25.01.2022 This year continues to throw one challenge after another at us all, but in amongst the chaos, some truly extraordinary generosity shines through. The entire Foodbank Australia family has been working tirelessly to keep essential food relief available to vulnerable Australians, but it’s getting harder by the day, as I explained on The Daily Edition this week. Supply chains are stretched beyond capacity and there is little - if any - surplus for us to rescue. This means we nee...d prioritised access to food and groceries, or proactive donations from our amazing food & grocery manufacturers and retailers. Both Coles and Nestlé have gone above and beyond to ensure we can have food and groceries available to our 2,400 frontline agencies during these incredibly uncertain times. Coles is donating extra food and groceries to the retail value of $1 million PER WEEK to help Australians who are facing hardship as a result of the Coronavirus. Nestle is donating $2 million in products including food items such as coffee, cereals, meal bases and pet food. I will confess to bursting into tears when the news came through for each of these amazing donations. Every day has been tougher than the last, but leadership and kindness like this gives me so much hope for the future. To our farmers, the Australian Food and Grocery Council & their members, and all of our retail partners, I cannot say thank you enough. #covid19 #zerohunger #nestle #foodbank #foodinsecurity #coles

25.01.2022 Last week I had the pleasure of spending time with the unstoppable author and entrepreneur extraordinaire - Lisa Messenger at Foodbank NSW & ACT. It was so good to work side by side, packing hampers and brainstorming ideas with the team about how we can get the community involved to rally behind those who need it most! Stay tuned for more exciting plans coming, but in the meantime check out a snippet of our day: #zerohunger #foodbanker #foodrelief

25.01.2022 A quick update for our wonderful farmer, manufacturer and retail partners on some recent changes at Foodbank. We are continuing to implement new health, hygiene and social distancing policies at all sites and at all points along our ‘surprise chain’. We are responding promptly to changes in government requirements, including today’s new social distancing measures, and doing our very best to keep up with the skyrocketing demand for our services. We know all of you are working ...night and day to respond to the surreal operating environment that is our (hopefully temporary!) new normal, and we are so grateful for everything you are doing to keep supply chain interruption to a minimum. On behalf of the entire Foodbank family, we commend and thank you for your tireless efforts, and we can’t wait to hear from you when there is finally surplus in your supply chains again (Please keep an eye on Foodbank Australia socials for key #COVID19 updates)

24.01.2022 I'm far more comfortable talking about Foodbank Australia than I am talking about myself, but when I was invited to be part of the brand new podcast series from Women's Agenda, I jumped at the chance! If you aren't yet subscribing to #TheLeadershipLessons podcast, jump on board. There's something in there for everyone.

24.01.2022 Every social media platform I’m on keeps reminding me what we were doing this time last year, but instead of looking back, I want to focus on the here and now, and what I’m grateful for. I’m grateful to the team of legends I have the privilege of working with, both within and outside of the Foodbank Australia family, to make the lives of vulnerable people in Australia that little bit brighter each day. I’m grateful to the fabulous Vegepod team for showing me how easy it is to... grow my own fresh vegetables. One of the greatest work from home perks is being able to wander out to the backyard at lunch time and harvest what I’ll be eating 5 minutes later! Everything you can see in the pics below was grown from seed in early December, so clearly I'm doing something right! (And yes, those tomatoes will be brought under control this weekend!) I’m grateful to my sons, not only for being generous, kind & wonderful humans, but also for displaying exceptional (& wildly persistent) lobbying skills that resulted in a rescue dog joining our family of 3 in Feb last year. I am now fitter than I’ve ever been and have seen more sunrises in the last 11 months than I have in the last decade! I know we have another massively challenging year ahead of us, but I am genuinely optimistic about the positive difference that we can all make to the lives of the people around us. Bring it on! #leadershiplessons #endhunger #zerohunger #forpurpose #proudtobeafoodbanker #foodbank

24.01.2022 It was such a pleasure to be interviewed for this year's final episode of the Humans of Agriculture podcast. If you haven't yet subscribed to this awesome podcast, now's the perfect time! Oli Le Lievre has been working hard all year to profile the untold, incredible stories of agriculture in Australia, and the fabulous people behind them. If you eat, drink or wear clothes, you should have a healthy interest in Australian agriculture, so add this podcast to your playlist! #zerohunger #podcast #agchatoz #australianagriculture #thankafarmer

23.01.2022 How cool is this?! The environmental scientist (and coffee lover!) in me LOVES this project, which will deliver great outcomes for vulnerable Australians, sustainability and corporate social responsibility alike! If you're a South Australian, get behind this brilliant initiative. People Purpose Planet ... #zerohunger #innovation #sustainability

23.01.2022 This. A thousand times this.

23.01.2022 I wear my heart on my sleeve when it comes to rural and regional Australia, and today is the perfect day to celebrate our wonderful dairy industry! World Milk Day recognises and celebrates the dairy sector’s passion and commitment to feeding our communities, including vulnerable communities right across Australia. Thanks to the generosity and commitment of our milk partners - Saputo, Lion Beverages, LactalisAustralia and Fonterra - not to mention our tireless dairy farmers, we are able to provide access to fresh milk year-round. To every person involved in Australia's world-class dairy industry, THANK YOU. #worldmilkday #enjoydairy #zerohunger

23.01.2022 It was a pleasure to join the News Breakfast team on the weekend to discuss what we have seen and expect to see in terms of the impact of COVID-19 on food insecurity in Australia. I discussed the same issues at a Senate hearing this morning, highlighting the 78% increase in demand for food relief we have experienced in the last few months, and our very real concern that we’re not yet at the peak of food relief demand, especially in areas still recovering from natural dis...aster. There is plenty of commentary to be had on social and policy levers, government expenditure and the current economic climate, but I cannot stress enough how important it is to remember that this is a debate about people. Real people with real families, real hardship, and real concerns about their loved ones. I want those who are vulnerable to know that Foodbank will be right here with you as long as it takes to get back on your feet, and I want every person who supports us with donations of food, funds and expertise to know that we can only do what we do because of you, so THANK YOU. #foodbank #foodbanking #proudtobeafoodbanker #zerohunger #covid19australia

21.01.2022 My heartfelt thanks to each and every one who has thrown their arms around Foodbank in the last few months, helping us respond to drought, then bushfires and now COVID-19. Our emergency response efforts are on top of what we do every day providing food relief to vulnerable Australians. In ‘normal’ circumstances, more than 815,000 people a month rely on the Foodbank Australia network for food assistance. Those numbers are likely to skyrocket as the economic impacts of COVID-...19 start being felt across the country. This really is a perfect storm for Foodbank, as we are facing unprecedented demand for food relief at a time when we are struggling to secure food & groceries. Part of the reason we’re short in some Foodbank warehouses is panic buying. We produce enough food in this country to feed our population 3 times over, so there is really no need to buy in more than a couple of weeks of food and groceries. Together, we can ensure there is enough to go around. If there is one thing you can do to help vulnerable people through this difficult time, it’s to return to your usual shopping patterns so that we can put a stop to the immediate shortages of essential supplies. You can also help by volunteering at a Foodbank warehouse in some states and territories. If you are fit and well, and your employer is happy for you to volunteer, we would be extremely grateful for your help. In some locations we are really struggling to secure enough volunteers and we need 1,000 volunteers a week nationally to ensure we can maintain current levels of food relief. Please visit https://www.foodbank.org.au/support-us/volunteer-with-us/ to register, noting that in some states, there are not shortages, so you may be placed on a wait list. We know that times are tough for many Australians, but if you are in a position to make a financial contribution, we’d love to hear from you at https://www.foodbank.org.au/support-us/make-a-donation/. Your donation will help us secure bulk supplies of essential food and groceries to help meet the growing demand for food relief across the community. During the bushfires, we saw inspiring displays of empathy, generosity and kindness, and that’s what we need now. Please take care of yourself, your loved ones and your community while remembering that we’re all in this together.

21.01.2022 Trying to squeeze 3 months worth of Foodbank news into one bite-sized update isn't easy, but we've done it! Our Spring edition of Source provides highlights of the many important activities underway right across the country, including Foodbank NT's heart-warming trip to east Arnhem Land to deliver crucial breakfast supplies for the Aboriginal Corporation School nutrition program. Look at those smiles!!! You can read the Spring edition of Source at https://foodbankaustralia.c...mail20.com//35093A461F67FFADDDA. #zerohunger #foodrelief #proudtobeafoodbanker #foodbank

18.01.2022 If you're going to be in Sydney on Saturday 7th March, please come along to what promises to be a fabulous event! I'm thrilled to be representing Foodbank Australia as we celebrate International Women's Day. #eachforequal

17.01.2022 It is so inspiring to see legends of football (soccer) like Marcus Rashford using their influence to ensure vulnerable children don’t go hungry. https://www.bbc.com/news/education-54841316 Here in Australia, Weet-Bix ambassador and Socceroos legend Tim Cahill has been a vocal supporter of #Foodbank school breakfast programs, and I’ve seen first-hand the smiles he brings to children’s faces when he busts the stigma & encourages them to come to breakfast club to make sure they... start their school day with full tummies. If you haven’t yet seen it, The Global FoodBanking Network recently released a report on child hunger and child feeding programs, including a case study from Australia, featuring the terrific work of Foodbank WA. This report makes clear the global challenge ahead of us if we are to ensure all children have access to safe, nutritious and culturally appropriate food. https://www.foodbanking.org/childhungerprograms/ To every one of you who supports us - thank you #zerohunger

17.01.2022 Such wonderful generosity from the fabulous team at Unilever, and such a pleasure to be able to share this important donation with our friends at Foodbank Canterbury #foodbanking The Global FoodBanking Network #covid19

17.01.2022 As highlighted in the Foodbank Australia Hunger Report 2020, charities have seen a significant increase in the number of casual employees and international students needing food relief this year. Foodbanks right across the country have been going above and beyond to get essential food and grocery supplies to these groups (and many others!) throughout the pandemic, and many have swiftly introduced new programs and projects to achieve this. The latest is this terrific initiativ...e from the team at Foodbank Victoria, who have just launched a pop-up store for international students, right in the heart of Melbourne. That's one less thing for international students to worry about during these turbulent times #zerohunger #foodbanking #proudtobeafoodbanker #COVID19Vic

17.01.2022 If you're an SBS INSIGHT fan, you'll know what an extraordinary host Jenny Brockie has been. Tonight is her final sign-off, featuring one of her favourite past episodes: Hungry. It was such an honour to be part of the program, but absolutely harrowing to hear the stories of hungry parents not to be able to feed their hungry children. I shed many a tear during filming and these - like so many stories we hear at Foodbank Australia - have stuck with me. If you missed seeing this... important episode the first time around, please tune in tonight - 8:35pm on SBS. #ZeroHunger #Hungry #proudtobeafoodbanker

12.01.2022 When Amit contacted me recently about the plight of Nepalese students across Australia, I was determined to find a way for the Foodbank Australia family to help. I am so grateful to our state/territory teams for continuing to get food relief to those who need it most. Pictured below are Adam and Cassie from Foodbank NSW & ACT, delivering Foodbank hampers

08.01.2022 I was so humbled to be part of such a beautiful 'Good News' segment on The Project last week, highlighting the unsung heroes we have in our communities who go above and beyond to make this time of year special. As we approach the holiday season, we are estimating the number of people we will provide food relief to will reach 1 million, up from our regularly 815,000 per month. If you have a moment to spare, take a look at the segment and feel free to jump on our website at www....foodbank.org.au to see what you can do to make a difference. #ZeroHunger #GoodNews #TheProject #Christmas

08.01.2022 In the midst of the devastating summer bushfires, one of the most extraordinary women I’ll ever meet walked into my life and sprinkled her passion, energy and get shit done magic all over Foodbank. We caught up again last week, hanging out with the fabulous team at Foodbank NSW & ACT and helping pack emergency relief hampers. We’ve got lots of exciting plans in the pipeline, so watch this space!!! So grateful to have you in our world, Lisa Messenger

08.01.2022 It was a pleasure to join some truly extraordinary women at the City of Ryde #eachforequal #internationalwomensday2020 event on the weekend. With women 1.5 times more likely than men to have experienced #foodinsecurity in the last 12 months, events like these are vital to understanding the causes, and the actions we can take at the community level to turn the situation around. Many thanks to Annabelle Daniel, Jane Caro, Margaret Maljkovic, Zara Crichton and Cate Sinclair for... raising such important issues and more importantly, the incredibly important work you are doing to address them. Thanks also to Councillor Penny Pedersen for your leadership and fabulous emceeing. I am so proud to live and work in the City of Ryde, with our Mayor Jerome Laxale - Labor paving the way for Local Government NSW to introduce policies to provide access paid domestic violence leave, now available to 45,000 local government workers across NSW. I just wish it wasn't needed in the first place.

07.01.2022 Our hearts go out to all Victorians, especially those in Melbourne already in hard lockdown and those now facing another six weeks of stage 3. We stand with y...ou. We are here for you. To the fabulous team at Foodbank Victoria, you are doing an incredible job! From horrendous bushfires in summer followed by this COVID-19 pandemic and what feels like constant lockdowns, you have risen to every challenged that has been thrown at you...and more! This team has been working tirelessly for months now, day and night, to make sure the people of Victoria get through these extremely tough days. We stand by you and support you through this difficult period. For anyone in need of emergency food relief, please head to www.foodbank.org.au or www.askizzy.org.au. #ZeroHunger #FoodRelief #COVIDAus #foodbanking #VICLockdown #Thankyou

06.01.2022 Happy New Year! I hope you've had some time to relax and recharge with loved ones. After a quick break, we're back on deck, as committed as ever to ending hunger in the "lucky country". As 2020 drew to a close, we took the opportunity to reflect on what 2020 looked like for the Foodbank team. I'm so proud of what we achieved for vulnerable Australians, despite enormous obstacles. I want to remember 2020 for the glimmers of optimism, generosity and kindness that shone thro...ugh the dark times. Here's a quick summary of what we faced and what we achieved in the year that was :) #endhunger #proudfoodbanker #zerohunger #norumblingtummies #2020wrapup #goodbye2020 #happynewyear #fightinghunger #foodbank

06.01.2022 What a fabulous initiative from Foodbank SA and Port Adelaide Football Club! Home delivery with a sprinkling of Foodbank magic

05.01.2022 There's no doubt the last few months have presented challenges that we could have never anticipated, but some of life's regular challenges have continued on as usual. One of those is waste, whether it be food waste or plastic. If you're not already recycling or re-using your soft plastics, you should be! Now's a great time to start a conversation at home and start changing behaviours for the better. With the REDCYCLE #AustralasianRecyclingLabel on so much packaging now, it co...uldn't be easier! My children and I have a bag bag (yes, a bag full of bags!) in the cupboard at home, and as we grab our reusable grocery bags when we leave the house for groceries, we also grab the bag bag, full of soft plastics. Once it's part of your routine, it's too easy! Please take the soft plastics #recyclechallenge by dropping your soft plastics at your local Coles or Woolworths Supermarkets, and take a photo to encourage others to do the same. It's a small gesture with a big impact.

04.01.2022 In case you missed it, this year is the International Year of Fruits & Vegetables. All of us at Foodbank Australia are delighted to join the United Nations and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in highlighting the important role of fruit & veg in #foodsecurity, #nutrition & #health, and in helping us achieve the Global Goals for Sustainable Development. We have wonderful farmers right across the country who donate delicious fresh fruit and vegetabl...es to #foodbank right throughout the year so that we can help make sure people who are doing it tough have access to what we should all be able to eat each and every day. I love the positive messages in this video, not only about how great fruit & vegetables are for our health, but also the fact that they way they look doesn't matter (no #foodwaste!), and that they are such a rich part of our history, culture and traditions. What's your favourite fruit or vegetable? Do you grow any at home? #zerohunger #waronwasteau #healthyfood #foodrescue #foodrelief #foodwaste #IYFV2021 #foodbank #foodbanking

04.01.2022 As reconciliation week comes to an end for 2020, if this week has taught us anything, the journey to a fully reconciled country and world, never stops. We’re #...InThisTogether as a nation that needs to champion unity and mutual respect. We can all play a role. We can educate ourselves, our children, and our parents. We can build relationships that value Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander peoples, histories and cultures. We can connect with one another. Today, we continue the journey to reconcile our own communities. #ZeroHunger #InThisTogether2020 #NRW2020 #Educate Daria Rosen

01.01.2022 As you can imagine, like so many others, we’ve been extremely busy at Foodbank and I thought it best to put it all on video to explain my absence from socials! From drought and bushfires, to COVID-19 and the devastating effects it has had on our communities, our days have been consistently busy ensuring we source a consistent supply of food and groceries for vulnerable Aussies doing it extremely tough. I also want to highlight that with everything that 2020 has thrown at us, it’s ok to not be ok. There are so many excellent resources available which you can check out here www.headttohealth.gov.au. Never be scared or ashamed to ask for help we do it every day. Thank you for your ongoing support.

01.01.2022 The Foodbank Australia #HungerReport 2020 is out today, revealing that we have by no means reached ‘peak hunger’ in this pandemic. We’ll need up to an extra 2.7m meals/month as #JobSeeker & #JobKeeper taper out.
