22.01.2022 So many lovely colours filled the children's lunch bowls today. Chicken chow mein was a new recipe and was well received by the children. It will be added to the new summer menu that is coming soon. Enjoy the recipe and if you would like a copy there will be some available at the front door from tomorrow, just ask an educator at pick up time.

22.01.2022 Little Academy October Donation Drive for St Merkorious and Exodus Foundation Charities Throughout the month of October Little Academy will be running a charity drive for the food banks of the St Merkorious Foundation located in South Strathfield and the Exodus Foundation located in Ashfield. Any items you wish to Donate can be dropped off at Little Academy during the month of October and we will deliver them to the charities. Australian charities help approximately 240,000 p...eople each year. That’s quite an achievement. Unfortunately, it hardly scratches the surface in terms of supporting the larger community whose burden is overwhelming. A recent Census showed that 105,200 families were without a home. They were living in strange places, or bunking with friends until their situation improves (if it ever improves). Many more were on the brink of homelessness, going without food, so that they can afford to pay rent. This is where Charities like St Merkorious and the Exodus foundation steps in. They provide nutritional meals, comfort without judging, and a support system which will help alleviate the struggles and sadness in their life. They respond whole heartedly and aim to make a positive difference in the life of someone facing disadvantage. The Merkorious Foundation is seeking the following items Packaged food: Pasta, rice, noodles, tuna, chicken, spam, beans, lentils, soups, canned fruit, sweet and savory biscuits, honey, jam, sugar, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, long life milk, cornflakes and cereal, etc. Hygiene products: Body wash, body lotion, hand cream, shaving cream, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, tissues, shampoo/ conditioner, deodorant, hand wash, sanitizer and wipes. Miscellaneous: Can openers, first-aid items such as band-aids, clean underwear, bandages and torches. The Exodus Foundation is seeking Supermarket & store gift cards. Tinned ham, chicken, spam and braised steak (ring-pull only). Tinned tuna, salmon and sardines (ring-pull only). Tinned soups/casseroles (ring-pull only). Tinned spaghetti (ring-pull only). Tinned baked beans (ring-pull only). Potato chips (large packets). Lollies (packets). Cup-a-noodles. If you are in position to assist we would greatly appreciate you joining us in this Charity Drive. Thank you in advance for your support. Kind regards Little Academy Staff

18.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW? 10,000 litres of water are needed to make a single pair of jeans. By shopping second-hand, buying eco-friendly and donating what you no longer wear, you can reduce the environmental impact of your clothes and protect the planet.

01.01.2022 This year National Child Protection Week 6th to 12th September will celebrate its 30th year with the theme: Putting children first ‘Putting children first’ was front of mind when the National Child Protection Week campaign was launched in 1990, with the aim of bringing abuse and neglect out of the shadows and putting child wellbeing on the national agenda. Since then, the need to put children first has been recognised time and time again as an important pillar for boosting t...he wellbeing of all children in Australia. Last year’s National Child Protection Week campaign was based on research that shows the importance of putting children first when talking about parenting, and continued the message that conversations are a key part of engaging the whole community in caring for children. Under this year’s theme of ‘Putting children first’ all Australians are encouraged to look at how they can prioritise children in their lives and communities and to engage in National Child Protection Week as individuals, and as part of families, organisations, communities and society. Putting children first means prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children. To grow up well children need to feel safe and loved, have a chance to play and explore, have a say in decisions that affect them, and access to essential things like food, shelter and healthcare. For children to thrive we need to come together as a community and put children’s needs first during National Child Protection Week and every week.
