05.01.2022 It’s not often a Junior AFL club in Sydney has its eye on the draft, well at least not with the level of anticipation Westbrook will have on the 2020 NAB AFL Draft where one of our very recent juniors is expected to be a 1st Round pick. While many of our long-term family’s and older playing group will be familiar with the name Braeden Campbell many of our new family’s and junior players might not be. This Wednesday night is the NAB AFL draft in which Braeden can be selected b...y any of the 18 AFL clubs although he will be available to the Swans via the bid matching process due to his alignment to the Swans Academy. Should Braeden, as expected be drafted, he will join some former famous Westbrook Juniors in doing so: Kieran Jack > Sydney Swans (2006 Rookie Draft) Brandon Jack > Sydney Swans (2013 Rookie Draft) Ely Smith > Brisbane Lions (2018 NAB AFL Draft) Braeden began his junior football with Westbrook in 2011 and played through until 2018 when he transferred to Pennant Hills Demons AFL Club as a 17yr old making his Premier Division debut. Across his time with Westbrook, Braeden played 125 games and amassed 160 career goals. Not bad for a player that would often have to miss rounds due to representative commitments. With an extensive individual honour roll and many personal achivements, Braeden also has a premiership to go with it. As you can see from the pictures above Braeden was a determined player with a gifted left foot kick. As a teammate, Braeden led from the front with his commitment, dedication and team first attitude. And while we know he will be onto bigger and better things, we’re sure that he will also have fond memories of his playing time with Westbrook and at Mike Kenny Oval. It wasn’t just Braeden leaving is mark with Westbrook, his Father Wade and Mother Michelle both spent time in and around the club helping on the committee and with coaching. A truly great Westbrook family. Whilst we will be watching with anticipation on Wednesday evening, we wish Braeden the best, and as a club we are all behind him and we will be closely following his journey.
