20.01.2022 Game 2 tonight saw us take on ACT Griffins. In a very exciting game we kept another shutout in recording a 0-0 tie. Both teams traded plenty of penalties, not out of malice but out of pure desire to compete for their team. We had chances to take the win, but couldn't find a way past the ACT goalie who has a great game. Some saves especially from shots by Shaun Adams and Mark McLennan had to be seen to be believed, and Cory Skilton had a curling shot from the Melbourne City neutral zone go agonisingly wide. Catch us again tomorrow morning from 10:15 for our game against the favourites from NSW.

20.01.2022 We will have some Victorians on the ice for Nationals next month in a combined Queensland/Victoria men's intermediate team, looking to win this competitive division against teams from NSW, SA, and ACT. This will see the Queensland Cyclones and Victoria Thunder team up for the first time. A perfect combo! Keep an eye out for the draw to see when you can come cheers our guys on!

17.01.2022 The 2019 Broomball Australia Nationals are coming to Melbourne in April (24th - 27th) with a meet and greet on the Tuesday night to kick the event off. We are looking to have the sport again represented in Melbourne and the wonderful facility in Reservoir it's new home. To see this happen we are looking for those in Victoria and particularly Melbourne who are interested in being involved. It is recognised we do need a local association to again be the body responsible for r...unning any games and the interface with the rink. We are also looking at the possibility of a team from Vic being involved. We would like to hear from you if you are interested in being involved. Please either pm me or email me at [email protected].

16.01.2022 Our Melbourne City team, runners up in the Men's Intermediate division.

16.01.2022 Melbourne City recorded their second win of the tournament, taking a closely fought 1-0 victory over SA Sharks. We started off slow and struggled to get possession, but took the lead midway through the first period with a heavily deflected and rather fortuitous Cory Skilton goal. Steve Pilchowski took the 'dumb penalty' award, solely to help us practise our penalty kill, the thoughtful captain he is. Next game is tonight at 10:30pm against ACT Griffins, who we tied 0-0 last time. Tune in for all the excitement!

15.01.2022 Game 1 down for Melbourne City... And a 1-0 win over a very experienced SA Sharks team. Goal Don Nordin, assisted by Shaun Adams. Shutout for Jamie Adams. First penalty minutes for Mark "no silly penalties" McLennan. No injuries reported. So all in all, a good start!... Next game this afternoon!

14.01.2022 Ball drops Wednesday morning. Get down to iceHQ to check out some great Aussie Broomball action.

11.01.2022 GRAND FINAL DAY AT ICEHQ iceHQ, Blake Street, Reservoir 4:15pm FREE entry!... https://www.youtube.com/c/broomball/live The 2019 Broomball Australia National Championships reach their climax today with the grand finals from 4:15pm today at iceHQ. We have seen some excellent Broomball this tournament and the grand finals promise to be three great games at this world class arena. Men's Intermediate starts at 4:15 where MELBOURNE CITY take on New South Wales. City are out to provide a major shock against the firm favourites from Penrith as they look to end their tournament on a high. Women's Elite is set for 5:00 where NSW take on ACT. The round robin games between the two provided great entertainment and drama and showcased the world class women we have playing the sport in this country. At 5:45 the Men's Elite final takes place, NSW v ACT. NSW are looking for revenge after losing their title last year, and it promises to be a close, physical encounter between the two powerhouses of Australian men's Broomball. Get on down to iceHQ to watch some quality Broomball, or if you can't make it, tune into the YouTube Livestream from 4:15.

11.01.2022 Are you interested in playing Men's Intermediate for Victoria at Nationals in Melbourne, April 24-27? If so post here. If we can get a roster of 9-10 we might be able to get a team. Some things to consider: - you'd need to be available all the 4 days, or most ... - we would need to source Broomball equipment for you. Hockey protective gear is okay to use. - games are checking (ie. Checking) - you'll need to pay for a jersey too Tag any friends or ex players if you think that they will be interested. If we can't get enough for a team I'm happy to try to organise for individuals to get placed with other teams.

08.01.2022 Game 6: Melbourne City 1-3 NSW Sliders With both teams already qualified for Saturday's Grand Final, this was a dry run. We rested Brian Korsman and his grapefruit-sized knees and looked to contain the NSW threat without overexerting ourselves. NSW started strong and took an early lead thanks to a wicked deflection off Mark McLennan as Jamie Adams cruelly lost his streak of shutouts. They made it 2-0 later in the first period as we struggled to assert ourselves. ... We improved our tempo in the second period and, after going 3-0 down to a turnover in defence, we pressed them hard and dominated possession. Our goal came off a well worked powerplay, Cory Skilton smashing one into the roof of the net off an assist by Matt Winter. The rest of the game fizzled out as both teams played within themselves. We meet again in Saturday's Grand Final, 4:15 start. Don't miss it. See more

08.01.2022 Game 5: Melbourne City 1-0 ACT Griffins A third win of the tournament and a fifth consecutive shutout for our team as we recorded yet another solid 1-0 win. We had plenty of chances to make the game safer, but full credit to the ACT goalie and their defensive efforts. The goal came in the first period after sustained offensive pressure forced a turnover, and Cory Skilton had time and space to run at net and place a low shot, scoring through the five-hole. ... Just the one game tomorrow for us as we prepare for an unlikely tilt at the Grand Final!

07.01.2022 MELBOURNE CITY FINISH RUNNERS-UP IN MEN'S INTERMEDIATE DIVISION The trio of grand finals at the National Championships got off to a cracking start with a pulsating and exciting game between the top two teams from Men's Intermediate, favourites NSW Sliders taking on the combined Queensland and Victoria team, Melbourne City. NSW prevailed in a penalty shootout after 30 minutes of regular time and 5 minutes of sudden death overtime couldn't separate the two teams. Melbourne Cit...Continue reading

04.01.2022 Game 3 this morning saw us take on the favourites from NSW. Our defence worked tirelessly throughout the game and we came away with a very creditable 0-0 tie. We had a late chance to win it but no luck. For now, we have 1 win and 2 ties and are yet to concede a goal, an awesome achievement considering a number of our guys haven't played in a long (long long) time and the Townsville guys play on small ice. ... Two more games today before the last round robin game tomorrow. Catch us on the live streaming to ensure you don't miss a second of the action! 6:45 and 10:30 tonight. https://www.youtube.com/c/broomball/live Go Melbourne City!!

03.01.2022 COMPETITION PROPOSAL - PLEASE READ BV is looking to run a competition in primetime Saturday night hours in January and February next year. We are proposing the competition will run for 6-7 weeks, will include some training ice and games (possibly with set teams), and be more structured than the one-off sessions we have previously offered. However, to have the capital to lock in this ice time, we would need to charge players up front for this time. We are proposing a cost of... $110 (6 weeks) or $130 (7 weeks). This money would be paid up front to BV, and would cover your ice time for the entire competition, as well as BV equipment hire (shoes, brooms; knee/shin and elbow pads coming soon too). How many would be interested in a competition along these lines? Paying up front is similar to what is offered by IHV and seems to work quite well. We would need commitments from at least 15 people to make this work, otherwise we won't have the money to cover the sessions. Payment plans can be negotiated for those who may not be able to pay the full amount up front, and we can negotiate prices for those who can't commit to every week. Let us know what you think. An e-mail on this will be going out next week. Commitments will be sought by the first weeks of January.
