24.01.2022 I’m with you Kitty. I’m a teapot! I’m a teapot! Done.

23.01.2022 It was quite chilly this morning (for Wollongong - I know, stop complaining). But I was so happy to see our pond still has some big fat tadpoles trying to warm themselves by basking near the surface. Of course they swam away as soon as I tried to take a picture, but we do have the most ADORABLE tadpole tea cups with this frog tea for two set, so I will always have tadpoles!

23.01.2022 Thanks for the shout out from the Australian Gift & Homewares Association!

22.01.2022 The AGHA has just published their September Update to the Online Industry Catalogue (the catalogue you have when you're not having a trade fair catalogue). And there's me! Page 214-215. Covid-hair and all, being all upbeat about working from home and online and my new role as in-house product photographer. https://issuu.com//docs/agha-online-industry-catalogue-2020

21.01.2022 While in the past few years it seemed everyone was leaving their shopping later and later, this year we're all getting in early. Maybe we all just want this year to be over ASAP? J Style has some gorgeous dinnerware gift sets that will tick the box for early gift shoppers. Read all about them in the Australia Giftguide this week. https://giftguideonline.com.au//gift-sets-for-home-dining.

20.01.2022 We’re in Australian Giftguide this week talking about how so many people have been taking comfort from a nice cup of tea (and a biscuit) in covid times.

17.01.2022 In the Giftguide Kitchen & Dining section this week. Character Mugs! Because nothing says comfort like a mug of hot chocolate with a sleepy Pooh Bear on the handle. https://giftguideonline.com.au/ar/mugs-with-character.html

17.01.2022 A friend sent me a meme showing a very useful Japanese word. Kuchisabishii. It translates as "mouth loneliness" and relates to those times when you are snacking even though you aren't really hungry. I asked Sam if it was a real Japanese word and he just said, "Mmmm... Snacks." and then started looking through the cupboard even though we'd just had dinner. I can't be the only one that is really relating to this word right now. Every cup of tea needs it's biscuit pairing. Right? And a walk to the fridge and back is now an exciting excursion from my desk. Will I only encourage more kuchisabishii if I ask you all what biscuit goes best with a macha latte?

17.01.2022 The GHA Supplier Showcase is now live! It's clearly not as good as seeing all your lovely faces in Melbourne at the Gift Fair (or all the eating out I usually do while we're there!), but at least you can search for suppliers and see all the new product online. Check out our page here https://agha20.mapyourshow.com//exh/exhibitor-details.cfm

15.01.2022 Thank goodness it’s not this hard to make a cup of tea these days https://www.facebook.com/ABCTV/videos/236626004323340/?vh=e&extid=noUtALGI28PIRUQV

15.01.2022 We call this tea set the Little Bird Tea Set, but really the Japanese name is Shimaenaga Tea Set. Today I read an article about the real birds that inspired this tea set. Tiny fluff balls Shimaenaga are a particular species of Long Tailed Tit found only in the snowy regions of Hokkaido Japan. I love this adorable tea set even more knowing about the tiny birds that inspired its design. https://mymodernmet.com/shima-enaga-long-tailed-tit/

15.01.2022 I thought I'd get out my Leaning Tower of Pisa Tea Set. Because I was planning to go there and see the real thing. I'm always planning to go somewhere. Lots of planning. But now I can't even plan. I can just have a cup of tea. And dream about when I can start planning again.

15.01.2022 This week's GiftGuide story is all about little bud vases that are a great gift to help bring some greenery indoors when you're stuck inside. I don't like to complain in front of Victorians, but it was really hard to take photos for this week's article while it poured with rain all week and I really was stuck indoors. The rain did help my garden have plenty of greenery for my vases though! https://giftguideonline.com.au//bud-vases-are-the-best-sma

14.01.2022 Lovers of tiny vases have already noticed some changes going on at J Style. Yes it's time again for "Changing the Designs!" We regularly switch out the designs on our bud vases to keep them nice and fresh. Green Hana is gone and Blue Clouds is on it's way out. New designs to replace them are Amari Risu, a gourgeous red & grey floral, and the always popular blue and white Maple Blossom design. There are still a few Blue Clouds left in Rectangle and Triangle shapes, but these will soon switch over to Maple Blossom, so if you are a die-hard Blue Clouds fan, grab those quickly before they all turn into maples.

12.01.2022 This week in Australian Giftguide we’re snuggling on the couch with our pets and our cat mugs and dog teaspoons and hedgehog ginger tea. https://www.giftguideonline.com.au//cute-animal-tea-sets-a

11.01.2022 Three little orders on the picking bench this morning. One all tea canisters. One all mugs. One all vases. So when you ask me what’s my best selling item... I really need to know your store, your location, your customers, the season... There’s no point me telling you what sells best for me. Because today three different stores need three different things. And looking at this table you’d never know that OUR best selling item this month is noodle bowls. Talk to me about your store and what sells for you now, and I will help you find your next best seller.

09.01.2022 I think it's time for tea with hunny

09.01.2022 Everyone's asking "how we've been faring" through the COVID-19 crisis. And I've been telling everyone - it sure is a rollercoaster! Mid March - business stopped dead. Queue panic for a week. April - back in business - but selling nothing but teapots. May - almost back to "normal". Still more teapots than usual, but home cooking must be cheering on a new dinner set too. What will June bring? The really obvious trend through April really brought it home to me. When in a crisis, we all just want a cup of tea! This article in the SMH agrees with my anecdotal evidence. Grab a cup of tea while you read it. https://www.smh.com.au//at-last-tea-is-getting-the-officia

07.01.2022 Sent a few vases down to Oku Den in Hurstbridge and Northcote, VIC. So great to see Melbournians out shopping again!

07.01.2022 Did I miss something? I love frogs, but there seems to be some kind of frog mania happening. I got 40+ enquiries for our Frog & Tadpole tea set overnight. I wonder if anyone sold one to a celebrity?

04.01.2022 One of our great stockists in VIC, Okuden, is sewing like crazy to keep up with demand for their Japanese fabric masks with charcoal filters. If you can't get your hands on one of their beautiful masks, you can always grab a J Style handkerchief and DIY a no-sew mask. This is a great tutorial with a video at the end. I especially love that they suggest using cut up stockings instead of hair ties to make it softer on your ears and that "no-one will ever know you have old tights on you face" https://blog.japanesecreations.com/no-sew-face-mask-with-ha

04.01.2022 New stock is still arriving regularly here at J Style. Covid-19 may have put a temporary dampener on business, but we order our stock 12-18 months ahead, so new designs are all still coming through. The good news is that while our hearts skipped a beat in March, April saw a surge in demand for teapots and mugs. A comforting cup of tea is clearly what we all needed. May followed up with big interest in bowls. Particularly nice deep ramen bowls, perfect for a heart warming soup..., or a satisfying home made bowl of noodles. Cooking at home much more than usual has made many people realise just how good it can be to sit around the table with family. Having your own set of really nice bowls is so important to making it a special meal at home. Picking up some fresh ingredients, googling a recipe or dusting off an actual cookbook, putting it all together and then sharing it with family served in a beautifully hand made Japanese bowl. That's the feeling we're all looking for right now. Check out our new range of large ramen and noodle bowls on the website now. Botan design has sold out in other bowl sizes, and Quilt is also running very low, so they're the ones to grab first in this new size.

01.01.2022 Youch! Just got a letter from Direct Freight couriers to say their rates are going up across the board by 8.5% from 3 July, and I've heard that other couriers are going up by similar amounts. Usually it's only 2% or 3% a year. More reason than ever to sneak in an extra stock order before the end of June.
