25.01.2022 A Queensland man is encouraging people with hearing difficulties to seek the help of a four-legged friend after receiving a support dog from his local Lions Aus...tralia club. David Eslick says ‘Jake’ has changed his life and can do the same for others. Please do not be embarrassed, contact the Lions people, they will do an assessment, they will tell you what you need and please just follow it through - David Eslick. www.7NEWS.com.au #7NEWS

23.01.2022 The need was immediate. As smoke filled the sky, Lions mobilised quickly, cooking meals for first responders battling blazes and treating the wounded. Lions al...so collected and distributed food and other emergency items and held fundraisers for fire victims. To exponentially broaden their impact, Lions sought support from their foundation Lions Clubs International Foundation taking advantage of a $141,000 AUD LCIF Disaster Relief grant to restore water infrastructure, where many families use above-ground tanks to store their drinking water. When flames rushed through, the heat of the fires melted the tanks, leaving families without safe drinking water, explained a local firefighter. With the LCIF grant, Lions purchased and installed new tanks, giving families access to life-sustaining potable water. 20.01.2022 Lions Australia is pleased to have adopted Disaster Relief Australia as one of our key projects. Disaster Relief Australia (formerly known as Team Rubicon) brin...gs military veterans, emergency responders and motivated civilians together to volunteer their time to assist with emergency and disaster relief operations. This not only helps communities devastated by disasters, but it also helps Australian veterans find purpose through community service. Lions members are often the first to respond during times of crisis, as was seen in the 2019/2020 Black Summer bushfires. This partnership will be of significant benefit to both organisations - allowing veterans to get involved in more community projects, and assisting Lions clubs with more trained emergency responders in times of disaster. 17.01.2022 Thank goodness for Bunnings! COVID-19 has resulted in many grass roots charities being unable to source funds so they can continue the valuable work they do. Others have seen a significant increase in demand as trying circumstances result in people needing support more than ever. Lions Club of Burleigh takes pride in supporting the community and with restrictions have been unable to raise much needed funds for those in need. Thank you Bunnings for bringing back the Sizzle!!! ...If yesterday was any indication, people have missed their sausage!!! Now Charities, Service Clubs, Sports Clubs amd others have the opportunity to raise much needed funds for our community. Thank you Bunnings!!!! If you haven’t yet, go to your nearest Bunnings and support your local clubs. we will also be at the Burleigh Beachside Markets on Sunday August 30th! Come and say hi! See more

Having fun while helping others was one of their goals back in 1917 and should still be true today. 06.01.2022 "Cage fighting" with neuroblastoma Dr Andrew Care: Macquarie University Engineering a protein nanocage for targeted ionophoric-copper therapy Neuroblastoma is t...he most common solid tumour in young children, yet no significant progress has been made over the last 10 years to improve survival, which for those diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma is less than 50 per cent. Unfortunately, current treatments also have severe lifelong side effects that diminish the emotional well-being and social integration of survivors. There is hope. Recently, copper has been shown to drive neuroblastoma growth, proliferation and metastasis. Dr Care’s project aims to engineer an innovative natural nanoparticle (called a ‘Protein Nanocage’) that can selectively target and disrupt copper levels inside neuroblastoma, causing tumour cell death. This nanotechnology is specifically designed to have high efficacy while minimising the harmful impacts treatment can have on healthy growing cells, improving patient outcomes. This project received further support through Cancer Australia's Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme. #201Q1 #Q1Lions #AnotherLionsProject #201Q1MonthlyProjects # ALCCRF #AustralianLionsChildhoodCancerResearchFoundation

Founded in 2004 by Animal Welfare Advocate and Pet Lifestyle Expert, Colleen Paige, National Dog Day celebrates all breeds, mixed a...nd pure and serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure breed rescues. National Dog Day honors family dogs and dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day - protecting our families and homes, for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for the deaf and hard of hearing, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and helping to locate and rescue victims of accidents and tragedy.
