20.01.2022 This #WorldEnvironmentDay were putting a spotlight on the Galapagos Islands, home to an extraordinary biodiversity it harbours. It was the first ever UNESCO World Heritage Site listed and is one of the largest-important marine areas in the world. Last year, UNESCO extended the protected Biosphere Reserve from 772,000 hectares to a whopping 14.6 million hectares. All living things on Earth are connected and its important to be aware of how we can act #ForNature so we can continue to appreciate and explore it in the future. Whats a habit youve developed to be more sustainable?

19.01.2022 Did you know that you can donate hiking boots before leaving Kathmandu by handing them to your World Expeditions Guide in Nepal? We ensure they reach KEEP(Kathmandu Environmental Education Project)s Porter Clothing Centre who loan donated, good quality walking boots for a small fee to porters. While the mountain porters we employ in Nepal receive shoes for our treks as well as other necessary garments, many porters from other companies do not have these same benefits. Local...ly made boots are not robust enough to cope with the hard use, perhaps only lasting five treks in one season. So if youre a trekker with a small foot size (Nepali have smaller than average sized foot compared to most foreigners foot size) and have plans to head to Nepal, you can donate your light weight walking boots that have good ankle support and decent tread pattern remaining. #ThoughtfulTravel

14.01.2022 Lets look on the bright side with this sustainability win. Since 2016, our travellers and an Australian school group have helped install over 80 healthy cook stoves into homes of the Peruvian village, Huilloc, and its surrounding communities. Our #ThoughtfulTravel Huilloc Cook Stove Project have given these families healthier and greener homes to live in.... The cook stoves installed reduce deforestation and carbon emissions than their traditional rudimentary open fire cook stoves, which would rely on wood to burn, producing thick smoke that would hang in the air. Unfortunately, women and children would be inhaling this smoke within such small confines of their kitchens many of whom could spend up to 8 hours a day in the kitchen during meal preparation. So a big thank you to our past travellers who have joined our Community Travel Projects to make improvements from the grassroots, as well as those that generously donated to our World Expeditions Foundation which fund these life-changing projects.

07.01.2022 14 years ago today we lost a legend. Our much loved colleague and friend, Sue Fear, lost her life while descending from Mt Manaslu her fifth 8000-metre peak and she was in the prime of her life. As Australias first lady of mountaineering, she was one of only ten women globally who had successfully climbed four 8,000+ metre mountains and was the first Australian-born woman to climb the technically difficult north face of Mt Everest. Today we remember the amazing and gene...rous person that she was and whom inspired so many. A passionate guide, Sue enjoyed leading walks along the Larapinta Trail where, in honour of her, named one of our eco campsites after her: Fearless Camp. We miss you Sue.
