24.01.2022 Beyond Q - the end of an era. Thank you Simon for enabling the community to meet in a comfortable, inclusive environment.

24.01.2022 Woden CIT Mr Steel warned that there would be trade-offs that the community was going to need to grapple with. Why?... Why do we have to choose between green space and a building that looks like it is 26 storeys in a 12 storey zone? Mr Steel said that a range of sites had been considered but this one offered the opportunity to redevelop the north-east of the Woden Town Centre and solve a problem that had bedevilled it for years what to do with the empty space where the police station had been. What problem? It is a perfect site for a multi-purpose indoor sports stadium because it is in the shade of the 18 and 26 storey Grand Central. The CIT would be perfect on the carpark (with underground parking) between the Hellenic Club and the bus interchange where we could have human scale, green spaces and sunshine. The option provided represents more ad hoc planning (like SPIRE) with no vision for where community facilities like an indoor sports stadium and an arts centre would be located so they can be connected with the CIT to create a livable urban hub for the surrounding communities. The built environment is a long-term asset for our community. Buildings, streets and public spaces last decades, if not generations. It is critical that all changes to the built environment are sustainable and make a positive contribution to the way a place looks, how it functions and how long it lasts.

22.01.2022 The Woden Town Centre has 25 residential towers and around 10,000 people earmarked already. There are more areas zoned for towers around the town centre. We are pulling our weight with urban infill. We welcome development but are asking for a balance between homes, jobs, community facilities and sunny public spaces. Our Recreation Precinct was demolished (with the pool and ice rink set to be the next to go) and we have no cultural facility. We have gone backwards. Why do we h...ave to have towers around the central public space, the town square, when the City has place making not towers around Garema Place and City Walk. The overshadowing diminishes the attractiveness of the Town Square for business and a place where people want to be again and again. Double Standards. We have been raising the issue of the damage towers will do around the Town Square for years but no one is listening. See more

22.01.2022 Tree planting - great to see 845 trees planted in our area. I would like more trees around the sediment pond on Athllon Drive. Where would you like more trees? President Fiona Carrick

21.01.2022 There is no need to build SPIRE opposite the Garran Primary School. Building 3 is a large 1.2 hectare site that is in poor condition and not being used to its potential. We need to sort out the future of Building 3 before we make decisions in isolation that impact on the future.

21.01.2022 Please prioritise the hospital and renew it properly so it has the capacity needed to service south east NSW. Please be a good neighbour and build SPIRE on building 3 (1.2 hectares facing Yamba Drive) so the emergency is not opposite the Garran Primary School. Please do not block Hospital Road as it is the main access through the hospital for public transport. A master plan is needed to ensure efficiencies in the location of facilities and to ensure future expansion is catered for.

16.01.2022 I love your students work, their videos are also fantastic.

16.01.2022 Floriade at the Pearce shops. Thank you Minnie for being so enthusiastic about planting bulbs and annuals in the round concrete planter boxes. The flowers are going to look fantastic in spring. Fiona

15.01.2022 Our paths need to support our active lifestyles. The corridor between Woden and the City connects the south with jobs, higher education and sports located in the north. Many people do not like to ride next to cars travelling at 80km/h. The WVCC is advocating for a dedicated cycle commuter corrider through the centre of Yarra Glen and Adelaide Av to enable active lifestyles. Fiona Carrick... President WVCC See more

15.01.2022 Target at Cooleman Court to close. This is terrible news for our community. We can only hope that it opens up an opportunity for another great business. We are with you Weston Creek.

13.01.2022 Welcome back Woden Library, we missed you!

13.01.2022 Great article by Woden Business News. The article states that: - there is also going to be an increasing focus on using local. - the indications are that regardless of the measures put in place, people will be slow to reengage with the crowded daily commute to work. Along with staggered start and finish times, companies are investigating the option of urban hubs which will allow employees to take a shorter commute to a smaller less densely populated office rather than to a... centrally located heavily utilised office. It would be great to be able to work from Woden so many of us can walk or ride to the office rather than taking public transport to town.

13.01.2022 Hi everyone. Just letting you know that I have resigned as President of the WVCC and that Dr Jenny Stewart has been endorsed as the new President. Jenny will be in touch soon about the next public meeting which she is anticipating will be on 5 August 2020. Thanks for all your support over the years. Fiona

13.01.2022 Woden library - this cafe is open. There has got to be a solution to managing the people count from the cafe and the library. Come on ACT Government - give this cafe a fair go.

12.01.2022 Our centrally located off leash dog area (green in the oval) along the drains is zoned for high density residential (dark red in the Oval} so will be lost. It would be good to retain land around the Yarralumla Creek for open green amenity for the community and their dogs

12.01.2022 The height and scale of the proposed residential towers behind the police station has been significantly reduced. Our concerns were valid. Thank you to the Design Review Panel for thinking about good design outcomes for Woden. We really appreciate it. 'The new changes are in response to feedback from the National Capital Design Review Panel which also had concerns about height, overall bulk and scale, visual amenity, overshadowing, landscaping, interface to surrounding streets and open space, and a failure to respond to the Woden Town Centre Master Plan.' https://the-riotact.com/hindmarsh-revises-soaring-tw/421816

09.01.2022 The importance of our health services has been highlighted through the COVID-19 epidemic. Hopefully we can rethink the ad hoc planning taking place at the Canberra Hospital and develop a Master Plan that considers growing the hospital towards the Town Centre and public transport instead of towards the residents and primary school in Garran. Sadly there is no strategic thinking for this site! The article states:... 'Health consumer and disability advocates say they are disappointed the government will not reconsider the chosen site of the expansion, dubbed SPIRE, which they believe creates significant issues. The SPIRE project was announced weeks before the 2016 election, however the groups say consultation with them only began late last year'.

08.01.2022 Goodluck, I hope your business thrives. Isaacs needs this service. Is there a spot to plant some Floriade bulbs?

08.01.2022 Borrowdale House development - Woden Town Square (WTS) A 24 storey residential tower on the perimeter of the WTS will significantly overshadow the square in the afternoons and reduce livability of the space and the opportunities to create a great entertainment area. While we support development in the town centre, we want it to be done well, to think about how we attract people into the centre and support small business. There are around 25 residential towers earmarked alread...y so how do we build a great community in the centre. The renewal of Woden needs to be guided by a plan for our social, economic and environmental development. We can do better, including in Weston Creek and Molonglo! Why isn't it better? Is it neglect or vested interests? Get involved with the future of your community. Weston Creek Community Council Our Molonglo Valley https://www.canberratimes.com.au//borrowdale-house-in-wo/

05.01.2022 New bike connection - Heyson St and Derwent St. Great news

05.01.2022 Great article, it is time to draw a line in the sand and develop a master plan to guide the development of the hospital. The site for the new emergency building is in the wrong spot, we are growing the hospital towards the Garran Primary School with ambulance access from residential streets leading to further congestion. https://www.canberratimes.com.au//labor-has-had-decades-t/

04.01.2022 Cities round the world have been freeing space for people on foot and bikes in response to COVID and concerns with crowding on public transport For those that like to cycle 9.5km (Woden to the CIty) is very doable. We should build a cycle highway down the centre of the alignment to move the cyclists off the road (with 80km/h cars) and connect the suburbs with the city centre.

04.01.2022 Noooooo ... this is so sad. Thank you for all the good times.

02.01.2022 Pearce shops - painting the concrete flower beds different colours ready for the Floriade bulbs to be planted

02.01.2022 The lack of consultation is appalling but sadly not unusual. There was no consultation on the site for SPIRE which will lead to ambulances running down a residential street opposite a primary school. There is no consultation around what intensification could look like on the Yarra Glen corridor for light rail. We are also losing green spaces without public spaces being identified, most of the Atthlon Drive corridor around Yarralumla Creek was zoned for residential, part of Woden Town Park is no longer zoned for open green space, the green courtyards in the Town Centre were sold to the private sector for development and we have lost the pitch n putt.
