11.01.2022 Hi, Queensland. Let’s have a chinwag about what you should and shouldn’t be using during a State of Fire Emergency! Properly constructed gas BBQs in the open ...are okay. Have a fire extinguisher or bucket of water nearby. Properly constructed pizza ovens are okay. Have a fire extinguisher or bucket of water nearby. Chainsaws are okay, provided the chain is tight to minimise the chance of sparks, and have a fire extinguisher or bucket of water nearby. Welding and grinding are not okay in an open area where sparks can cause a fire. Welding and grinding on job sites clear of vegetation is okay. Have a fire extinguisher or buckets of water nearby. Water pumps are okay, provided grass is cleared away from it. Even better if it is raised on a brick or cement platform. Have a fire extinguisher or bucket of water nearby. Mowers and whipper-snippers are okay, provided necessary precautions are taken because rock strike can spark and cause a fire. Have a fire extinguisher or buckets of water handy. Smokers used by beekeepers are okay because the flame is enclosed, however, the flame should be extinguished if you move between sites. Be safe, everybody!

02.01.2022 **Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are no longer required on scene at this incident.** STAY INFORMED: Glenfern/Villeneuve (near Kilcoy) bushf...ire as at 3.45pm Tue 5 Nov Bushfire warning level: ADVICE Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a bushfire in Glenfern and Villeneuve. You need to keep up to date and decide what actions you will take if the situation changes. Currently as at 3.45pm Tuesday 5 November, a bushfire is burning in the vicinity of Arnolds Road South, Neurum Road and Alma Court. Multiple QFES crews are currently on scene working to contain the fire with the support of waterbombing aircraft. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Properties are not under direct threat at this time. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe you or your property is under threat. A separate bushfire warning now applies to residents in the vicinity of Scrubby Creek, Villeneuve Road and the D’Aguilar Highway due to a second fire burning in the area. These residents should refer to the Prepare to Leave (Watch and Act) for Villeneuve. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO: Listen to your local radio station or visit the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website for regular updates. If you have a bushfire survival plan, refer to it now and be ready to follow it. If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, or if your plan is to leave, identify where you will go if the situation changes. Close windows and doors to minimise smoke exposure. If you suffer from a respiratory condition, keep your medication close by. Drive with caution in low visibility conditions. Contact your neighbours to see if they need help preparing for the bushfire. Consider finding your essential items (e.g., identification documents, prescription medication, food and water, and protective clothing such as a long-sleeved cotton shirt and trousers, and boots) in case you need to leave. Consider what you will do to protect your pets and livestock. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Advise family and friends of your intended actions if the situation changes. KEEP UP TO DATE BY: Following QFES on Facebook (@QldFireandEmergencyServices) and Twitter (@QldFES) Staying tuned to your local radio station. Find your local ABC radio station at https://radio.abc.net.au/help/offline and your local commercial radio station at http://www.commercialradio.com.au/find-a-station/queensland; Visiting the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website at www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/map FURTHER INFORMATION: For bushfire preparation tips, visit the RFS website: www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/BushFire_Safety For information about road closures, call 13 19 40 or visit www.qldtraffic.qld.gov.au The next update will be provided when the situation changes.

01.01.2022 ~~~~SAFETY TIP ~~~~ NOW IS THE TIME TO CLEAN YOUR GUTTERS In a drought situation (like we are currently experiencing) trees will shed many more leaves than normal in order to conserve moisture. A lot of these leaves will end up in your gutters With the bushfires being so prolific this year, this poses a great threat to your home. It only takes 1 floating ember to land in these dry leaves to start a fire Quite often you won’t even know that your roof is on fire unt...il it’s too late. Also, during heavy rain ( it may seem bleak right now, but the rain and storms will come) we are often called out to leaking ceilings. More often than not this is caused by blocked down pipes which then causes the gutters to fill up and the water then runs back into your ceilings. Clean your gutters regularly to prevent this......also pay attention to any valleys in your roof. These also tend to hold leaves. Those of you with tile roofs......check for cracked tiles and replace if possible or repair with flash tape to prevent ceiling damage during heavy rain ALWAYS BE MINDFUL OF YOUR SAFETY WHILE ON LADDERS AND ROOFS PLEASE make sure you have someone else on the ground observing while you are cleaning gutters STAY SAFE AND TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER
