25.01.2022 New friends joined us today for our April school holiday program. These kids are learning the most important lessons in life. A fun week ahead

25.01.2022 What an inspirational and resilient young woman with grit

24.01.2022 Mental health, just like physical health, is something we ALL have and need to maintain.

24.01.2022 Untamed parenting is teaching (more importantly: modeling) that feeling deeply and expressing those feelings honestly IS brave. Letting your heart be seen IS br...ave. If you are sad or angry -- that’s because you’re paying attention. Sensitivity is a superpower. The opposite of sensitive is not brave! The opposite of sensitive is insensitive. No Medal of Honor. KNOW THIS and make sure your kids know this. Make sure your boys know. The world is taming them -- insisting they hide their humanity -- and it’s hurting them and all of us. Brave and Soft. Fire and Water. Strong and Weak. Loud and silent. We can be everything. We ARE everything. Don’t tame kids into cages of femininity or masculinity- let them be human and whole and free. Love, G Thank you, Parenting Works for this artful addition to Gina & Mercer Mayer’s children’s book Just Lost

23.01.2022 Good mental health is vital for learning.

22.01.2022 Our Term 2 Program is filling quickly with limited positions available. Enrol via our website www.getgritprogram.com or call Michele 0413245531.

22.01.2022 Gently challenge your child’s negative self-talk by asking them: I’m curious: What makes you say that about yourself? Does anyone you know feel the same way you do? What would need to change about that issue for you to feel differently?

21.01.2022 We received a lovely testimony from our Term 1 Program today :) What you have created with Get Grit is amazing. In 5 weeks, your course really got through to Jack and provided him with confidence, together with strategies for dealing with tricky situations. The journal work allowed us a real insight into how we can also support his journey. It couldn’t have come at a better time. Thank you! Jack is actually now missing it and wanted to go last weekend! Thank you for your kind words

20.01.2022 We know COVID-19 has been tough on the mental health of everyone, including kids. The 'Get a GRIP on Anxiety' Program is an online self-paced program that teaches children how to manage and take control of their anxiety to bring back a sense of calm and promote positive mental health. 18.01.2022 Walk 30km or 60 km for mental health

18.01.2022 We received another beautiful testimony today. The lessons children learn in our program are lessons for life. I was so happy to hear that the whole family benefited from the program. This has made my day. Thank you :) My 6 year old daughter was lucky enough to do the Get Grit course this year after I’d noticed her self talk had become slightly negative and her general resilience in school and with friends had lessened. I can not speak more highly of the course and the jo...urnal she received. We did the chapters of the journal together at dinner time as a family and included my 4 year old daughter in the conversations. There were so many gentle reminders for us as adults throughout the journal and my husband and I loved the conversations. Articulating emotions and normalising every emotion has been a gift for our family and improved our communication. The course itself was excellent and referring back to the journal in the months since has been very helpful. My daughter’s negative self talk and self confidence has improved significantly. I’m very grateful to Michele for developing such an important course that all kids would benefit from. See more

17.01.2022 An eggciting announcement! . . . Get GRIT is now available as a self-paced, interactive online course! I started this project at the end of last year with the aim to have it completed by Easter and I've done it! I also quit sugar for Lent - so Easter for me can't come fast enough. Maybe I have more time on my hands NOT eating chocolate! I am super excited to launch the online program so that kids around the globe can access our program. ... There are ten modules in our online program with pre-recorded, interactive video lessons of me teaching kids the most important lessons in life. Children will receive a digital copy of Get GRIT's journal which reinforces the concepts learned in the video lessons. Parents receive parent overviews with additional activities to complete at home. The program can be accessed in the comfort of your own home, at your own pace and at a convenient time for your family. The program is aimed for children aged 5-8 years (I will start working on our 9-12 year program after Easter). Check it out at https://www.getgritprogram.com/onlineprogram

15.01.2022 I’m raising average kids. They will not be going pro in any sport. They will not be the valedictorian. They will not be landing on the moon. And they will not b...e President. But I pray that they will be extraordinary at love. They will be the friend who makes homemade soup and delivers it when a family loses a loved one. They will always return their grocery carts. They will mow their neighbor’s lawn or shovel their snow-filled driveway just because. They will know how to listenespecially to those who need it most. They will make time to return phone calls. They will still send cards on birthdays. They will know how to forgive. They will be empathy givers. They will know how to say, I’m sorry. They will know how to act vulnerable and cry in someone else’s arms. Oh, and this one’s importantthey’ll know how to love themselves by giving themselves grace, love, time off, and setting boundaries. Yup. I’m raising average kids. Average kids who will be extraordinary at LOVE.

14.01.2022 ‘’The human brain is designed not only to learn but also to decide what, when, and how it will learn. When we trust young children enough to ask and answer their own questions and to explore their strong and abiding passions, each student reveals what their brain has decided it most needs or wants to learn’’.

13.01.2022 Yes Let children play! It’s so important for their social and emotional development. Finland’s insight can boost grades and learning for all students, as well as their social growth, emotional development, health, wellbeing and happiness. It can be boiled down to a single phrase: let children play.

12.01.2022 When it comes to happiness and success in life, EQ matters more than an IQ. Emotional intelligence (otherwise known as emotional quotient or EQ) is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict. Emotional intelligence helps you build stronger relationships, succeed at school and work, and achieve your career and personal goals.

12.01.2022 Time for some lessons in life . . .... We all want the same thing for our children. That is for them to be happy. What does a life of happiness look like? A life of happiness looks very similar to a life of unhappiness. Both are filled with challenges, hurdles to conquer, hardships, disappointments and failures. Happiness is not a life without hurdles or setbacks or challenges. But rather a life of happiness is a life where we are able to tackle life’s challenges and setbacks with optimism, grit and grow from adversity. Happiness involves a set of skills, which can be learned, nurtured and strengthened with immediate benefits to our mental health, our learning and our relationships. These skills are often referred to as our Emotional Intelligence. Developing a child’s emotional intelligence plays a vital role in raising happy, resilient and well-adjusted kids. Mastering the essential skills in life lays a strong foundation for learning, relationships and citizenship critical for success in school and beyond. Emotional intelligence is possibly the most valuable skills you can acquire. The Get GRIT Program empowers kids with the knowledge and skills to live their best lives. www.getgritprogram.com/onlineprogram

11.01.2022 ''When worry and anxiety hits, sometimes it's just not possible to find a quiet place where you can ride the wave. But this breathing technique can be done anywhere by anyone of just about any age! Have you tried 4-7-8 breathing?''

09.01.2022 'Gossip isn’t a weapon only used by teens. It is used at every age, in every social class, all over the world. It is insidious. It is easy to initiate, difficult to counter and it can devastate the target. From an early age, we learn to recognise the power of gossip and as much as we all fear it, we have all been guilty of participating. Knowing how to stop gossip is an invaluable skill. It is not easy for a young person to take control of a situation and do that, especially if they do not have a lot of social influence.'

08.01.2022 ‘’When children’s behaviour does not meet our expectations is not so much wrong or bad it is mainly about children being children, with a child’s mind and depth of experience. If a child’s behaviour is inconvenient to us as an adult, it too is not bad or wrong it is merely a normal part of the developmental journey of a child growing to be an adult. Next time if you’re frustrated and angry about your child’s behaviour, pause, take a deep breath and see if you can view that behaviour through the eyes of a child’s’’. Well worth a read. Thanks Maggie Dent

06.01.2022 Hugh Jackman you can have a teaching position with us any day

06.01.2022 Absolutely % agree. My biggest fear for any four year old child starting school is the impact it may have on their self-efficacy and mindset. ‘’With boys' development being slower than girls before birth and in these early years, I meet many a mum who's concerned because her three-and a-half-year-old daughter is running rings around her 5-year-old son. This same boy by around eight tends to catch up if he is not forced to do things that he's developmentally unable to do, no...r has he had repeated struggling experiences. Psychologist and researcher Professor Carol Dweck researched mindsets with 4-year-olds and found that a significant number of them had already decided that they were smart or dumb, or good or bad! Not only that, but day after day his self-worth barometer is emptied. Repeated failure will trigger any little boy to display distress in the only language he knows his behaviour’’. See more

05.01.2022 ‘To help boys process emotions in a productive way, schools need to destigmatize mental health challenges. When social and emotional skills are infused into the entire curriculumnot just taught in health classesboys feel more comfortable opening up’.

04.01.2022 I was asked this week if you can play soccer without feet . I’m getting a lot of hard questions at the moment with Miss 3 and Mr 5. Have you been asked a hard question of late?

02.01.2022 'Every year Smiling Mind checks in on the mental health of the nation through our State of Mind survey, supported by nib foundation This year we found more than half of young Aussies are experiencing anxiety and stress, and a third report that their mental health has worsened since COVID-19'.

01.01.2022 Bringing back a sense of CALM. We know COVID-19 has been tough on the mental health of everyone, including kids. For some children the challenges presented last year and continue to present have brought feelings like anxiety, fear, stress and uncertainty. The good news is that there is a lot we can be doing to support them. ... We have created a Digital Care Package for Kids. Download your copy for FREE. https://www.getgritprogram.com/carepackage
