25.01.2022 Teamwork is one of four Army values. A daisy chain is a very efficient way of finishing recovery support tasks quickly. Here you can see #OurPeople in 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery Emergency Support Force on a debris clearance task. Typically, 1 or 2 qualified members will cut down logs with chainsaws and the remainder work together to clear everything out. On #OpBushfireAssist we have completed over 500 tasks to date! #GoodSoldiering #ArmyInMotion

25.01.2022 Project Land 19 Phase 7B will replace the current Short Range Air Defence capability, including our RBS-70, as the Armys principal air defence weapon. The new system is the National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS). It is the van-guard project for the Artillery Modernisation Plan and it will deliver an integrated air and missile defence capability which supports coalition operations. The project has a planned initial operational capability in financial year 2022/2023. Kongsberg Defence Australia has recently announced the commencement of in-country manufacturing activities for the Fire Distribution Centre shelter subsystem for NASAMS by Adelaide Hills-based Zenith Custom Creations. Zenith is based just around the corner from Woodside Barracks, in Mount Barker, South Australia. #ArmyinMotion #GoodSoldiering

24.01.2022 16 Regiment RAA members travelled to the Murray Bridge Training Area in October to support live firing familiarisation shoots for the Australian Army Cadets - South Australia Brigade. With the cadets varying in experience from first time shooters to those undertaking qualifying shoots, the 1:1 coaching from the 16 Regiment RAA members focused on the foundations of weapon handling and marksmanship principles to help the cadets improve their technique. LT Luke Wiles of @16Regim...ent was a safety supervisor for the activity. LT Wiles said It was great to see the cadets getting out of their comfort zones, enjoying the outdoors and experiencing some of what the Army has to offer. Each year, Army trains over 17,000 @Australian Army Cadets and @16Regiment are proud to be a #partner in growing resilient and confident future leaders. #YourADF. #GoodSoldiering. #ArmyInMotion

22.01.2022 The Fox Creek mountain bike precinct in Cudlee Creek was a favourite for locals and interstate riders alike, offering a wide variety of trails with beautiful views through the natural bushland. It sustained extensive damage in the recent bushfires and unfortunately had to be closed due to safety concerns. In conjunction with ForestrySA, 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery Emergency Support Force Teams have been working to restore the vehicle and mountain bike trails by cl...earing debris from routes and proofing tracks. The task commenced on 31 Jan 20 and was completed on 13 Feb 20, with all tracks cleared for safe access where possible. This paves the way for other agencies to continue the recovery plan for the area as well as restore the landscape. Please stay tuned for further advice from ForestrySA regarding the reopening of the Fox Creek mountain bike precinct to the public. 18.01.2022 At its heart, Anzac Day is always a moment of personal reflection where we demonstrate our solemn respect for those who have served, and those who continue to serve in our nations uniforms. So how should we pay our respect to those that served in war or more recently during Operation Bushfire Assist this year? Members of 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery are writing to veterans in South Australia through our local RSLs. The letters describe what ANZAC day means to our ...#ourpeople and aims to connect them to veterans during a time of relative isolation. We got the idea from the Veterans SA Website (https://veteranssa.sa.gov.au/anzac-day-2020-commemoration-/), which has a number of ideas for commemorating Anzac Day in 2020. One letter, by Lance Bombardier Pullen captures the idea that difficult times highlight the best of the Anzac spirit. #AnzacDay2020 #LestWeForget

05.01.2022 In November 2019, the senior soldiers and officers of 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery came together to decide on the units top ten educational resources to support professional military education for junior commanders. It was recently published by our good friends at The Cove - Australian Army.

05.01.2022 @16REGT supports South Australia Police (SAPOL) through Operation COVID-19 Assist along the South Australia-Victoria border. The last five weeks have seen 16 Regiment RAA soldiers supporting SAPOL officers at 13 border checkpoints, and assisting with a number of roving patrols in SAPOL vehicles. Notable events have seen soldiers adopt two local dogs while their owners recover in an Adelaide Hospital for unrelated illnesses. ‘Borris’ and ‘Esky’ are excellent additions to the t...eams on the ground. Not only are they great company at the checkpoints, but also a favourite of the local community. A visit organised by SAPOL from a local primary school resulted in another addition to the team - a ‘COVID Scarecrow’. The Scarecrow was constructed by the school children to help the soldiers and SAPOL keep the border safe. The Commanding Officer, Regimental Sergeant Major and Adjutant of 16 Regiment RAA, recently visited the soldiers on the ground to see their commitment firsthand. The checkpoints are now well established, and the effective collaboration between SAPOL and Defence is evident. Local community support for Defence and SAPOL is appreciated, with the regular delivery of baked goods and extra firewood to checkpoints. Their hospitality has added a comfortable touch to the operation, and everyone working at the border is very appreciative of their support. #GoodSoldiering #ArmyinMotion

03.01.2022 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery Emergency Support Forces tasks in support of the Lobethal Recovery Centre in the Adelaide Hills have now concluded. Since 09 Jan 20, the force has assisted over 500 fire affected residents with stock water and fodder delivery, fire-affected tree felling, debris clearance and clearing access routes to their properties. We supported local councils and the state government in restoration of community recreation areas such as the Lobethal B...ushland Park and the Fox Creek Mountain Bike Trail. We also assisted in the recovery of native wildlife by building enclosures and helping to care for orphaned koala joeys at Cleland Wildlife Park. We would like to thank the Defence personnel from all three services who arrived from across Australia at short notice to assist us in this operation. It was a privilege to directly help our community and assist them in their recovery. We have connected with amazing local residents and organisations, which has created lasting relationships into the future. As we refocus our efforts to force generation, we are conscious that our community is still in the recovery phase. We remain ready and able to respond if our community needs us again. #YourADF remains closely linked with the National Bushfire Recovery Agency, state and local authorities to ensure continuity of support to affected communities.
