25.01.2022 Community event.

24.01.2022 A massive THANK YOU to Adrian Arlt, Jordans dad who donated some plumbing pipes for the children to play and explore with. We are intrigued to see what play develops across the Centre and photos will follow. #families #supportive

24.01.2022 Yesterday the Toddler children had a Masterclass where they made and decorated heart-shaped cookies. The Masterclass started off with Miss Linda talking to the children to let them know what they were going to make and how they going to make it. Then Miss Linda made a point of chatting to the Toddlers about the need to wash their hands before they started but they also had to remember that they couldnt touch their faces or put their fingers in their mouths because their han...ds needed to stay clean because they were going to touch food. The Toddler children washed their hands and sat quietly at the table while they waited for Miss Linda to get organised. The Toddlers were very good at not touching their faces at all and Miss Linda didnt have to tell any of them to go wash their hands again. First, the Toddlers helped cream the butter and sugar together, then Miss Linda added the egg replacer and the flour. Then the Toddlers all got to stir the ingredients together. After all the ingredients were mixed, Miss Linda turned out the dough onto the table, but the dough was still a bit sticky, so she added more flour and talked about the texture and how it was changing. When the dough was ready the Toddler children took turns in rolling out the dough ready to cut out the cookies. Then the Toddlers again took turns to use the heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out each individual cookie. Using the lifter Miss Linda placed the cookies onto a prepared cookie tray. Then Di the Cook baked the cookies in the oven for the Toddler children to enjoy for afternoon tea. Children develop understandings of themselves and their world through active, hands-on investigation. A supportive active learning environment encourages childrens engagement in learning which can be recognised as deep concentration and complete focus on what captures their interests. Children bring their being to their learning. They have many ways of seeing the world, different processes of learning and their own preferred learning styles.

23.01.2022 Meet the Team - Chef Di

23.01.2022 In the Pre-Kindy we extended Easter and the investigation of eggs combining this with the children's interest in Dinosaur eggs. We made dino eggs by grating chalk onto shaving foam. We then pressed our egg paper onto the mix and lifted it off. We discovered beautiful marbled eggs. Using light chalk we discovered that the colours were very light on the paper, and it was actually better to drag the paper off as it created a brighter colour impression. (Thursday) We are extending this again by using food colouring dropped onto shaving cream on Friday. We have loved talking about dinosaurs and learning how to say names like Apatosaurus, Stegasaurus, omnivore (meat-eater), carnivore (plant-eater) and more. We are also enjoying the scientific discussions about dinosaurs and art processes. We explored fossils and read stories too.

23.01.2022 Plumbing pipe investigation continues.... Owen was found exploring the pipes, tipping sand into the end of a pipe that was standing up in the sand. He used the connecting pipe to scoop the sand. When asked where the sand had gone, Owen showed the Educator by lifting the pipe up allowing for the sand to fall out. Owen continued his play repeating this over and over developing his manipulation and hand-eye coordination skills.

23.01.2022 A huge thank you to Big W at Seaford for the donation of books. We will be happy to share the love by giving each child a book to take home and older siblings will be able to access books too at the front desk in our "Help Yourself" display. Any leftover books will be passed to the Salvos store opposite us here at Seaford Meadows. #communitymatters

22.01.2022 Thought for the week....

22.01.2022 Wow!! Please take a look at the amazing results that Chef Sia has created. We can't wait for the summer menu to be implemented next week.

21.01.2022 A huge thank you to all our families that made donations of food to our community food trolley. We decided to support Chris Picton's food drive for FoodBank SA as it has been a tough year all round. Dee and Lynn dropped off a box of food items and also donated a bag of wrapped gifts for local children who are less fortunate.... #communitymatters

21.01.2022 Caring for our environment. The children were very eager to help Miss Dee water the new tomato plants. They then noticed that the vegetable garden was a little dry, despite the rain at the weekend, so they had a turn at watering the strawberries and sunflowers. #littlehelpers

20.01.2022 The Book of Mistakes by Corinna Luyken - Kindy The Transition to School Program offers plenty of opportunities for Kindy children to develop different ways of thinking and another approach to learning. The storybook, The Book of Mistakes by Corinna Luyken talks about how mistakes can set your imagination free. How do mistakes help us to learn, and explore new pathways?... The school children have been exploring this book further within the program. This week the children were part of a specific activity related to the book and what mistakes look like to them, how things can evolve into new learning. This activity was later placed on the table for the children to explore independently with friends through free play. Whether it involves developing friendships, focusing in class or playing a sport, learning is enriched through error. Learning from mistakes is part of how we challenge ourselves to learn to do things differently. It motivates us to try new, innovative approaches to problem-solving. Throughout a lifetime, learning from mistakes helps develop wisdom and good judgment.

20.01.2022 Looking for a free activity to do during the school holidays? Why not try this virtual workshop!!

20.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day Remember to meaningfully connect with the people around you, check in on friends, family, co-workers and special others in your life to ask the question, not just today but everyday: R U OK? One conversation could change a life. To find out more about R U OK? Day head to https://www.ruok.org.au.

19.01.2022 The Nursery children are investigating playdough which had strawberry essence in it. The smell was delicious!! They then used Christmas stampers to create marks in the dough observing what they had created. The Educators supported and extended the learning talking about the shapes, images and how taking turns in play is kind to others.

19.01.2022 A huge thank you to Lolas family for the donation of books. We have utilised these across the Centre into the rooms and on our lending library where families can borrow books. The lending library is located on our community trolley at the front door. #communitymatters

18.01.2022 Incursion fun with the Toddlers. What a busy week we have had in Toddlers with two incursions and a lot of activities to keep us busy. This week we had a visit from Ready, Steady, Go Kids and we practiced our basketball skills, balancing, rolling, throwing, and spatial awareness. We have loved riding bikes, with some of us upgrading to the large bikes and therefore having to navigate the bike path differently, as the larger bikes don’t always go where you want them to go!... Our other incursion was with First Senses. This allows a lot of messy play so we explored shaving foam, rice and trains, paints, jelly, and we also made our own in the Pre-Kindy room with pasta. These experiences allow us to investigate different materials and resources and we are able to share these with our peers and Educators.

18.01.2022 Teamwork in Pre-Kinder The Pre-Kinder children have been developing their collaboration in a range of ways over the last few weeks. This has included small and large group activities. It has included planned and spontaneous play. As you can see the children were involved and engaged in construction together. There was lots of communication about how and why they were building, problem-solving when things didnt quite go to plan and a sense of achievement with the completed co...nstruction project. #littlebuilders

18.01.2022 Currently in the Kindy room, children have been asking Educators to read the story book, This is a ball by Beck & Matt Stanton. With a lot of laughter and excitement from the story, Eugene took the opportunity to have his own small group time and read the story to a group of friends outside. Early childhood Educators take on many roles in play with children and use a range of strategies to support learning. They engage in sustained shared conversations with children to extend their thinking. They provide a balance between child led, child initiated, and Educator supported learning. Children in time become the teacher and find ways to convey and construct messages with purpose and confidence, building on early literacies in preparation for school. Thank you, Eugene.

17.01.2022 Q: What do you call a paleontologist who sleeps all the time? A: Lazybones Q: What do you get when a dinosaur scores a touchdown? A: A dino-score... Q: What did the dinosaur use to build his house? A: A dino-saw The Zen garden was set up for our dinosaurs who explored the whole area. The children were able to draw each dinosaur, play with them and find a treasure too.

17.01.2022 Collaboration in Pre-Kindy. Collaboration comes in many forms. It can be working together on a project or cooperating together in play. Children lead their own play here at Green Leaves Seaford Meadows and inform the program directly. When children actively contribute to the program, they are more likely to be engaged in play that responds to their interests, abilities and strengths. The pictures say it all.....

17.01.2022 Miss Alex from Hey Dee Ho visited the Centre yesterday and implemented a music and yoga session with all rooms. The Toddlers participated fully in all elements including singing a caterpillar song, making the sea life animals swim on the blue fabric and then practising their yoga by pretending to be caterpillars changing into butterflies. As you can see from the photos the children were fully engaged in the session and had so much fun.... Yoga is a whole system and is built on three main structures: exercise, breathing and meditation. Regular daily practice of these structures of Yoga produces a clear, bright mind and a strong, capable body. Children can safely practice meditation and simple breathing exercises as long as the breath is never held. These techniques can greatly help children learn to relax, concentrate, and reduce impulsiveness. Children trained in these techniques are better able to manage emotional upsets and cope with stressful events.

17.01.2022 R u ok? Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet.... "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I dont think I do." "Thats okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often dont feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know youve got someone there for you. And Ill always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." A.A. Milne Sending thoughts to everyone having a Difficult Day today. May you have your own Piglet to sit beside you

16.01.2022 Happy Educators Day to the amazing team at Green Leaves Seaford Meadows. The team celebrated with a wonderful gift of a lunch box, certificate, chocolate freckles and personalised message along with two platters from two local businesses (Indulgent Bakery and Cheese 2U) Thank you to our wonderful families for their messages on our Educator Tree. We really appreciate the personal messages of love.... #educatorsday #dreamteam

13.01.2022 Following the donation of the plumbing pipes last week, the Educators set up space in the sandpit for the children to explore them. I wonder what they will do with them? Videos to follow.....

13.01.2022 We should all be checking in on each other, supporting one another and showing care and concern because we are one community

12.01.2022 The Nursery environment has had a make-over and the children have been able to explore this environment with curiosity. Take a look at this mini tour.

12.01.2022 This week in the Toddler room we have been looking at nature with Nature Play SA visiting us on Wednesday. This fitted perfectly with our current interest of looking at Autumn changes with the children over the last few weeks. We explored logs, clay, and playdough with natural materials, such as pinecones, leaves, seed pods and sticks. We have really enjoyed exploring our outside space with sand play, water play and exploring the tyres, dinosaurs in the mud pit and the bamboo. The children are definitely using the outside as the third teacher. We will be continuing our interest in Autumn and having days full of sun and some rain.

12.01.2022 From the team at Green Leaves Seaford Meadows, we would like to wish all, a wonderful day. Enjoy the time with loved ones.

12.01.2022 Please welcome "Presents" our Elf on The Shelf which was named by Elouise from the Kindy room. Presents will be, no doubt getting up to all sorts of mischief over the Christmas period. Keep your eyes peeled and see if you can spot what she is up to....... #christmasfun

11.01.2022 The plumbing pipes exploration continues..... Elijah attempts to work out how to transport water from the tap to the wooden channel. His play continued after the video stopped with him trying multiple ways to get this to work displaying problem solving skills and investigation.

11.01.2022 Spring is here! Now that the weather has changed and it is not so cold, the Toddlers have loved having their progressive meals outside in the sunshine. By having progressive mealtimes throughout the day allows small, intimate groupings of children, that meets the childrens individual needs and ensures a calm and relaxed environment.... In recognising children as active participants in their own learning, children should be encouraged to make meaningful decisions about elements of their own education and care. Incorporating progressive morning and afternoon tea times into the educational program allows children to choose to eat when they are hungry, rather than according to a timetable. Children can gather in small groups to enjoy morning and afternoon tea time, without interrupting the needs and play of others. This also encourages quieter, more social, and meaningful interactions at these times and allow for a smoother flow throughout the day. Children can make decisions based on their own needs and can be supported to access food water throughout the day. When Educators create environments in which children experience mutually enjoyable, caring, and respectful relationships with people and the environment, children respond accordingly. When children participate collaboratively in everyday routines, events and experiences and have opportunities to contribute to decisions, they learn to live interdependently.

11.01.2022 Thank you to all our beautiful families for the messages of love and appreciation.

11.01.2022 Miss Lynn's story with the Toddlers was a Dreamtime story about how the birds got their colours. The Toddlers have shown an interest in learning colour names and this book was chosen to support this along with it being cultural week. The story is about a blackbird who cuts its foot on a stick and how another blackbird, a parrot helps him by pecking at the foot and the colours exploding over the nearby birds providing them with their amazing coloured feathers.... The children were really engaged in the story and pointed to the pictures. Miss Lynn narrated what they were pointing at to assist with language development. Hazel and Archer were very animated. Archer said, "The bird is sad and needs his mum" when the stick made him bleed. Hazel pointed to the colours and was able to name some correctly. Lilly was so interested she indicated that she wanted to look at the book herself. Miss Lynn handed her the book and she turned the pages pointing to the objects as Miss Lynn verbalised the pictures.

11.01.2022 The Toddler room has had a refresh of resources and the play spaces have been adapted to fit the interests of the children in an engaging way. It will be interesting to see how the Toddlers react.

10.01.2022 Exploring Art through playdough with the Kindy children. The Kindy children have been exploring playdough and using it to express themselves in artistic activities. They then created a poster to show off what they have done. Their voices were recorded on the poster with them explaining their play and exploration. The benefits of playdough are:... It develops fine motor skills. Its calming for children. It encourages creativity. It enhances hand-eye coordination. It improves social skills. It supports literacy and numeracy. It promotes playtime. When we record the voice of the child, we are acknowledging their individual knowledge and perspectives at this point in time. When children see and hear us giving the importance and meaning of their words, they are empowered to share their thinking and knowledge with even greater freedom. By doing this we are supporting their confidence and belief in the fact that their voice matters and we want to hear what they have to say.

10.01.2022 Are you considering schools for your children? We have information packs on some local schools available in the parent lounge for you to take if interested.

10.01.2022 This week in Pre Kindy we have been busy creating using the new pipe and connectors that were donated to the centre. We have been connecting them to see how tall we can go up, created phone lines and we also have been using water and sand to send through the pipes to where we would like the water and sand to go. This week we have also been concentrating on our numbers and have been using puzzles, number cards, number stones, stones and popsicle sticks to match to the number of cards and stones. We have also been drawing our numbers and using other mediums such as slime to create numbers.

10.01.2022 Miss Lynns Story Session with the Nursery - One More Tickle. Today Miss Lynn visited the Nursery for their story session. The story is about Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare and whether they are ticklish and where. The book comes with an attached puppet which the children loved tickling and hugging throughout. During this, we talked about where we are ticklish and the children were encouraged to point out body parts including ears, nose, chin, underarms and toes. T...his extended on from the children learning the names of body parts, which is a room focus. #learningthroughliteracy

10.01.2022 Staff Acknowledgement. Lauren was recognised by other staff members for improved communication during the working day. 07.01.2022 Why do we introduce the children to sports? Ready, Steady, Go Kids have been attending the Centre for years now and have built up a rapport with children of all ages. Even with different instructors, the children adapt and develop relationships learning through fun activities. This is part of our all-inclusive incursions at the Centre. There's a growing body of research that links physical activity to improvements in educational achievement. That's because sport helps childre...n develop character and to learn important social and brain skills such as problem-solving, resilience, perseverance, confidence, and teamwork. Playing sport helps children learn to control their emotions and channel negative feelings in a positive way. It also helps children to develop patience and understand that it can take a lot of practice to improve their physical skills. They learn to respect authority, rules, team colleagues, and opponents. Sport is an important learning environment for children. It is also within the sport that peer status and peer acceptance is established and developed. Sports experiences help to build positive self-esteem in children too.

06.01.2022 Culture Week has been amazing here at Green Leaves Seaford Meadows. The Educators across the rooms have provided the children with a range of activities to teach them about cultural awareness. This has included a range of stories, art activities and music. Teaching cultural awareness benefits the children by:... Build young children's self-confidence and skills. Increase children's awareness, appreciation, and inclusion of diverse beliefs and cultures. Maximise children's academic achievement and educational success.

05.01.2022 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Green Leaves Seaford Meadows.

03.01.2022 More pipe exploration... The Nursery children have been exploring their plumbing pipes in the sandpit this week. Look at the concentration and focus when Evaliah was carefully pouring the sand from her bucket into the pipe exploring cause and effect, space and measure and properties of materials. Children are the masters of exploration and investigation, showing curiosity about their environment. ... Areas and objects can spark a childs curiosity and allow them to use a range of senses to investigate. This leads them to gain knowledge and experience, supporting their development further.

03.01.2022 What Australia means to me - Kindy Over the past month, children and Educators have been learning more about the country we live in, our different traditions which are important to us as a family and how Australia makes us feel. Educators have been reading the children the book called Same, but a little bit different by Kylie Dunstan then asking the children What does Australia mean to you? To support this learning, Educators have provided the children with activity wi...th an outline of Australia for them to draw, create and express what does Australia means to them. Over the past number of group sessions, Miss Debby has shared with the children our Australian Art Activity children have started and may wish to participate in, their choice. On Friday 6th November 2020, Miss Debby involved children in a discussion in relation to our activity, "Does anyone know what the large map over there by the table is of?" Australia Thank you, Marlie. Bruce and Mason P were exploring the map in the morning whilst they lay under the table, having a chat with the crocodile. Can anyone tell me what Australia means to you? For giving you a big hug Thank you, Annie. Miss Cathy mentioned "Family" was important to her. Miss Jodie mentioned "Going to the beach" is what she enjoyed about Australia. Miss Debby discussed a little bit more about Australia, the Aboriginal culture and the different resources and textures the children might like to explore on the table related to the activity. We passed around the different Gum Leaves and natural materials which lead to a discussion about Australian animals, Koalas and Kangaroos. Mason P shared with the group "I see the Kangaroos down the back Is that in the reserve?" Miss Debby asked. "Yeah Do you feel scared when you see them, or do you feel comfortable around them?" "Kangaroos make me feel comfortable" And my dad didn't see the kangaroo." Mason P excitingly shared with the class. Miss Debby expressed the importance of how Australia has a different meaning for everyone, which lead to the question, "Is it ok that everyone's artwork is different?" "They make their own decisions." Thank you, Marlie. It is enjoyable to observe how children are openly comfortable to share their experiences, feelings, and representation of ‘What Australia means to them.’ It was nice to have a discussion with the class where children contributed by listening and observing to retain new information, and other peers contributed to the group to support and extend knowledge and information for others.

03.01.2022 The Nursery children explored art using natural resources this week. Miss Fame set up the activity with leaves, flowers and twigs and the childrne explored these items using them as paintbrushes developing thier artistic skills, manipulation, control and coordination.

02.01.2022 Did you know that incursions are part of our all-inclusive fee? First Senses have been attending the Centre for a few years now incorporating a range of sensory tuff trays around a themed topic for the Nursery & Toddler children to explore and investigate. As you can see from the photos some children are more enthusiastic than others!!... What a MESSY morning we have had They set up multiple sensory stations containing edible and very low toxic ingredients. Today we had a coloured rice train station, playdough, low toxic paint, soaked tapioca pearls, gelatine, and foam (low toxic bubble mixture). Some children enjoyed getting right in, using their hands, feet and even their whole body. Others were a little unsure at first, but with support from Educators, slowly got involved. The children were able to move from each station as they please, some constantly moving around and some staying at the same station the whole time. The children enjoyed feeling the different textures, finding which ones they liked and which ones they didn't. Cashis splashed the gelatin mixture. Kol broke the playdough into small pieces. Evie thoroughly enjoyed getting messy

02.01.2022 In the Toddler Room, one of the main focuses in the room is learning the alphabet. The Toddlers do this in many ways. In the Toddler room, we have alphabet stones. These are manufactured stones that have the alphabet printed on them. These are placed in a basket on the table so the children can access them when they wish.... We then can use a different medium like playdough. Alphabet cutters are a good choice to use as this is a different way to incorporate the childrens learning of the alphabet. These can also be used as stamps with paint. The Toddlers also enjoy using the foam letters this is a different texture for the children to use their senses such as look and touch. This can also be used with paint for the children to stamp letters onto the pieces of paper. We also use wooden letters these are coloured so not only the children are exposed to the letters of the alphabet, they get exposed to the colours of red, blue, yellow and green. There is also a range of books for the children to read so they used to seeing the letters of the alphabet that makeup words so they begin to associate that the letters they are learning are in words that they use for everyday language. All of these formats complement the singing of the phonetic song learning the letters of the alphabet, which the children love getting involved in each group time. Active involvement in learning builds childrens understandings of concepts and the creative thinking and inquiry processes that are necessary for lifelong learning. They can challenge and extend their own thinking, and that of others, and create new knowledge in collaborative interactions and negotiations. Childrens active involvement changes what they know, can do, value and transforms their learning #younglearners

01.01.2022 Developing fine motor skills in the Nursery. The Nursery Educators have explored fine motor development with the children in various ways this week including posting pipe cleaners into colanders, matching and sorting objects into coloured trays, playdough and chalking. Children learn to manipulate materials effectively through persevering with activities and trial and error. Fine motor skills are involved in smaller movements that occur in the wrists, hands, fingers, feet and... toes. They involve smaller actions such as picking up objects between the thumb and finger, writing carefully, and even blinking. These two motor skills work together to provide coordination. #littlelearners
