22.01.2022 Poverty puts pressure on people - it's constant and strong. If the pressure builds up, people can be pushed into homelessness. We can relieve pressure by creati...ng affordable housing and helping people get decent jobs. And we can help by strengthening our social welfare system. We can never go back to $40 a day. #APW2020 #EverybodysHome Anti-Poverty Week See more
21.01.2022 Language matters. Rape is not non-consensual sex, it’s assault, and an act of violence. When we shy away from naming the behaviours of perpetrators as violence..., assault, and abuse we allow offenders to control the narrative. The impact of this is a minimising the seriousness of the crime and even implying that victim/survivors are somehow a passive participant in the assault. You can learn more in the article "There's no such thing as non-consensual sex' https://medium.com//theres-no-such-thing-as-non-consensual #TerminologyTuesday #SVAM2020 #startbybelievingaustralia
20.01.2022 Greetings, Destroyers! One of our favourite Australian feminist groups working hard to end domestic violence related deaths is the Red Rose Foundation. Their la...test success is the establishment of the Australian Institute for Strangulation Prevention, to provide specialist non-lethal strangulation intervention and prevention training and resources for professionals working with domestic violence and sexual assault intimate partner strangulation. The Red Rose Foundation is also responsible for red park benches appearing across the country, to raise awareness of DV and encourage us all to take a stand against it. https://www.redrosefoundation.com.au Now they’re in the running for a share of $200,000 from My Giving Circle, which is donating funds to the top 130 charities as voted by the public. Such funding would be invaluable in helping The Red Rose Foundation continue and expand their important work. Destroyers, will you vote for The Red Rose Foundation? Don’t forget to let us know you’ve done it and why! 19.01.2022 Betty Taylor, CEO of Red Rose Foundation, will be speaking out about non-lethal strangulation, its increase in reports of domestic violence, and why it is a serious issue that can't be ignored.

16.01.2022 Thank you so much to the lovely folks at Atherton Community Funerals who dropped in this care package for staff as part of White Ribbon Week. What a lovely surprise and most welcome.
10.01.2022 Just because you used a dating app to meet someone doesn’t mean you deserve to be treated that way. After being sexually assaulted on a Tinder date, Emily wants others who have experienced sexual violence to know they’re not alone.
08.01.2022 Mission Australia's survey of young Australians paints a grim picture of their fears for the future. Education, mental health and income stress were the most im...portant issue with many not coping with COVID. We need to resource properly mental health support services and permanently increase income support for young people to give them hope of a brighter future. See more

07.01.2022 Another great meeting of the Cairns Reclaim the Night Working Committee. The Committee made up of Cairns community members and service representatives, who meet...ing regularly to plan this year’s Reclaim the Night March. We are working hard to shake things up a little this year with drumming, performance art and a song from our local slam poet Zoe, along with FREE F.R.I.E.S to the first 50 people prior to the march. When we are seeking sexual consent, ask yourself and your partner, "Would you like F.R.I.E.S with that?" Consent should be Freely given Reversible Informed Enthusiastic Specific We cannot wait to see you all there.
