24.01.2022 Hey fellow artists. How are we all travelling? Im finding it hard to get info on what part of the lockdown stage we fit into. Is anyone shut up shop? What ex...tra measures are you taking? I only opened (after months of asbestos/ license and council issues) a month ago. Thanks for any advice. Tattoo Curiosities.

23.01.2022 PLEASE support your local tattooist in these times by both getting tattooed and also by disclosing information regarding contact with anyone who has tested positive to COVID-19, recent international flights or just not feeling well. Tattooists in professional studios have been trained in cross contamination procedure and understand viral and bacterial infection control so as long as everyone is honest about their situation we can all still get tattooed and continue to support the small businesses across Australia keeping the art alive.

22.01.2022 Excellent section form a much larger Japanese tattoo, done by Sean Jackson, third year guild member and long time team member of Tattoo Magic.

15.01.2022 ATTENTION QUEENSLAND TATTOOISTS - this information was recently handed to us from the OFT regarding licence renewals and applications for tattooing in Queensland. Tattoo operators In response to the spread of COVID-19, the Prime Minister has announced a ban on all tattooing procedures in Australia until further notice.... This ban means tattooists and operators cannot perform tattooing anywhere in Australia, including in their own home, until the government relaxes the restrictions. We do not yet know when this will occur. As a result, we will not issue any new tattoo operator licences under the Tattoo Industry Act 2013 during this time. We want to offer existing tattoo licensees as much assistance and flexibility as possible for your licence. If you recently lodged a new application and paid your licence fees, but have not yet been issued with your licence, you can either: withdraw your application and seek a refund of the licence fee put your application and licence fee on hold with us, until the ban is lifted. For existing licensees, your licence remains valid until the current licence period expireseither 1 or 3 years after the licence was granted or your last renewal. We cannot suspend your licence other than cancelling it. If your licence is due for renewal during this ban, it is still important you lodge your renewal application for it to remain current and to avoid having to apply for a new licence when it expires. By keeping your licence current, you can avoid submitting application paperwork and undergoing fingerprinting and criminal history checks again to renew. When government restrictions are lifted, you will also be able to resume your tattooing business straight away, but only if you have lodged your renewal before it expires during this time. If you need to renew your licence, you will need to mail it to: The Industry Licensing Unit GPO Box 3111 BRISBANE QLD 4001

13.01.2022 Committee members and senior consultants, along with Mick from Protat Tattoo Supply attended a meeting with QLD Dept Health to discuss the QLD DEPT HEALTH proposal for the new Medicines and Poisons Bill and Regulations, under which the Dept is seeking consultation about introducing restrictions on certain chemical constituents, based on recent suggestions from NICNAS. Although it is seen from the information provided that most PROFESSIONAL tattooists would already be using pi...gment and ink that complies with the standard recommended, having seen the potential for disruptive compliance policing at a studio level, we have suggested alternative ways to make the regulation less likely to embed studios in red tape bureaucracy. More consultation has been sought by the ATG and has been accepted by the QLD Dept Health, with more meetings to ensue to ensure that the limits and the restrictions are not only viable for the industry but also protect clients without placing more red tape burden on small businesses. It is likely that other states will either adopt the new pigment ingredient standards from QLD or follow suit and base any tattoo pigment legislation on the QLD bill and so we will most likely end up having a national standard for tattoo ink ingredients - which is why its so important to make sure the QLD bill is something that doesnt hobble the Australian tattoo industry. The likelihood that a national tattoo pigment ingredients standard may be able to stunt or prevent purchasing of tattoo ink from such online stores as Ebay and Gumtree is high, (as demonstrated by similar proceedings in New Zealand) but not before all states have decided to adopt the recommendations of NICNAS or the QLD bill. A long way to go but an encouraging meeting. The ATG is determined to PROTECT the industry from amateurs and heavy red-tape bureaucracy and this is a step forward in that direction. See more

09.01.2022 So I got a message today from a client who thanked me for suggesting he get a mole looked at by his doctor - it turned out to be stage one melanoma, theyre removing another 5cm out of his shoulder (just above his tattoo!). I think its important to talk with clients about their skin - we dont have to be experts on moles, just a question to the client can inspire them to get checked. Odd shapes, strange discolouration can be a sign but just suggesting a skin checkup is easy enough and you might just save a life.
