25.01.2022 Great news for local schools in the Goldfields! The McGowan Government’s $5 million Solar School program will see 3 schools across the Goldfields and 2 schools in the North West Central area transformed into a solar school. Our kids will benefit from the opportunity to further their Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education by learning about renewable energy technologies.... These rooftop solar panels will help us make WA more sustainable and importantly for our local schools, it will save 27 per cent on electricity costs - that’s money better spent on our students. Congratulations to Laverton Primary School, Leonora District High School, Norseman District High School, and in NWC Meekatharra District High School and Wiluna Remote Community School!

19.01.2022 On Wednesday night I brought to the attention of the House yet another allegation of a multi-national ripping off a West Australian contractor. I will continue to call out these disgusting behaviours, as I have done on many occasions. You can watch the full statement here: https://youtu.be/aMUtcqALdRU

18.01.2022 This week is Dementia Action Week and the team at Dementia Australia have shared the below tips on how to have a better relationship with people with dementia. When should you give people with dementia space? If you know someone with dementia, there may be situations where you are tempted to take charge. Instead, try to consider how you can give a person with dementia more space so they can retain their independence and self-worth.... Some ways you can support are: when the person is trying to solve a problem, give them the space and time to work it out on their own. Ask them if they need your help and how they’d like you to help them. if the person isn’t responding to you verbally, be patient and give them time. Try not to rush the person or speak for them. when the person is performing a task, give them plenty of time and try not to take over or micromanage them. Not sure if you are giving your friend or loved one enough space? Take the quiz on our page below to find out. This week is Dementia Action Week, a week to understand the discrimination that people living with dementia face and the small changes and support that can make a lot of difference. For more information, please visit discrimination.dementia.org.au/action-week/day-2-space/

04.01.2022 Re-sharing this video from 2 years ago which still stands, because R U OK is not just for today, it's for every day. Please remember to ask a mate, family member or even stranger - R U OK?

04.01.2022 Yesterday I spoke on Workers Rights in the Oil and Gas Industry. I will continue to call out shonky practices in industries where workers are being ripped off by multi-national corporate thugs. Last week it was Inpex and their shonky subby Broadspectrum, this week it is Shell, Rio Tinto and their shonky subbies Sodexo and West Tug. ... It is not good enough. As the principle client you have a social responsibility to ensure your contractors are treated equally and with respect. I won’t stop calling this out. I say to all you shonky employers it is time to do the right thing, once you do you will discover better production and a far safer workplace because of it. https://youtu.be/qPc1g2buhXs #OffshoreAlliance

04.01.2022 The Kalgoorlie 'one-stop hub' for services to help victims of family and domestic violence, is on track to open by the end of this year. The hub will enhance safety and wellbeing by simplifying access to supports, promoting wraparound services and supports where women experience less trauma by only having to tell their story once not to multiple services. The new regional hub will provide additional options for people experiencing family and domestic violence in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and surrounding communities to seek help.

04.01.2022 Awesome to meet two graduates of the Kimberley Girl program today run by Goolarri Media Enterprises. Thank you Marlikka Perdrisat (left) and Buna-Tuaty Poelina for your time talking to me today in Broome. I am a huge fan of the program (also run closer to my patch as Goldfields Girl) because of the opportunities and outcomes it provides for young First Nations women. Can’t speak highly enough of the teams behind these programs and the work they do for the community - and of course the amazing women that participate in the programs. Great to be in Broome for the Community Cabinet, this event today was a lunch hosted by Minister McGurk, which I was asked to MC for which was great. Awesome show of community members out at the Cable Beach Club.

03.01.2022 FOSTER CARERS <3 <3 A group of pretty incredible people who look after WA's kids when others can't. Foster carers, grandcarers and special guardian carers do incredible work day in and day out, and we know that work became more challenging at the height of the pandemic.... To support the thousands of carers who have done it tough during COVID-19, we’re delivering one-off payments of $500 or more to help ease household financial pressures. As part of the WA Recovery Plan, the McGowan Government is also investing more than $300,000 in additional therapeutic and consultation support for foster and family carers across WA. This important funding boost will provide much-needed support to both carers and children in care across WA.

01.01.2022 Huge news for the Goldfields This is a significant announcement for Western Australia and yet another sign that confidence is returning to the State's economy, as we continue our recovery from COVID-19. I congratulate APA Group on its investment into this important project, which is expected to create 500 WA jobs throughout construction.... The Northern Goldfields Interconnect project is likely to stimulate significant economic development along its route in the Mid-West and throughout the Goldfields region.

01.01.2022 What a great outcome for the Goldfields, for the migrants who have moved and settled here, and for the Goldfields Community Legal Centre who have been doing amazing work on this program.
