18.01.2022 Are you passionate about the Australian beef industry? Do you believe in the necessity to regenerate our soils and retain moisture? Do you want to learn more a...bout natural sequence farming practices? The Lachlan Hughes Foundation has been established to continue the plans, ideals and passions of Lachlan Hughes in regenerative agriculture and training young people to enhance the future of the beef industry. The Scholarship in his name will be outcomes based and needs to be focused on regenerative agriculture. This could include but not limited to examples such as projects to :- slowing water and spreading it over land; tackling erosion; increasing vegetation in fragile areas; rebuilding carbon in the soils; establishing a production model that focuses on regenerative pasture and vegetation management; and practices to keep land rain ready. The Scholarship will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to learn through an individually tailored program which could include attending training courses with Resource Consulting Services (RCS) in Queensland and the Mulloon Institute in NSW. This knowledge will then be the basis to design, develop and implement a regenerative agriculture project using natural sequence farming techniques. The successful applicant will be matched with a mentor who has the skill set to coach and support a person through their journey to achieve the expectations and outcomes identified in their project. Assistance will be given to develop a network of contacts in the wider beef and regenerative agriculture industry. The Project can either be completed on a private property which the applicant has access to, or on a property of a supporting partner of The Foundation. Applications are open TODAY and close 5pm AEST 31st January, 2020. To apply download the application form via the foundation website https://www.lachlanhughesfoundation.org.au/apply/
18.01.2022 Research into New Zealand’s sheep and beef greenhouse gas emissions has found that previous estimates may have been overstated. Conducted by research institute ...AgResearch, the report is based on a more accurate calculation of the nitrous oxide emissions from sheep, beef and dairy production, which shows that nitrous oxide emissions are two-thirds and one-third respectively lower than previously thought. 14.01.2022 Today is National Agriculture Day. Whether city or bush-based, Australians are all motivated to create a better future for our families and our environment. ... We all live in the same modern world and share the same progressive values. It’s these values that drive our farmers to produce high quality food and fibre everyday for all Australians and the world. With so many farmers contending with one of the worst droughts in living memory, there's never been a better time to stand with our farming communities. #WeAreAusFarmers #AgDayAU

08.01.2022 SUNSET SERIES KICKS OFF THIS AFTERNOON at 6:00pm QLD Time) Returning to give us an update on the past 12 months are John and Kate Scott from ‘Allandale’. Join us for a Facebook live presentation with a couple of brews ... John & Kate Scott and their three children bought their first property in 2004 , outside Roma. Locals described it as ‘bushranger country’ as it was fairly undeveloped, in need of a lot of timber treatment, soil and pasture improvement, water, fencing & yard infrastructure. They saw it as a challenge and ploughed into it by borrowing the lot and investing everything in the capital infrastructure while agisting backgrounder cattle on the property on a weight gain basis. Improved pastures were planted, soil and dung tests conducted and continual analysis performed which paid off with return by excellent weight gains and a healthy property. Forward planning and ensuring close relationships with industry professionals is the key to their business ensuring expert knowledge, efficiency, optimal soil health and return on investment. Currently they are de-stocked conserving ground cover but are fertilising pastures on their home place (and about to start a MLA PDS with this) and are developing another property. They like to consider themselves grass farmers firstly and beef producers secondly . The family are passionate about the future of agriculture and are extremely encouraging of young people joining the industry.
