17.01.2022 Loving the colour of this kinetic sand from Kmart Australia !! Kinetic sand is always a favourite in OT sessions or even with my little nieces/nephews that visit and it works on so many great skills: Fine Motor Skills by manipulating the sand and using the molds. Sensory input by decreasing sensitivity or providing input to tactile seekers. Play Skills, this tub would inspire so many different play scripts. Pretend play is so important as it helps to develop literacy... skills, story-telling, problem solving, planning, flexibility and social skills. Social Skills can be developed further by sharing the tub between two or three kids or as the adult try to change/extend the play, this works on turn-taking/sharing, negotiation, problem solving and flexibility. Its also a great motivating activity to work on extending attention and table-top activities. . . . 03.01.2022 Standardized assessments and curriculum are not always valid to each child. When we meet the child where they are at and meet their needs using their unique strengths, thats being valid. Strategies are not one size fits all. Sometimes we have to think outside the box.
