25.01.2022 Congratulations go to Nathan Egan Who was fishing 3 up out of Shellharbour last Sunday on his boat called Water Bandit. The team where trolling working an area between 600 and 1000 fathoms marking scattered bait when just after mid morning bang 4 rods went off, 2 dropping off and one broke the line, but luckily Nathan grabbed the last rod which stayed on, and after a 30 min battle the good size SBT was gaffed which was Nathans first ever an later tipped the scales to 59kg. Congrats Nathan, well done

24.01.2022 Congratulations to team Royale for the capture of this beauty Thresher shark which went 115.2kg on 15kg line, to take out the Central Zone Capture Prize Angler Daniel Anderson spent just over 5 an a half hours fighting this stubborn fish to capture his first Thresher ever and to earn him a New Wollongong gfc club record for 15kg line class

21.01.2022 The SBT run continues!! After 5 days of horrible weather and with the seas starting to settle down on Friday arvo, it was time to have another crack on Wild Bill. Skipper George, Tony an Greg headed out from port Kembla Harbour an headed south east, as we crossed the shelf line the bird life and scattered bait activity was looking very promising so 8 Lures where deployed in 400 fathoms and we kept heading east. By mid morning we where in about 1200 fathoms and when the long ...rigger cracked out the sound of a screeming reel was music to our ears, George saw the hole it left behind the lure when the fish took it and called it for a huge yellowfin, Tony was on strike as he had never caught a big tuna before, and we quickly put the gimbal belt an harness on him, but unfortunately this battle only lasted a few min. there was approx 400 meters of line out on 37kg tackle when another fish swam into the line an it was all over, very unlucky Tony, what a heartbreaking way to loose a fish... We continued zig zagging south between 800 an 1200 fathoms and things where looking very quiet when from no where chaos erupted with a 5 way hook up, I grabbed one of the 24kg out fits and George an Tony grabbed the 37kg out fits while we tried to clear the other rods that weren't hooked up, the other 2 fish shook off quickly as they where only sitting in the rod holders with very little pressure on the line.. After a 20 min battle George landed his fish first, 153cm which later went 66.8kg. Ten min later Greg landed his fish 151cm which later went 58kg. Now it was up to Tony to land his first ever barrel, this fish was stubborn an after another 15 min we almost had the wind on on the rod tip when the tuna changed direction an shook the lure out, bugger Tony wasn't having a good day at all. We bagged the fish on ice an cleaned the deck and as it was still early we kept trolling around in 1000 fathoms to try an get Tony a good tuna.. Another hour had passed and the shot gun lure got smacked, another solid hook up but this fish was no monster, but Tony was very happy to reel in his first ever albercore approx 7kg, and with that we turned the boat for home and kept trolling inwards until we hit the 200 fathom line when we called it a day . Another awesome day on board Wild Bill, well done guys See more

20.01.2022 This very nice Tiger Shark captured late afternoon by team Run A Muk on 24kg line tipped the scales to 380kg. A great capture that once boated and secure was heading straight for the Gantry, but fishing well north of Wollongong Harbour they had a long trip in, so unfortunately missed the tournament cut off time and the fish didn't count. A bit unlucky but at least it still counted for their club angler, an boat capture points..

15.01.2022 A chance to reflect on not only how good the weather was last week but also how good the fishing was.... Skipper Mitch Cronin an crew Craig Davis, Laqulan Rodgers on board Caveman, had an almost unbelievable day last Sunday when they to fell to the allure of big tuna fever.... The guys left out of Kiama harbour early and just after 7.00am had put out a full spread of favourite tuna lures just over the shelf as they headed East towards the 1000 fathom line in search of a f...ew SBT barrels. However on this trip one lure in particular would make the difference, the Trophy Hunter Lumo Profidgie, set as a long rigger or shotgun lure, these are proving to be an important arsenal on board all boats searching for big tuna.. As the guys crossed the 700 fathom line the long rigger got smacked hard by a big fish that almost broke the rigger , Laqulan took the strike an as 37kg line started smoking off the reel the guys where cheering for a huge tuna It was only 8.00 am and after about 5 minutes they realised they had hooked a Marlin and most likely a striped by the way it was performing. Not really interested in the Marlin which appeared to look small a few hundred meters away and hearing the calls on the radio of multiple big tuna hook ups near by on other boats, Laqulan pushed the drag to sunset as they weren't worried if the Marlin came off so they could get in on the tuna action.. After 10 min on sunset drag pressure { 20kgs} the Marlin came to the surface an did a hectic surface sideways jump display, that's when the guys called it for a blue Marlin approx 120 to 140 kg.. With only 150lb leader they backed off the drag a bit and continued to play the fish, but wanted it quickly so they could release it and get back to their tuna fishing. 20 min later when Craig took the leader an got the fish along side the boat , wow factor set in an couldn't believe the size of it and called for the gaffs as this was to be a special winter capture,,, later at Kiama harbour the guys from Kiama GFC weighed the blue which went a whopping 250.8kgs, congratulations to Angler Laqulan a pb , an the rest of the Caveman crew on a rare winter capture, well done and I'm sure you guys will get a tuna to bite next trip out. See more

14.01.2022 With great tuna reports coming in late last week keen game angler Aaron Gilmore had to have a crack . So on Saturday morning but with no crew on his boat Killing Time headed off kiama to try his luck with the bluefin. In 300 fathoms East off Kiama Canyons he set 4 lures out, 3 on 37kg tackle and 1on 24kg tackle and headed east planning to work the 1200 fathom line. not even an hour had passed, and when he went over the 850 fathom line all 4 rods went off. what can only be d...escribed as an epic situation he grabbed the rod that was loosing line the quickest and started doing battle with a big SBT, the 2 other rods where still tight on fish, luckily the 4th had dropped off. Aaron put out the Co ordinates on the radio and a good mate of his Shane Forester on his boat Stand Out heard the call so went over to check out the action as he wasn't far away, apon arrival Shane noticed Aaron was solo and offered a hand on board, so with the big yes he jumped on board an let his boat drift away as Shane was also out solo.. Shane went into action fighting a second fish, as well as gaffing Aaron's tuna which later went 116kg on 37kg line was a ripper and a new Pb for him. Shane landed the 2nd bluefin which went 95kg, and Aaron jumped back on the rod to release the other around the 80kg mark What a great effort, and with that the guys headed back in for an early rewarding day. Awesome fishing guys See more

11.01.2022 Congrats to team Undertaker for getting young Jayden Millauro hooked up to win both small fry categories and also taking out champion boat capture, it was a great day for you all.

09.01.2022 BEN ODonell and crew on board Reel Screamer from Jervis Bay gfc had a fantastic start to the Wollongong tournament, tagging a Frisky lil Mako only 20 min after start fishing. hopeing to raise a monster Mako but unfortunately the rest of the day only produced a lost fish nearly at the boat, an a few swimming around in the burly slick but not feeding. Better luck next year

08.01.2022 Congratulations to team Big Ed, taking out the major Shootout prize for the Wollongong gfc tournament with a ripper 310kg Mako caught on 37kg line. Billy an Eddie traveled down from Lake Maquarie to fish in their first ever tournament, and capture their first fish for the boat, just before lunch time a big fish took the bait and after a few spectacular cartwheels they nearly got spooled on 37kg line when the Mako went all the way to the bottom, and kept heading East, just over an hour later they had it gaffed an tail roped boat side , This fish also won them heaviest shark, an champion senior male angler for the tourney keep the good luck with you and hook em good.. More pics an results to be posted soon

08.01.2022 Bluefin tuna fever is in town with fish been caught well inside the 1000 fathom line its no wonder fishos have been super keen to get amongst the action.. Keen fishos Jessy, Dan and Con fishing on the Dingo had a 4 way hook up all on 37kg tackle while trolling in 800 fathoms off Kiama, the trio each only took just over 30 min to land there first ever blue fin tuna, all where over 100kg with Con's weighing the biggest at 125kg for a 182cm short length, talk about a barrel........ Other guys to catch an experience the thrill of first big tuna fishing last weekend was Brett n Steve. Congratulations it's a big moment in any fishos book... Many crews are now itching to get back out there an have a crack, but can I jus say please, please, please if a boat hooks up multiple fish and puts the Coordinates over the radio please respect the boat that is hooked up an fighting and KEEP YOUR DISTANCE at least 60 meters and if cubing try not to drive thru their burley trail... Enjoy your fishing an good luck See more

08.01.2022 Team SNIPER represented Botany Bay gfc, and had a good hook up on 6kg line to a healthy blue shark approx 120+ kg, the fish took alot of line and then came up high so they started backing down on it, in the distance they could see the shark on the surface an they had the gaffs ready, when from no where an Albertros flew into the line an got tangled, just as they where about to grab the bird the line parted... Bugger that shark would have won them champion boat capture.. Later in the day they had a few more hook ups and tagged a Tiger Shark and a Blue Shark, A good day on the water

06.01.2022 Team Royale, the 3 Dan's and Grant Hatherly had a very exciting weekend representing Wollongong gfc at the Sydney Mako tournament. After an early start on Saturday morning the lads had a very long day on the drift with only one bait for the day that got mouthed and then spat out.. Sunday a change of plan starting a burly trail a bit further north an right on the shelf where a big stack of slimie mackerel where showing on the sounder, things had to get better for team Royale. ...Just after mid morning a blue shark approx 60 kg took a bait an after a short fight on 15kg line Daniel Barbara tagged n released his first shark for the day. Just after lunch an another bait was taken and Daniel Barbara took the strike and after 15 min a nice Mako approx 70kg was tagged n released. 40 min later another hook up to the same Daniel and after 20 min another nice Mako approx 80kg was tagged n released,, this was starting to be a very good day for the team. Another hour passed and bang Daniel was on again to a bigger Mako with another fish in burly trail as well, after a solid fight the guys traced and gaffed a very healthy Mako which looked approx 150 to 160 kgs as no big Makos had been recorded in the capture section of the tournament at that stage. The other Mako that was still sniffing around and Grant Hatherly took the strike, it to looked a very similar size to the nice one they bloated and after an hour an a half battle at 5.05pm they decided to tag this particular Mako. What an exciting end to the days fishing, but it wasn't completely over as the guys had to be back in by 7.00pm to their home port to get the Mako weighed. And With very good sea conditions it was an easy run in, and they made it back to Wollongong Harbour by 6.10pm. It was now time to weigh the Mako but another boat fishing the tournament off Sydney had just weighed the current heaviest Mako that was 155.8 kg.. It was the one to beat... As the Mako was been winched out of the boat geustimates where been made an it was going to be close. The sling was put up on an the scales where zero'd,, it was now time to weigh the Mako, wow how close was that weighing a neat 157.kg team Royal won the heaviest Mako by 1.2 kg.. well done and congrats to Team Royale which also was 2nd place in the tag n release section of the tournament on a count back with 4 sharks. Incedently the 157kg female Mako had a short length of 249.cm an had an over all length of 283cm. Keep up the good fishing team Royal , well done See more
