25.01.2022 So, after spotting a wombat this afternoon, I set up a camera trap for the first time. I only received my motion sensor in the mail a few days ago and got a lucky shot. - A few facts: Wombats poop in cubes. A group of wombats is called a wisdom. 24.01.2022 A Spider Wasp (also known as spider-hunting wasps and pompilid wasps) had stung and paralysed this brown (?) huntsman and was dragging it back to its burrow to presumably feed its larvae. Some spider wasps will lay an egg on the spiders body, and then seal it in a chamber or cell at the end of the burrow. The larva hatches and feeds on the body of the spider before pupating in a thin silky cocoon in the cell. Spider wasps have a potentially painful sting. They are generally quite skittish, but this one was pretty calm around us. I love the sheen of their green and gold feathers. Fitting for an Aussie pigeon. Oi Oi Oi!!

18.01.2022 A tiny cute Eucalyptus Leaf Beetle found Triangle Flat Farm Stay a few days ago. They are about 1-1.5cm long. Both the adults and larvae eat plant material and are extremely poisonous if eaten. 14.01.2022 June 2019 - A beautiful ostrich in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe. . . Whilst the ostrich is a flightless bird, boy is it fast. They can reach up to speeds of 70km/hr covering up to 5m per stride. Those strong powerful legs each end with a two-toes foot armed with a 10cm sharp claw to fend off predators. They can grow up to 2.7m tall, with a wingspan up to 2m and can weigh over 150kg. They lay the largest eggs in the world (up to 15cm long and up to 1.5kg). They mainly eat vegetation, but will sometimes eat insects, lizards and other small creatures. Prey is wrapped with copious amounts of bandage - like silk before being bitten . The spider then takes it back to the centre to eat . If threatened , will vibrate web vigorously or drop on a silk line , playing dead .
