25.01.2022 As it’s Dementia awareness month in Australia this month I wanted to do a little shoutout to this true superstar- my Mum, Bette. Mum has suffered with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s for quite a few years now. Mum is the main reason why Zebrula was ever actually created! I knew although Mum son was going to need me less my mum was going to need me more and more...... After losing my brother and father both to cancer very closely together my beautiful Mum (understandably) went down hill VERY quickly! At first doctors thought it was depression but soon we realised it was far more. I am the full time carer of this beautiful lady and although it’s hard at times I truly believe their is nothing else I would rather do and I’m honoured that I can look after her after all the years Mum looked after me! Mum has always been my biggest supporter and friend and would take me to horse events all over the state (as long as she didn’t have to reverse the horse float ) If you’ve never met anyone with dementia it’s a hard disease to explain. It’s so heartbreaking seeing the person you love slowly slip away and become a shell of the person you knew!
