12.01.2022 *Change starts at home* Now more than ever, its so important that we make changes to our own lifestyles and in our own homes. This week we will be sharing tips on how you can make small and simple changes in the home. We would love for you to share your own tips as well! 1. Water Such a precious resource that as Australians we hear a lot about. During drought and bushfire seasons like we are currently experiencing, the importance of preserving our liquid gold is pa...ramount. Relying on tank water for the majority of our lives, we are well versed on the importance of saving water. Many of us know the obvious tips and tricks however sometimes we can get a little slack, especially when that shower feels awfully good and you just want 2 more minutes!!! So some handy tips are as follows: - Check all taps and toilets for leaks. A leaking tap can leak up to 15L a day! - Install water saving shower heads. Its said that a shower head can use between 6 and 45L per minute depending on the shower head. - Turn the water off when brushing your teeth/shaving. This can save you up to 6L. - Use a pool cover (I read the other day the average pool loses 35,000L+ a year to evaporation!!). - Put a timer in your shower. -Only use your washing machine and dishwasher for FULL loads and ensure you have water efficient machines. -Rinse fruit and veg in a bowl of water. - When watering (and no restrictions in place) ensure you do this at the coolest time of the day. The last thing you want is for those precious drops to quickly evaporate! Where possible use a watering can as a modest garden hose can use a staggering 1000L of water per hour. - Steam your veggies instead of boiling! Steaming uses less water and helps to preserve the nutrients. If you do boil, you can cool the water and use it later for watering your plants. -Invest in a rain water tank to collect those precious drops. Ensure your gutters and downpipes are free from leaves to obtain maximum collection. If you have any wonderful water saving tips, please let us know below! 08.01.2022 Its Smoothie Sunday! What Sunday traditions do you have in your house? For us we like to make pancakes and smoothies as a family! Its a great way to use up excess fruit and veg that might be getting a little soft and to avoid food waste! This morning we made a Mango, Berry & Chia Smoothie using the following ingredients: Mango Strawberries Chia Seeds... Milk Blend them together and you get a delicious smoothie that is a hit with the entire family! You can also swap out the milk for your preferred dairy free alternative. 05.01.2022 The prospect of self isolation can be daunting, so its important to add some healthy structure to your days! Ensure you are staying hydrated (with your reusable water bottle to easily track your intake), eat well and exercise! There are so many fabulous resources online for home workouts so why not incorporate some light exercise into your daily routine (provided youre not unwell of course!). If youve got kids at home, get them involved and make it fun for everyone! We would love to know your tips for keeping active and healthy during times of self isolation.
