17.01.2022 MISO DENGAKU RECIPE Following on our silent movie ;) A glaze for grilled eggplant, tofu, or daikon... Some of the most notable Japanese folk arts in Japan have sprung from rice festivals. The field drama called dengaku, musical accompaniment to rites of rice-planting, is said to come from playful field rituals with drums, song and dance that were performed just before planting. This dance was imagined to inspire an abundant harvest. Dengaku was closely linked with Shinto, the religion of Japan that sees the divine in all aspects of Nature. Ingredients: 1 small eggplant, or 2 Japanese eggplants 1/4 cup dashi 1 tablespoon mirin 1 tablespoon sake 2 teaspoons sugar 1 tablespoon miso 1 tablespoon oil Chopped green onion and sesame seed for garnish Optional sesame seeds, yuzu zest, shiso or kinome leaves. Method: Slice eggplant in half, then cut the surface in a criss cross pattern. Brush the surface with oil, then bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 45 minutes until the eggplant is tender. Bring dashi, mirin, sake and sugar and bring to a gentle boil. Add miso and whisk to blend. Remove from heat. Remove eggplant from oven, then turn the broiler on. Brush eggplant with sauce, and sprinkle with sesame. Broil for a few minutes until the sauce has caramelized. Remove from oven and garnish with green onion. Enjoy!

11.01.2022 I made these agnostic hot x buns... they were delicious and took at least half a day of isolation time to make, ideal! I noticed and really liked how taking more time to do something felt like a positive rather than a negative thing, now vs before coronavirus where efficient productive living was valued more than slowness. Are you noticing what it feels like to slow down in this current #stayathome world? Let us know how youre going with it Lucy

10.01.2022 IS IT SPRING OR NOT? Happy first day of Spring according to the Australian calendar! It feels good to move to a new season, a more vibrant season as we get closer to the end of the current lockdown as we know it.... Is it really the first day of Spring? Not quite. For 2 reasons: theres always a transition period between each season which corresponds to the Earth element spring equinox is on the 22nd September which is a more sensible date to start Spring. Either way, today did feel like Spring and you hopefully have a little or big spring in your step. If not, theres absolutely no problems with that, we are slowly transitioning so take your time. After the stillness of Winter, Spring brings movement. Nature is coming to life, sprouting, blossoming. Spring's energy flows upwards. Its associated emotion is Anger which allows for clarity, organisation, decision making, action taking and much more. Spring is the season associated with Liver and Gall Bladder and is the most beneficial time to support the Wood element. When in harmony the Liver ensures the free flow of qi throughout the body. Qi is the Energy or Life Force that animates the body and all living beings. Qi guides the flow of nourishment (blood, fluids, oxygen, nutrients) to all parts of the body. The Liver can be compared to the Conductor of an orchestra directing the flow of qi/music throughout the body/orchestra, and ensuring harmony is maintained. Smell the flowers!

03.01.2022 We stand in solidarity with all racialised people around the world and recognise their basic human right to live their lives without state sanctioned and funded violence. We want to acknowledge the violence that the First Nations communities of this land have experienced and continue to experience at the hands of policing and the criminal justice system. We acknowledge that this violence has been happening for generations, and that to make a statement at this time is somethi...ng we at Coshico have questioned in ourselves, why now and not another time? We acknowledge that we are responding due to the growing local and global protest movement against unjust systems of policing gaining pace. In this time we know it is important to express support and solidarity because, If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor - Desmond Tutu.
