Barrie Sigsworth were to the fore, accounting for visitor Hugh Mann, Buck Millgate and Lloyd Peirce. Dick Jeffries took home the Lucky Draw money. With the weather starting to warm up, insightful Club Dubbo bowls’ manager, Anthony Brown, will be announcing earlier starting times for Wednesday and Friday morning bowls in the very near future. Wednesday Twilight Bowls is on during Daylight Saving, and each Wednesday single entries will be taken up until 5.30, with matches to begin at 6.00pm. There will be two games of 9 ends each, with a $10 entry fee and cash prize-money and a lucky draw also to be won. Twilight bowls is open to men, ladies and new bowlers. Junior bowls training has resumed on Thursday afternoons. 11.01.2022 On the Sunday of the long weekend (4th October), Club Dubbo is putting on a new one-day tournament; a versatile triples event. There will be $2200 in prize-money, with four games of bowls on the day. Each player plays a singles’ game, two pairs’ games and a triples’ game to finish. At $20 per player, the event is open to men’s, ladies’ and mixed teams, and lunch is included. Players can nominate in teams or as a single entry, and the day is open to Club Dubbo members and bowlers in the local area (COVID-19 regulations apply). The event is limited to the first 20 teams entered.

08.01.2022 Our 2020 Bowls Presentation will be somewhat different this year, it will be held on Sunday 6th December, following a morning of social bowls, Instead of our traditional Saturday night function! A Bonus this year, the club has decided to put on $800 prizemoney for the bowls morning which will start at 9.30am, followed by a luncheon and then presentations to the year’s champion bowlers. Names for bowls need to be in by 6.00pm on the Saturday before, and lunch tickets can be purchased at the bar for $15 per head need to be purchase by Friday 4th December!

08.01.2022 Another fantastic ending to our bowls season was held last Sunday in the East v West Challenge! Congratulation to the West team lead by their captains (Judy Cassidy & Glenn Morrison), making it back to back titles: Unfortunately for East’s captains Bruce Baker, & Ros Gilholme there noggin will be on display for next 12 months in the famous trophy’s ! The challenge, and it’s much sought after trophy, pits club members from both sides of the Macquarie River against each o...ther. Beginning in 2009, the competition has been dominated by the Easties, who won up till 2 years ago won 8 of the previous 11 challenges. The final scores been 170-151, west only winning 3 rinks out of 7, but the 3 rink wins all by big margin! The game was close early, but the new champions proved steadier when it mattered. 2010 Ladies Club Triples’ Championship nominations closes this Sunday at 10-30am, draw will be published ,1st round is scheduled for Sunday 27th Sept. ... Helen Davis and Kath Ashby won last Wednesday’s open social bowls’ competition. John Mackenzie and Graham ‘Albert’ Ross were second, and Bev Goss, Nev Kitcher and Warren Brown came home in third spot. Kath Ashby was really beaming when she added the Lucky Draw money to her prize list. On Friday morning, Dave Kilsby made a welcome return to the greens, combining with Barrie Sigsworth to claim first prize ahead of Neville Kitcher and Dick Jeffries. This Saturday marks a return of the ‘Sizzling Saturday’ afternoon social competitions that proved so popular earlier in the year. Open to men and women, single entries are $10, with a paddle-pop stick draw prior to play and cash prizes going to the winners. Names need to be into Anthony by 11.30am. Coaching Club Dubbo offers free tuition (bowls supplied if needed) by accredited Bowls Australia coaches at any time and for all ages. 01.01.2022 Today saw our last Club Championship game of the year with the Minor Major Pairs final between Kelly Dart & Deb Morrow v Deb Brown & Ros Gilholme: The game was over 18 ends in the 3 bowl format. Dart, Morrow got the early jump leading 15- 4 at half way mark (9ends), it proved too hard for Brown and Gilholme to make a comeback, with Dart & Morrow winning 19-11. Dart & Morrow proved to be the team to beat in the championships knocking off some strong teams! For the runners up ( brown & Gilholme) played well in the fina,l but the champions were red hot today.
