13.01.2022 Lunchtime STEM activities have been a hit this term with students from both Primary and Secondary joining in on the fun. This week students from year 5 and up have been busy using conductive thread, batteries and LEDs to embed technology into pieces of fabric for jewellery or decoration.

13.01.2022 This year, with COVID requiring us to do Lumen Day differently, LCCC took the opportunity to explore the Uluru Statement from the Heart. The theme for the day was "From the Heart" and involved a short liturgy streamed around the school, followed by a couple of guest speakers and then an exploration of the Statement of the Heart done in pastoral groups. Money collected as a part of the mufti day fundraiser will go from our hearts to Sr Rei and our friends in Pontevedra, Phi...lippines. "Miriaal giiyong nygiigaan guli walunung" - "God welcome into my heart".

13.01.2022 END OF YEAR EVENTS FOR YEAR 12 Dear Parents, Carers and Students Due to COVID-19 regulations, our end of Year 12 celebrations will look a little different this year. As a result the following Year 12 events have been arranged for next week: ... Tuesday 22 September - All Day - Dress Up Day 1 Idol Theme Wednesday 23 September - All Day - Dress up Day 2 Daggy Day - Wear Something Old Recycled and Out of Date - 1:00pm Year 12 Lunch - 2:00 - 3:00pm - Year 12 Showcase Afternoon - 5:00 - 6:30pm - College Graduation Mass, College Hall, full College uniform to be worn Thursday 24 September - 9:10am - 11:00am - Year 12 Final Awards Assembly, full College uniform to be worn Due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to extend our normal invitation for families to join us for these occasions. Full College uniform is required for both the Graduation Mass and Final Awards Assembly. Year 12 Graduation Dinner At this stage the Year 12 Graduation has not been finalised. Recent changes to NSW government regulations allows some latitude for the College to hold a Graduation Dinner. Generally speaking, this would be a student and supervising staff event only. As such, it will be an alcohol free event, governed by Covidsafe planning points. We are working through details with Club Sapphire as the venue, and with our student body to determine if the event will be supported by students. A meeting with Year 12 students will be held next week to confirm arrangements. More details about this event will be provided soon. For further information please contact the College on 6495 8888 or email [email protected]

12.01.2022 Dear Lumen Christi Parents and Carers Our school has received COVID-19 updated advice from NSW Health and Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn. The updated advice and additional measures attempt to provide greater specificity around the protocols to help manage the risks posed by COVID-19 to school communities. These new restrictions and guidelines are to be implemented at the school by Wednesday, 19 August 2020.... A significant change to the guidelines is in regard to COVID-19 testing requirements. We need to continue to exclude any students (or staff) if they display any flu-like symptoms, even if mild. Students (and staff) with even mild flu-like symptoms are now required to be tested and can only return to school upon a receipt of a negative test result that must be provided to the school. Lumen Christi remains fully operational and all students are expected to attend face to face classes. Thank you for your understanding and support in these challenging times. Kind regards Shane Giles Acting Principal

12.01.2022 Dear Parents and Students of Lumen Its great to see that many students remain active by riding their bikes to school. As the weather warms we may expect that more students will take this option. It is important that students remember the safety rule for cyclists. Parents are asked to educate their children in safety procedures and compliance with the NSW law. ... Please read the flyer (below) from NSW Government about riding safely to school. Helmets and safety gear Protect your head - Bicycle riders are required by law to wear an approved helmet securely fitted and fastened. In NSW there are no exemptions from wearing an approved bicycle helmet. Horns and bells - Your bike must be fitted with a working horn or bell to help sound a warning to other cyclists or pedestrians. Brakes - Your bike must be fitted with at least one working brake Storage and security - Students are to park their bikes on the bike racks at the front of the College. All bikes should be secured with a bike lock or chain. Lumen Christi Takes These Matters Seriously No student is to bring a bike to the College if they do not have a have a helmet, or their bike does not comply with the safety rules above. We need to ensure the safety of our students and to educate our students in the best ways to stay healthy as they enjoy the benefits of cycling.

The theme for the day is "From the Heart" and our short liturgy, which will be beamed around the school, and PC activity will focus on the Uluru Statement from the Heart. This is an important document that was written by the First Nations people and sent to the Australian Government in 2017. We will also be having a $2 mufti day fundraiser, with additional donations ...being very welcome. The money raised will go from our hearts to Sr Rei and our friends in Pontevedra, Philippines. We must not forget the great struggles they face on a daily basis and how grateful they are for all the assistance we give them. Please be generous. Periods 1, 2, 5 & 6 will all be lessons as normal. Below are photos of the new playground in Pontevedra, built with donations already received from the LCCC community. 06.01.2022 Hayleigh Lonesborough The Girl in Red, 2019 Oil on canvas board. Hayleigh Lonesborough created the artwork The Girl in Red in 2019 as part of her HSC Visual Arts Body Work. She was influenced by how colours can convey meaning and emotion. In my culture, we use symbolism and so I used colours as a means of conveying my thoughts. This artwork is a self portrait representing sorrow and the elements of yellow within the landscape represent healing. The artwork was acquired by the College this year and hangs proudly in Block One.
