25.01.2022 A reminder that fire season is here, and now is the time to plan and prepare. Yesterday CFA and Forest Fire Management Victoria crews responded to a bracken f...ire at Mt Buninyong that burnt approximately 10-15 hectares. 17 vehicles in total were on scene, alongside aerial support. Well done to all involved in the firefight, which was declared extinguished by 8:30pm last night. Photos from Buninyong - Mount Helen FB and Ballarat Fire Brigade

Things you should know about avian influenza: - Avian influenza is a highly contagious disease that infects chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, quail, pheasants and ostriches. Many species of wild birds, including waterfowl and seabirds can also carry the virus. - Avian influenza can be spread between locations by movement of eggs, birds, people, vehicles and equipment between farms, and by clothing, footwear, aerosols, water, feed, litter, wild birds, biting insects and vermin. - There are no food safety issues identified; properly cooked chicken meat and eggs are safe to eat. - All bird owners should regularly check their birds for signs of avian influenza. - If you suspect your birds are sick you should contact your local vet or call the Emergency Disease Watch Hotline on 1800 675 888. - From August 7, 2020, all poultry owners - even those with just two or three chickens or birds - are required by law to keep their poultry housed or separated as best they can from wild birds for at least the next 30 days. - Bird owners must observe all movement controls now in place throughout Golden Plains Shire. - No birds, bird products or equipment can move into, out of or within the shire without a permit. - This means eggs, manure and birds cannot be sold or given away at farm-gate, off property or at markets in this area. 05.01.2022 Yesterday volunteer members from Lara CFA along with crews from Geelong West, Geelong City and Grovedale assisted Ambulance Victoria and DHHS with the covid-19 testing response in Sunshine. Our crews carried out support logistics duties to enable the Nurses and Paramedics to conduct as many tests as possible for the day.

A huge thank you also to the Lara District Community Bank Branch for getting us started with a $20,000 grant, as well as Bisinella Developments and Chemring for generous corporate donations of $25,000 and Boomaroo Nurseries for donating $5,000. 03.01.2022 Lara CFA thanks Lara Basketball Club When COVID 19 forced the cancellation of the winter basketball season the Lara Giants committee thought outside the box. Instead of just refunding fees, they asked members if they would like their fees to be used to assist community organisations in Lara. The majority of the members agreed to this option.... Families in need have been assisted with food hampers, and Lara CFA Volunteer Fire Brigade also received a donation.
03.01.2022 Just a little public service announcement. We are aware of a number of burn offs today in and around the Lara area. If you are having a burn off please ensure you comply with all City of Greater Geelong permit conditions (they are listed on your permit). Ensure you notify Vicfire on 1800 668 511 and the Lara Fire Brigade Duty Officer on the number listed on the permit. Enjoy the sun while it lasts.

01.01.2022 Today marks a new beginning for fire services in our state with the creation of Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). All Officers, Firefighters and employees of Melbourne’s Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) and all Career Officers, Firefighters and some other paid employees of the Country Fire Authority (CFA) will be amalgamated to form FRV. All current CFA Volunteers will remain with the CFA, which will revert to being a volunteer fire service.... Lara Fire Brigade is an Integrated Fire Station made up of career staff and volunteers operating 24/7 within the CFA. The following changes will come into effect from today: Career staff will transfer their employment to FRV. Lara Station will be known as Station 61. Lara Pumper and Lara HAZMAT will move with the staff to FRV and be known as Pumper 61 and HAZMAT 61. Lara CFA Volunteers will retain and continue to respond Lara Tanker 1, Lara Tanker 2, Lara Tanker 3 and Lara FCV (Forward Command Vehicle). Both FRV and CFA Firefighters will continue to respond to calls in Lara and our neighbouring communities as we have always done, operating side-by-side to protect lives and property. #weworkasone
01.01.2022 2 of our volunteers headed down to Torquay in the early hours of this morning to assist with our quickfill trailer. Great work to all brigades and Emergency services involved in this incident. #weworkasone
