22.01.2022 Our small black herd is slowly growing in size.

22.01.2022 Our young bull is growing up. His short summer coat helps show off his muscling. His horns are beautifully level with a slight rise at the tips.

22.01.2022 Tanned Scottish Highland Cattle hides available, reddish-brown in colour. For details visit https://www.cruachan.com.au/sale.htm

21.01.2022 Black heifer at 20 months of age

21.01.2022 Our Highland Cattle Hides went very quickly and we are now sold out.

20.01.2022 When it’s raining hard cattle love to dig into their bale of hay to find the dry stuff. The Who me! reaction of this young heifer when she was caught in the act was quite amusing, though I doubt the photos truly capture it.

20.01.2022 We are often asked if our area is still drought affected. The answer is yes, we are into our third year. Half our farm is irrigated the other half is dry country. Like most people we have had to reduce numbers and those in our herd that would normally be on dry country need supplementary feeding as our irrigation cannot handle our full herd. We are lucky as we have had access to fodder at reasonable prices ... many have not had that opportunity. The Australian Highland Cattle Society is sponsoring a Go Fund Me Page (scroll down to see the post) to help those breeders that are really struggling, both with drought and fires. It closes at the end of the month.

16.01.2022 These steers got a last minute treat before heading off to their new home.

16.01.2022 We are still trying to catch up with the backlog on our waiting lists, and hope to do so next calving season. In the meantime the last of this seasons calves will soon be weaned and on the way to their new homes.

15.01.2022 Hand feeding before they leave for their new homes. These are the last to go for this year.

13.01.2022 Many hobby farmers are also struggling throughout the country due to the drought. Trevor Perry has started a great initiative to help those with Highland Cattle. See below ...

11.01.2022 The cattle are growing their winter coats

09.01.2022 Santa dropped off some goodies for the cattle!

08.01.2022 After a poor Spring and a very hot, dry Summer our irrigation is finally catching up and the cattle are regaining their condition.

03.01.2022 Our new black sire at 24 months old. Our aim is to have a small herd of totally black Highlands which will be separate from our main herd.

02.01.2022 Half of our farm is irrigated as can be seen by the grass in the last post. The other half is "dry country" which has been affected by the current drought.

01.01.2022 With the recent hot weather into the mid-thirties the cattle have cast their winter coats.
