15.01.2022 NUFFIELD SCHOLAR RETURNS HOME TO THE ORD Western Australia has produced many Nuffield Scholars in years gone by- but never before has a WA farmer travelled the... world to research tropical cotton. Luke McKay is the farm manager for Kimberley Agricultural Investment- the company which has begun picking the Ords first commercial cotton since 2011. Well after almost two months abroad, Mr McKay has returned home to apply some of the lessons learned from other growers around the world on his Nuffield study tour. "This trip was certainly about broadening our understanding of how agriculture works around the world," he said. I certainly didnt expect to find the silver bullet out there for how to make this work. "But I was more about finding out how other farmers around the world manage their crops, how they approach their problems and how they overcome their challenges." On his Nuffield tour, Mr McKay has traveled to Brazil, Canada, China and USA, as well as locally to North Queensland to learn from other growers in similar farming conditions. His Nuffield Scholarship is being sponsored by Cotton Australia and the Cotton Research and Development Corporation. ABC Rural ORDCO Ord River District Co-operative Ltd Cotton Australia
