25.01.2022 I hope everyone is keeping as well and positive as possible during this time of flux and challenge. Weve just added a page to our website about COVID-19 implications for psychology appointments, which will be updated as things develop: https://www.wisdomhealth.com.au/covid-19 Rest assured that you will continue to have access to psychologists throughout this pandemic. Wisdom Health are still able to offer face-to-face individual sessions. However, you are also welcome to do... your sessions via telehealth (either via secure videochat or telephone) if you are self-isolating or are unwell. As always, get in touch with your psychologist if you have any questions or concerns. Take care, Rob Schtze

23.01.2022 Have an anxious child? Is your child always complaining of a tummy upset - but your doctor has confirmed it is nothing to worry about? Does your child have trouble concentrating? Is he or she reporting a lot of worries? Is fear getting in the way of activities or adventures they might enjoy! It is not always easy being a kid, and sometimes as a parent it can be really helpful to have some support. Often children dont even need to come in to the session and mum and dad can ge...t some tips on how to support their child or teen at home. But if you dont want to bring your child to counselling, we have a great Psychologist - Mr Morrison McQueen who is experienced with kids, teens and adults. Call us on 6161 3848 for an appointment.

18.01.2022 The #auspain2016 conference is wrapping up, Rob presented a workshop to Physios on working with clients and their fear of pain. He chaired a forum on psychological interventions for pain management. If you would like to hear Rob talk more on the science of pain dont forget to visit this link: https://m.soundcloud.com/720/managing-pain-with-mindfulness Rob is now back to his pain research and Yoga teaching (yes he is a yoga teacher too! A Senior Yoga teacher with Yoga Australia).

18.01.2022 Mindfulness & Pain New Research Shows Mindfulness is even more effective than we thought! This recent, comprehensive study is a systematic review and meta analysis using The Cochrane Library methodology. Basically it found that meditation & acceptance based treatments were effective for helping people with Chronic Pain. They had similar effects to the Gold Standard Cognitive Behavioural Therapies, with modest effects for pain intensity, quality of life, depression, anxiety & ...disability. However UNLIKE CBT the effects continued to improve once the treatment ended! At follow up there were moderate to large effects for anxiety, depression and most significantly disability (pain interference in daily activities). This shows that people are able to learn and practice the skill of paying attention and acting mindfully in a way that lets them live their lives more fully, even if they have continuing pain. Why is this relevant? Because many of our students come to yoga to manage their pain! If you want to know more about pain, yoga & mindfulness please be in touch! 6161 3848. For yoga teachers please find our event below -

09.01.2022 Are you seeking care for back pain or do you know someone who is? Low back pain is the number one cause of disability in Australia and costs more to treat than ...cancer and diabetes combined. Help us to improve care for people with back pain by spreading the word about this exciting clinical trial in Perth and Sydney. Were looking for adults with persistent back pain (3 months of pain or more). If youre keen to participate and meet our inclusion criteria, we will randomly assign you to receive either your normal care or an individualised rehabilitation program. This involves up to 7 sessions of free physiotherapy care over 12 weeks and a review 12 weeks later. These sessions teach you new ways to move and think about pain. We need to find out what really works when it comes to dealing with back pain. Please help us by sharing this post on your timeline or tagging friends who may want to participate. 04.01.2022 If youve been referred to a Psychologist to help you manage chronic pain, you might be confused, or even insulted. People I talk to often think being referred to a Psychologist means others are really saying, the pain is all in your head. This is a horrible thought to have when youre already feeling isolated, confused, worried, depressed, angry, or one of the litany of other emotions that commonly occur when pain doesnt go away. Actually, all pain is a product of our bra...ins (which processes a bunch of information from around the body/brain/nervous system). But that doesnt mean it doesnt hurt or that it isnt real. Pain is painful. This article is a nice overview of where Psychologists fit into the pain management picture, how they can often help reduce your pain, distress, and most importantly, your disability. That means helping you get back to living a rewarding life, even one where pain shows up from time to time. Follow some of the links in the article and let us know what you have found helpful while navigating the turbulent waters of living with chronic pain. Best, Rob
