22.01.2022 IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL FLYERS..... Please ensure to read the whole message. Due to the current restrictions being enforced as a result of COVID19 we are unable to determine if or when our race season will take place. We will endeavour to offer a modified race program if possible at a later date. Our decision is based upon information being provided by Federal, State and Local governments. Please be assured that the WPF BOM puts the health and safety of it's members ahead o...f any race season. If we are able to provide a modified series, any members who would like to fly this season should ensure to maintain the health, training and fitness of their birds to be able to participate. 19.01.2022 Victorian Racing Pigeon Board Update Saturday 5th June. Frustratingly neither Kevin or I had contact with the Minister’s office on Friday. Kevin rang late afternoon but was unable to get through. He will try and contact them again on Monday. The VRPB has reviewed and is likely to refer to The Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry in our Ministerial meetings that we hope to have next week. The Standards and Guidelines were recently reviewed and have pa...ssed into law. I have attached the document. The relevant stipulation regarding tossing is on page 48 and is below : - GB11.11 Free flight exercise should be in accordance with a plan, and for at least 30 minutes duration per day during both pre-training and the race programme. In this document the Standards are backed by legislation and fanciers can be prosecuted if they fail to comply. The Guidelines are just that, and fanciers cannot be prosecuted if they do not follow them. The Guidelines are however recommendations and suggestions by the government authority responsible for animal welfare. The recommendation is that birds be flown for at least 30 mins each day to ensure that they are sufficiently fit to race. If this is not done then sending them to races as unfit ill prepared birds is potentially cruel and in contravention of the Australian Animal Welfare Guidelines . We could argue that the only way to achieve this reliably is to toss the pigeons at reasonable distances . To toss them under 10 km would only provide a few minutes exercise and to force them to fly for this time at home would involve scaring them away from their loft which is undesirable. The VRPB is keen for its members to be able to comply with the guidelines. I think it unlikely that a Minister would make a recommendation that would prevent fanciers from following the advice given in the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines. Hopefully we will meet the Minister early next week. Regards Colin

18.01.2022 IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL FLYERS: The Board of Management has set a starting date for racing on the 4th July 2020. Please share this message with members you know do not receive this text. Thankyou.

09.01.2022 Victorian Racing Pigeon Board. Update Tuesday 8th June On Monday, Kevin Clark again rang the office of Min Spence with no response. We spoke last night and it was agreed that an email should be sent this morning expressing our disappointment at lack of progress. I did this at 9 am this morning. An adviser to Min Spence rang me around midday . We spoke for about 15 minutes and he was very helpful. His advice was that we should contact the Minister for Health, Martin Foley and... the Minister for Agriculture , Mary Anne Thomas. The issue of animal welfare is included in Min Thomas’ portfolio while Covid safety and the granting of exemptions is the concern of Min Foley. This afternoon I have sent emails to both ministers specifically addressing these concerns and requesting meetings with them. Kevin and I have also spoken today about developing a COVID safe plan for members to adopt when tossing their birds. Kevin and Marc Tenaglia hope to have this completed by tomorrow evening. It is hoped that the Ministers, through practices like this will allow us to be self-regulating. Regards Colin Walker See more

08.01.2022 The Chinese man who spends US$85,500 a year raising racing pigeons Tom Wang Dong Xiaobo has a rather expensive hobby. He raises 1,200 racing pigeons in the southern suburbs of Beijing. Dong's pigeons compete in many races and have won him several trophies. But like many pigeon enthusiasts in China, Dong doesnt make money from his hobby. He's invested in 600,000 yuan (US$85,554) of his own money every year to raise and train his pigeons. ... source: https://www.scmp.com//chinese-man-who-spends-us85500-year-
