23.01.2022 Today marks the one year anniversary of the reproductive healthcare bill passing the Parliament of NSW! This was the most effective multi-partisan effort I have ever been a part of, and was only made possible by the decades long advocacy to decriminalise abortion in NSW. You can read my final speech here https://www.alexgreenwich.com/reproductive_health_care_refo Ps. Happy Birthday to my colleague Tammie, who worked around the clock to make this happen, and was a wonderful way to celebrate her birthday a year ago!

22.01.2022 After 12 hours of opposing the appalling mandatory HIV and blood borne diseases testing bill, Jenny Leong and I were able highlight all the problems with the bill. It now won’t pass the parliament this year and will be considered by an upper house inquiry in the new year. My concerns on the bill are outlined at https://www.alexgreenwich.com/testing_bill_concerns

08.01.2022 AUSTRALIA/INVASION DAY For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and many Sydneysiders, the 26 January date is not something to celebrate because it marks the start of invasion, dispossession and killings, stolen wages, stolen children and ongoing inequality. I support the day and date being changed to focus on reconciliation and citizenship. ... Many feel a great sense of patriotism and want to celebrate our national day. Being patriotic is also about being honest, and I will use the day to reflect on the historic injustices faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and urge new citizens to work with me and fellow Sydneysiders towards reconciliation and treaty. I support a proper government response to the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and the call for a Voice, Truth and Treaty. Add your voice here https://ulurustatement.org

04.01.2022 January 26 is about truth telling. Over 150 years ago about 50,000 people on 62,000 indenture contracts from around 80 Pacific Islands were recruited or kidnapped to work in sugar cane fields where they were exploited. Today I was honoured to join Auntie Emelda Davis and Deputy Lord Mayor Jess Scully at #Sugarfest to recognise the contribution of South Sea Islanders to Australia and continue the fight for justice. You can learn more about Australian South Sea Islanders at http://www.assipj.com.au
