25.01.2022 For the planet's sake and our own, we can't keep exporting coal at this rate! Join the blockade of the world's biggest coal port.

25.01.2022 Australia has for years buddied up with Donald Trump to be blockers on global climate action. With Trump gone, the world is now poised to take a huge step forward on climate, and we can’t be left behind.

24.01.2022 Today, Coalfields for Climate Action together with Knitting Nannas from Gloucester, Mid North Coast and the Hunter, sent Joel Fitzgibbon a clear message: NO TO GAS! No gas plant in Kurri and no gas in Narrabri! Listen to your community and to the science! #FundOurFutureNotGas #FridaysForFuture

24.01.2022 Hopefully a sign of things to come in NSW come September next year...

23.01.2022 Darn right failure's not an option. Morrison and Taylor seem to be giving it a red hot go though.

23.01.2022 Another reason for getting out of coal fired generation.

22.01.2022 100% renewable energy - where there's a will there's a way!

21.01.2022 Type in your number plate and State and see if your vehicle is affected by the recall on dangerous Takata airbags.

21.01.2022 When did your postie get a Cartier watch, just for doing their job?

21.01.2022 Cessnock City Council has just joined the Cities Power Partnership - maybe they'll be up for a prize next year? Register to see great climate action ideas from Councils around the country.

21.01.2022 Joel says we can protect our environment without unnecessarily destroying local jobs. While ever these jobs result in burning fossil fuels, we are destroying future generations chance of a safe climate future. It's high time Joel worked to get some 21st century jobs into Cessnock and Kurri, not a gas-fired dinosaur! #FundOurFutureNotGas

20.01.2022 Appealing to their base 12 months out from an election...

20.01.2022 Farmers are coming on board for climate action - pls sign!

20.01.2022 Insanity! People pay good money to come and see trees and forests like this.

19.01.2022 Have your say about what sort of development you want to see in Cessnock!

19.01.2022 The NSW Government has recently designated an area directly adjacent to the historic village of Wollombi as a potential area for release for coal exploration. This policy will create unacceptable conflicts between the established land uses of tourism, grape growing, wine making, bushwalking and indigenous cultural activities, and that of coal mining. Please sign the online petition asking the Premier for mining to be prohibited near Wollombi: https://www.gopetition.com//no-n...ew-coal-for-wollombi-or-br Please share to your local networks!

19.01.2022 If you can read, you can do anything!

18.01.2022 Tune in for the budget briefing tonight!

18.01.2022 Good to see some facilities for young people going in at Millfield!

18.01.2022 Gas is not the answer! Please sign and share.

18.01.2022 Find out how to close the loop on building products! Monday Oct 26th - Greens on Screens.

17.01.2022 Please fill out the syrvey!

17.01.2022 "The key finding of Samuel’s interim report was that Australia’s environment is in an unsustainable decline." And the LNP Government are doing nothing to halt the decline!

17.01.2022 MASSIVE: A Greens amendment has just secured $50m for green hydrogen! This is a huge jobs boost for regional NSW, kickstarting the green hydrogen economy and ou...r renewable revolution. ICYMI, green hydrogen is an energy source made entirely from water, with wind and solar, and it’s essential to our global fight against the climate crisis.

17.01.2022 If you're a Wollombi local, make sure you call in to the Corner Block today to have your say on coal exploration less than 1km from the tavern!

17.01.2022 Listen in to the Inquiry today - what cost clean water and safe fish in Lake Macquarie? "Costs for remediation of sites containing coal ash repositories" This inquiry was established on 1 October 2019 to inquire into and report on the costs for remediation of coal ash repositories in New South Wales. ... Lake Macquarie public hearing - 6 October 2020 The public hearing in Lake Macquarie on Tuesday 6 October will be live streamed via the following link, courtesy of Lake Macquarie City Council: https://teams.microsoft.com//19%3ameeting_YzcxZDQ0MjYtM/0

16.01.2022 The final report of the Bushfire Royal Commission is out today. Any plan to tackle bushfires in Australia needs to address climate change! Help get this important message out: post a photo at 11 - there's still time!

16.01.2022 Kurri has an older population than NSW, with 19.9% aged 65 and over compared with 16.2% for NSW. There are 3.5% aged 85 and over in Kurri compared with 2.2% in NSW. Motor vehicle crash hospitalisations in Cessnock LGA are about 45% higher than the State average. ... 8% of households have no car and trust me, it's not because the public transport is fantastic. This is not a community that can afford reduced local rehabilitation services!

16.01.2022 It seems the Greens are in tune with the UN, while Morrison still thinks he can turn back the tide. "To mark the fifth anniversary of the Paris Agreement on climate change, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson are co-hosting an online event in December "to rally momentum and call for much greater climate action and ambition"."

16.01.2022 Unfortunately, none of these pollies seem to have grasped the fact we're in a climate crisis with 10 years to take definitive action. Gas is not the answer - it might have been 10 years ago when renewables were relatively expensive, but that time has passed. We need serious investment in renewables and smarter ways to store it. It doesn't look like we'll get that from this Government - don't tell me the uni will have to resort to crowd funding to get their innovations up and running!

15.01.2022 Good work from David Shoebridge to get ICAC the money it needs to do its job properly!

15.01.2022 The Green wave surges once more, with the Queensland Greens securing at least one more lower house seat, double digit swings and setting up a new base for progr...essives in Brisbane! This is an incredible victory for the Queensland Greens, and for every volunteer who spent countless hours fighting for a fairer Queensland. Right now, people are seeing their futures sold off to bolster fossil fuel profits, and they’re sick of seeing our mining companies shipping wealth offshore. The establishment parties are now on notice. This Greens surge in the ACT, and now in Queensland, shows that people want big corporations to pay their fair share of tax to fund a green recovery and action on the climate, jobs, and inequality crises. This incredible campaign has cemented the Greens as the highly competitive third force in Queensland politics. There’s a large swathe of Brisbane electorates where we’re now polling in the high 20s, setting up a good foundation for major gains at the next state and federal elections! Geeking out over the numbers Amy MacMahon roared home to victory with a 9.4% swing, showing that voters will reward a party that genuinely believes in a transition away from dirty coal, oil, and gas towards a 100% renewable future, and Michael Berkman’s 14% increase in primary vote shows that when Greens win seats, we make for good local members. With these results, you’d imagine that Brisbane-based establishment party Federal MPs are growing increasingly concerned about the rising Greens vote. They should be. This puts the Greens in a very strong position for the next federal election. Double digit swings to the Greens didn’t come easy. It's the result of a *massive* people-powered campaign with thousands of volunteers and tens of thousands of doors knocked. These massive swings to the Greens, coupled with the complete collapse of One Nation, show that Queensland’s status as a so-called 'conservative heartland' is utter crap. By advancing a strong, progressive agenda, the Greens have now overtaken One Nation as the third force in Queensland politics.

15.01.2022 We better be careful the next time we protest in our koala masks!

15.01.2022 If this is 1.4 degrees hotter, be afraid. It can only get worse with more coal and gas.

15.01.2022 "I am urging our trading partners to send Australia a clear signal that they are moving to a zero-pollution society and our thermal coal has a use-by date, he said." I think our trading partners have already done this, by declaring net zero emissions targets by 2050 or 2060 - our politicians are just too arrogant to accept it. They're doing coal mining communities no favours by clinging to the past, instead of actively cultivating the jobs of the future.

14.01.2022 "The failures included not assessing how flooding or changed hydrology might affect the platypus and echidna, and inadequately examining how the sight of dead trees and shrubs would affect views of the world heritage area from numerous lookout points." We've pushed koalas to near-extinction - could we not learn from that and not repeat the process with platypus and echidnas?

14.01.2022 Please support Council's Christmas Appeal if you can. Donations will be accepted up until Wednesday, December 16 and can be dropped off at council's administration building and Cessnock and Kurri Kurri libraries.

13.01.2022 Gas madness on a warming planet!

13.01.2022 Don't be shy - get along for some mental health support AND a cupcake! These are difficult times for many - tell your friends!

13.01.2022 It's not too late! Write your message "FUND OUR FUTURE NOT GAS", take a photo of you holding it and send to [email protected] for inclusion in the video to be released tomorrow!

12.01.2022 I can't believe this Council has just joined the Cities Power Partnership to explore innovative climate solutions, yet has voted unanimously to support a gas fired power station in Kurri! I know that Council always supports anything that might provide jobs, but they've got a bad record of backing the wrong horse. They should have asked Scomo exactly how many jobs this plant would provide, and for how long. Neither Matt Kean nor the Australian Energy Market Operator see a big ...future in gas. #FundOurFutureNotGas #FridaysForFuture

12.01.2022 Good opportunity to talk to a number of people we wouldn't otherwise have spoken to... none of them keen on a gas plant in Kurri! Or coal exploration at Wollombi. #FundOurFutureNotGas Joel Fitzgibbon MP Scott Morrison (ScoMo)... Anthony Albanese Meryl Swanson MP See more

12.01.2022 Our reps are Joel Fitzgibbon and Meryl Swanson - make a sign to let them know people from their electorate want climate action.

12.01.2022 Morrison's gas fired power station doesn't seem to have many supporters, except our Local Member, Joel Fitzgibbon!

11.01.2022 Don't load the trailer on Friday - leave it till Saturday!

11.01.2022 What we've got isn't working too well - time for a change??

09.01.2022 Time to #FundOurFutureNotGas!

08.01.2022 Join this zoom to hear what we can do to fight for planet A!

08.01.2022 Cessnock Kurri Greens had a great day out today. We enjoyed an Aboriginal Cultural tour of important sites around Wollombi. Leanne, our tour guide explained the significance of Aboriginal carvings and paintings in the area and some of those we saw today were created more than 20,000 years ago. We enjoyed a picnic lunch with accompaniment from a chorus of very loud cicadas. We also took the opportunity to thank, and say farewell to Kaitlyn Williams who is moving to Armidale.

07.01.2022 The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act is not working - we have the highest mammal extinction rate in the world! The Act is under review - listen to the recommendations - it's your job to protect our unique species! #beforeitsgone ... Scott Morrison (ScoMo) Sussan Ley MP Meryl Swanson MP See more

07.01.2022 This should be a no-brainer, even to Morrison! Please sign and share.

07.01.2022 Particularly in Councils and Parliaments!

07.01.2022 What's not to like?

06.01.2022 Not a lot in here for Cessnock - $3m to upgrade the airport. No affordable housing, no upgrade to Kurri Hospital, while the new Maitland Hospital gets a $30m carpark, no serious money for the M1 to Raymond Terrace bypass, no new money for the Fassifern to Hexham freight rail bypass. If we can't get major projects up now while the Government is spending money to create jobs, will we ever see serious change in the Coalfields? What about the Hunter LinkRail proposal to connect Kurri to Maitland and Glendale by rail?

06.01.2022 The theme of this year's schoolstrike4climate is suddenly very relevant to us here in Cessnock and Kurri, with the PM announcing we're going to get a gas fired power plant at Kurri. We want our Government to help us negotiate the transition from coal to renewables and a more diversified economy, not to saddle us with another fossil fuel with a looming use-by date! Join the Day of Action - it's easy:... - write a sign "FUND OUR FUTURE NOT GAS" - take a photo, with the sign - send it to [email protected] - we'll add it to a compilation and deliver the message to local Member Joel Fitzgibbon Watch the online rally and see if we make the cut!

06.01.2022 Some movement in the right direction...

05.01.2022 Another local good news story! From miner to doctor to Professor - how's that for a successful transition!

04.01.2022 Good on you David - police are not above the law.

04.01.2022 Seriously, who does this? Allows the drinking water catchment to be undermined - apparently our NSW Planning system! It's going to the Independent Planning Commission - have your say before December 15 - tell them it's not worth the risk!

03.01.2022 Call in to Horseshoe Beach any time tomorrow to show support for the blockade of Newcastle Harbour! You don't have to be on a kayak in the harbour - support others who are and bring your signs and banners!

03.01.2022 Great opportunity to buy an artwork depicting an endangered animal and raise money for Aussie Ark, breeding a reserve population of Tassie Devils in Barrington Tops.

03.01.2022 Tassie is 100% renewable! Tasmania joins the ACT, as the only two Australian jurisdictions sourcing all of their electricity from renewable energy sources, and places Tasmania alongside countries like Scotland, Iceland and Costa Rica which have also made the transition to 100 per cent renewable electricity https://reneweconomy.com.au/tasmania-declares-itself-100-/

03.01.2022 Let's hope it's a sign of things to come!

02.01.2022 Adam explains the Budget - time to kick the LNP out!

02.01.2022 This is why we need a new Federal Member who recognises where the future of the energy industry is. We also need a massive Federally funded Just Transition program that sees everyone working in the coal and gas industry retrained and employed in the renewable energy industry, either in manufacturing or maintenance.

02.01.2022 Santos Narrabri Gas project has just been approved by the IPC, at a time when we need to be reducing our emissions. Join the online rally Monday to express your outrage and hear where to next.

01.01.2022 Find the Kurri kookaburra...

01.01.2022 I’m proud to stand for a party focused on ending domestic violence and abuse. See more below.

01.01.2022 Offshore gas? No way!
