20.01.2022 CONSORTIUM MEMBER UPDATE: Neurosurgeon, avid researcher and biobanking enthusiast, A/Prof Lindy Jeffree, is taking the helm at Brain Cancer Biobanking Australia (BCBA). Michael Besser is delighted to be passing the baton to Lindy and recently welcomed her formally, touching on their shared history and Lindy’s accomplishments: Lindy I remember publishing a paper with you exactly 20 years ago! We are very lucky to have such a multi-talented and committed person taking the l...ead at BCBA. I firmly believe that every organisation needs and benefits from change and look forward to watching BCBA continue to develop and grow with you at the helm. Currently based at Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital (RBWH), Lindy commenced her neurosurgical training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital with post fellowship training at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney and Paediatric Neurosurgery at the Hôpital Necker Enfants Malades in Paris. As an examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons with a master’s degree in Higher Education, Lindy is a keen teacher and mentor to young doctors, tutoring neurological examination to Interns and supervising neurosurgical trainees at RBWH. Her research background includes proteomics glioma research at the University of Sydney, a MSc in electrophysiology at the University of Montreal and a year in the Physiological Lab at the University of Cambridge. At present she is collaborating with researchers in the Sid Faithfull Brain Cancer Laboratory at QIMR-Berghofer; the Breast Cancer Research Group, University of Qld; and the Biomedical Imaging Group at the Australian E-Health Research Centre, CSIRO. Does she ever relax? Apparently so - bush care, camping and sailing take up her time in the great outdoors, while painting and playing the guitar are the pursuits of choice at home. We are excited and very fortunate to be welcoming A/Prof Lindy Jeffree as the new Chair of BCBA! #braincancer #consortiumforchange #bcba #braincancercollective #braincanceraustralia

07.01.2022 Virtual care is on the horizon for brain cancer patients. COVID 19 has led to the rapid and widespread uptake of telehealth - a phone consultation with your doctor now seems commonplace and we're on fast forward to the next generation in healthcare delivery Virtual Care. BCBAis developing avirtual care coordination project BRAINCARE thatis a prime example of this next generationmodel of care. BRAINCARE will overcome the current fragmented, uncoordinated delivery of... care for adult and paediatric brain cancer patients Australia-wide. The digital platform will act as a 'virtual companion' connecting brain cancer patients and their carers with the expert clinical advice and resources they need to navigate their complex journey, while enabling healthcare providers to monitor and respond to patient needs whether they are in urban, rural or remote regions across Australia. The BRAINCARE project promises to transform supportive care for brain cancer patients and their carers. www.braincancercollective.com.au #braincare #braincancercollective #braincancer #abetterfuture #virtualcare #telehealth #BCBA #braincanceraustralia
06.01.2022 CONSORTIUM MEMBER PROFILE: ‘It’s amazing how much can be achieved on a shoestring when everyone believes in what they are doing.’ - Prof Anna Nowak As a custodian of a brain cancer biobank, Professor Nowak was involved in the very first Brain Cancer Biobanking Australia (BCBA) Steering Committee meeting. She is passionate about engaging in a consumer-led research agenda and working with the committed group of clinicians and researchers who make up the BCBA Consortium.... Anna is a leading oncologist, clinical trialist and translational researcher in the fields of neuro-oncology and mesothelioma.
