09.01.2022 Some new toys come in today to lift my spirits. The FA-18B will be built with those fantastic decals and the figures will be used in a future diorama. Happy Modelling.

03.01.2022 Hasegawa 1/72 EA-18G Growler with Ronin Decals 6Sqn Anniversary decals, and Wolfpack replacement cockpit and wings, and Air Graphics ACMI pod. Calling this one... done. A very enjoyable build with few if any issues beyond my own unforced errors. My only disappointment was a short shot tail hook which had to be poached from another Growler kit. Finishing the decaling was very straightforward. Like the decals for the undercarriage the ones provided for the ejection seats add a lot to the realism. Hoping we see more of these in the future given how prominent these markings are on the real thing. They look so much better than a dab of paint. A final coat of Future was applied to seal in the decals. With the blue areas gloss and the grey flat, I used a post it note to mask off the blue as these I went about achieving the contrast in surface finish. A good airbrush and low pressure also helped. In moving this across the finish line I discovered the kit part that holds the canopy up is not compatible with the Wolfpack replacement cockpit. It required a bit of a trim in order to get it to fit. I also scratched up the brace in the canopy that isn’t supplied in the kit. Be a nice aftermarket part if any of our cottage industry are interested. The kit, extras and especially the decals all came together resulting in a pretty good replication of the real thing. Rather happy with it and will add some colour to the cabinet. Now time to get on with the other 11 kits I have at various stages of construction. Cheers, AGW
