18.01.2022 eSafety is aware of distressing reports about a suicide video circulating on social media. Weve contacted the social media platforms and are working together t...o monitor the situation. Please follow our advice below. * If you see this video online report it to the social media platform its on, or to eSafety at www.esafety.gov.au/report/illegal-harmful-content. * We encourage parents, carers and educators to avoid raising the issue of the video directly with young people who may not have heard or been exposed to it. Instead, we encourage proactive conversations with children about distressing content they may come across online, letting them know they can come to you or another trusted adult if they feel upset or uncomfortable by it. * Monitor young people who are more vulnerable and at-risk. If a young person is presenting with signs of distress, schools should follow their own procedures for managing and supporting students at risk. * If a life is in danger call Triple Zero (000) right now. * Anyone who may be at risk or experiencing emotional distress, including worried family and friends, to contact one of the following services: Kids Helpline Official 1800 55 1800. https://kidshelpline.com.au/ Suicide Call Back Service 1300 659 467. https://www.suicidecallbackservice.org.au/ headspace 1800 650 890. https://headspace.org.au/ Lifeline 13 11 14. https://www.lifeline.org.au/ Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636. https://www.beyondblue.org.au/

This has integrated well with our literacy focus where students have been using their fact finding skills using a variety of information texts and references. Students have particularly enjoyed using google earth and google maps to compare the features of places, not only in their local area, but also over the seven continents of the world. After researching the continents and famous landmarks, the children created an artwork of one of their favourite places.

08.01.2022 In Kinder B we read Red House, Blue House, Green House, Tree House by Jane Godwin and Jane Reiseger. The story contains beautiful, brightly coloured illustrations and it made us wonder about favourite colours. We asked everyone in our class what their favourite colour was, and we found out the most popular favourite colour was pink! Then we wondered if what the most popular colour in our whole school was, so we went to visit some classes to find out. We brainstormed what to do with all of the information we collected, and problem-solved together to discover that the most popular favourite colour at Youngtown Primary isBLUE! We also did completed an art challenge, where we created a painting using only our favourite colour.

08.01.2022 We are aware that there are occasions when social media can place the wellbeing of our young people at risk. When this occurs, it is important we follow the advice of the eSafety Commissioner. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner encourages parents and carers to co-view, co-play, and ask questions about the games, and apps their children are using; and let them know you are there to support them if they are upset or uncomfortable about anything they see online. The Offi...ce of the eSafety Commissioners website has a section specifically for parents which you are encouraged to visit for further information. It does include advice on supporting teenagers should they encounter content that is upsetting, disturbing or offensive. https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents We also encourage people who encounter such content to report it to the social media platform theyve seen it on, or to eSafety at www.esafety.gov.au/report/illegal-harmful-content

07.01.2022 We don't need to tell you how crazy this year has been. You’ll notice that celebrations and activities usually occurring at this time of year will be done diff...erently. Including remembering our COVID-safe behaviours and following Public Health advice. Celebrations and activities will look different from school to school based on its size and the facilities they have available. But please remember the most important thing is keeping each other safe. Whatever your school has planned, please support them as they try to hold these special celebrations safely. #LearnersFirst #TasGovEducation
