25.01.2022 Some of the biggest players in Australias gas sector have made more than $6.4m in political donations over the past decade, including $426,000 to the Liberal and National parties in the 2018/19 election year. How can you trust the motives of political parties that are financially beholden to vested interests? We have the best political donations policy in the country - not a single cent of corporate money sits in our bank account. ... 23.01.2022 And so ends 29 years of economic growth, with the Keating-led economic miracle finally defeated by Covid-19. For many Young Australians, this is the first recession in their lifetimes, and with generational wealth inequality at unprecedented levels, its the young who are going to bear the weight of this recession. The government has committed to winding down economic stimulus already, with the changes to JobKeeper passing the parliament this week. Now is not the time to redu...ce JobKeeper - its the time to expand it to all those that Mr. Morrison has left behind. Demand Better. 20.01.2022 Governments have the power to influence positive change in multiple ways. Some of those ways are participatory. When governments make it policy to only trade tax-payer dollars with businesses who meet the "highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose" not only are they making a clear statement on their values, they are investing in the future direction and social culture of the ...nation. Are you tired of politicians who act as though the only thing that matters is financial profit? Do you want political leaders who invest in the holistic progress of our communities? Then join the Australian Progressives today and help us #empower #ethical business. Article: https://probonoaustralia.com.au//building-back-better-thr/ Image: https://www.bcorporation.com.au

19.01.2022 While we were all focused on other issues, the Liberal and Labor parties both acted to give greater access for property developers to influence parties. You can't buy Australian Progressives. We accept no corporate donations, and will push to get money out of politics altogether. 19.01.2022 A blazer of trails for women. An example of courage for change makers. A beacon of light for progressives. RIP RBG - we hope the world can find a way to grow your legacy.

19.01.2022 Everyone deserves a home. We know that within our socioeconomic system there are parts of our community who will never be able to secure a home on their own. Within a strong #empathetic community this would be ok - the leaders work to ensure good outcomes for all regardless of their situation. Michael Pascoe writes, "There has been one consistent, loud and very helpful suggestion made from many quarters about what the federal government could most efficiently and productivel...y do to stimulate employment and business: Build extra social housing." A win, win, win! Homes for the most vulnerable, employment opportunities and stimulus for industry. But our federal government says no. A position that is ideological and politically motivated - good outcomes for all are set aside in favour of self and vested interests. The Australian Progressives policy is priority for housing as shelter, and a home to live in over tax minimisation/investment. Will you help us? 18.01.2022 We are disappointed by this move by World Rugby to put a blanket ban on transgender women participating in sport. There were no advocates on the board for trans... people when this decision was made, and no real world examples have been looked at. The claim about safety for cisgender women doesn't seem to hold water if they are ok for trans men to play against cis men. Instead of a blanket ban which will continue to foster transphobia and exclusion we should be looking at a case by case basis. The LGBT+ sporting community needs support to break down barriers and see better inclusion, and this is a backwards step by World Rugby. https://www.sbs.com.au//why-transgender-participation-in-a

18.01.2022 The Veil of Ignorance is a methodology for decision makers. When making a determination on a social or moral issue step 1 is to consider the consequences of your decision on everyone - rich, poor, male, female, queer, straight, citizen, immigrant, Indigenous, young, old, working, unemployed, educated, life-schooled, abused, families, single-parents, alone. Step 2 is to make your decision based on the fact that you do not know which one of these things you are. It's a tool for... #empathetic leaders. When our decision makers make their determinations from the perspective of their privileged positions only, the outcomes can cause great suffering. If you were responsible for designing a social housing or affordable housing policy from the perspective that one day you will be homeless, would middle-aged women be living out of a car? https://www.sbs.com.au//400-000-women-over-45-are-at-risk-

17.01.2022 from 2008 to 2018, young people had more difficulty getting jobs in the occupations they aspired to. And if they started in a less attractive occupation, it was even harder than before 2008 to climb the occupation ladder. We need to transition to an economy that works for the people, rather than all serving at the altar of the church of GDP. The Australian Progressives are committed to abolishing Poverty, and developing people centred local and national economies. 17.01.2022 TW: Suicide Today is "R U OK?" day, where we are reminded to check in with family, friends a colleagues and offer support. Today is also World Suicide Prevention Day. Too many of us have been touched by the impact, and more desperately needs to be done to save lives. A conversation is merely a starting point. What happens next is critical.... We need more bulk billing clinical psychologists to reduce the waiting time to less than 8 WEEKS. We need to build outpatient capacity to handle medium to high risk cases. Your options can't just be the ward or 8 weeks wait for a specialist consult. We need access to diagnostics, treatments and medications irrespective of socioeconomic status. We desperately need accessible mental health services in regional and rural areas. We need trained mental health professionals in schools and police departments. We need to address the systemic causes of stress and psychological harm - from childhood abuse to drug reform and rehabilitation to decriminilisation and dismantling a system that prioritises profit over people, or treats people as sub-human. The stigma must end. It's OK to not be OK. If you need support today or any other day please reach out: Lifeline: 131114 For guidance on how to have a conversation today, visit: https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

16.01.2022 The most destructive and bloody conflict in human history. 39,000 Australians lost their lives, with around 30,000 taken as prisoners of war - many suffering unimaginable horrors. Today we remember them and the sacrifices made by all people who suffered through this terrible event. All nations across the world must work constantly to ensure it never occurs again. Lest we forget.

16.01.2022 Two days ago we ran out. Our annual budget of natural resources was exhausted, and from now until the end of the year we will take more from this planet than it can successfully regenerate. The Earth Overshoot Day was first calculated in 2006 by the Global Footprint Network, and provides a snapshot of how much and how well we use the natural resources available to us. It is easy to think there is nothing that can be done, but that is not true. Every little step that individu...als and industries make adds together to make great strides of progress. From supporting local produce and stopping single use plastics, to movements such as Australian Parents for Climate Action and their Solar Our Schools campaign, each individual effort adds to a collective voice for change. Let's #MoveTheDate of Earth Overshoot Day back again next year. See www.overshootday.org for more info.

14.01.2022 Forty-five years ago today... 11.01.2022 Let's say it all together...the economy is here to make our lives better, our lives are not here to make a better economy.

11.01.2022 A reminder that 1 in 7 working-age people - 2.3 million people - are facing $300 a fortnight to their incomes in less than 5 weeks, when the Coronavirus Supplem...ent is reduced from $550 to $250. Who will lose money? People on JobSeeker, Parenting Payment, Austudy, Youth Allowance, and other payments. People looking for paid work, people studying, people caring for children. You might think it cruel to cut incomes that were only a smidge above the poverty-line. You might think it cruel to cut people's unemployment payments during the worst jobs crisis in a century. You might think it reckless to cut people's incomes when we are in the midst of a life-and-death battle with a pandemic. You might think it destructive to take $300 a fortnight from 2.3 million people - the population of Brisbane - at a time when the economy has experienced the largest, steepest ever decline. A time when we need more consumption, more public spending. I certainly do.

10.01.2022 Trying to get past narrow ideological perspectives and reach the truth. Good faith, productive dialogue with people with whom we disagree is not easy - but it is critical if we are to find our way to change the world. Please consider this space a forum for respectful disagreement.

07.01.2022 We want the Minister to know that there is a better way to resolve his concerns with "ballooning HELP debts": 1. Acknowledge that education is not about attaining qualifications. 2. Provide adequate needs-based funding across the education sector and world-leading public free tertiary education for all. 3. Provide adequate renumeration for teachers and educators....
