17.01.2022 I am thinking of getting this uniform for competition

17.01.2022 Proud dad moment. Odin and Archer got Grey belts today. Archer was crying it was overwhelming for him and he did not want to be there. I was explaining that courage is been scared but doing it anyway. Well he kept crying and then Lo Bobadilla called his name and Archer without prompting walked straight out to get his belt. Anxious Crying but head up walking out. I almost cried at the courage he showed. (I got my Blue belt on the same day, so good day all round)

16.01.2022 Stolen from someone else but so relevant: See my comment at the end. In this day and age, telling it as it is and using disciplinary type interaction can be frowned upon in any activity, in sports or schools. But why is this being disciplined important? Building good work ethic. An ethic where any task or job must be followed up to completion, just like in the military, this teaches resilience, and develops disciplined and committed individuals that any employer can trust. ... A martial arts class where the instructors are on the students to work hard, stay on track, start strong and finish strong type mentality, not to extreme of course can have the same positive effect. As the world drifts into the opposite direction of everyone blames everyone else and not many take responsibility, martial arts can be the answer. Parents play a big part and show tough love and let the instructors do their job. No point asking your child, would you like to quit? Or Would you like to try an other activity next year?, I know I had no choice. Eric: My oldest has autism and Adhd and since the break up of my marriage he is getting less and less martial arts training. It is interesting to note that with less training he is becoming more violent.

16.01.2022 Maybe martial arts is a trade. It takes years to develop good skills and longer to learn to teach them well. Maybe that activity you have your child doing is a future career. I am not saying quit school or not do a trade or uni but here is a add on that can really take them some place.

16.01.2022 The most relaxing time I have with my boys is on days we have all trained. 30 mins of chill time and good bonding before the dinner battles

15.01.2022 This is from a military or law enforcement view but I could switch it to self defence. Share this and help us raise the level of sanity in the tactical community. WHAT SIGNAL ARE YOU SENDING?... We need to talk about the hats, bumper stickers, tattoos, and t-shirts. I once came across an email from a Sergeant Major in an elite counter-terrorism unit to his guys. It started: We have become the people we always made fun of It was about a trend he was seeing toward ridiculous clothing and grooming choices beyond the scope of mission requirements. In the law enforcement, military, and civilian defense communities, we have both internal and external drives to be able to deliver controlled violence on demand. We also tend to feel a strong sense of identity and camaraderie within those communities. Further, many peopleparticularly people like us, tend to feel the need to project an image that we are capable of delivering violence. I dont have the space to deep dive the psychology of thatbut you have probably noticed it too. There is nothing inherently wrong with projecting that image, as long as you are self-aware about it and realize that it comes with costs and risks. There are two key risks: You might look more like a dweeb than you realize. You give an adversary time to figure out what to do about you before you realize you have an adversary to deal with. The velcro hat, the cargo pants, the spartan helmet or punisher on your forearm, the bumper sticker about God blessing our troops and especially our snipers, the sheepdog howling at the thin blue line, even that watchthey are signals, and you are communicating a message with them. Is it the message you intend? Who is your intended audience? One of the problems with a signal like that is that you cant turn it off. Its a little like leaving a flashlight turned on in your pocket. And to be clear: I understand the meaning of those symbols and recognize they might be very meaningful to youbut at some point, they become trite and diluted. Consider that the people who tend to do the most signaling tend to be the least capable of delivering on that violence. Perhaps there is a more subtle and effective way to posture? You have probably heard the expression: Be polite, be professional, have a plan to kill everyone you meet, attributed to Secretary Mattis, and it sounds cool, but if you think about it, the first two enable the third. The most dangerous people I have worked with tend to be pretty quiet about it. They exude lethal capability through competence. It is time to bring back the lost art of the quiet professional. It is time to let your fitness, professionalism, and calm demeanor say more to the public and to potential predators than your t-shirt.
