25.01.2022 I just came across these old photos of Sensei Graham Ravey from his first visit to Perth in 1986, shot on an old train that used to be outside Bunnings in Balcatta.

25.01.2022 Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy healthy New Year in 2018. The last training night for this year is Wednesday December 20th, we start back training on Monday January 8th 2018

24.01.2022 Traditional Okinawan GoJu Ryu Karate Association Cottesloe Small classes men and women, expert instruction with several black belts in every class, no juniors ...under 12. Not a sport karate but a practical self-defence style that will one day save your life. Sensei Lyon has devoted much of his life to the practice and teaching of karate, over the past 40 years he has trained in Japan and most parts of Asia. From 1985 to 1997 he ran a full-time karate dojo in Mt Lawley teaching around 25 classes per week. As a member of the Cottesloe dojo you will benefit from those many years of experience, you will learn quickly and correctly, while also gaining fitness, muscle tone, weight loss and flexibility. The Okinawan GoJu Ryu style of karate is very different to most martial arts styles now being taught, many of which concentrate on the sport aspect, which has little relevance to your self-defence in a life-threatening confrontation. Come and join us, just wear comfortable clothing (t-shirt, shorts, track suit pants and bare feet will do) and enjoy the relaxed and professional atmosphere (First casual class $15.00) Membership 12 months membership training 2 times a week $650 (Save $310) 12 months membership training 1 time a week $480 1-month casual training $80 per month For further information visit our website https://lyon-karate.com

22.01.2022 Photo from the 1989 all styles training Gasshuku with Sensei Graham Ravey held at the Nollamara Recreation center over two days Saturday 10.30-12.30 and 1.30-3.30 2 x 2 hour training sessions then again Sunday the same. Pictured is Sensei ravey demonstrating kata bunkai Ian Darby on the receiving end, in the background is Alec Flint Kneeling, behind him Mark Bromhead and myself on the other side, as you can see by our gi these were hard hot and sweaty training sessions, much enjoyed and very educational, what we teach now was learned in many of these hard days on the wood floor. Information on our karate club and class times can also be found on our website www.lyon-karate.com

20.01.2022 Sensei Graham Ravey 8th Dan article on Sanchin kata, a very good read, with link to the original article on the TOGKA web site. Sanchin Kata by Sensei Graham Ravey 8th Dan When asked what is the most important things we as humans need to survive, people will say food, clothes and shelter and nine times out of ten never think about air. And yet without it we would die within a matter of seconds....Continue reading

18.01.2022 Last Wednesday a Black Belt grading was held at the Landsdale Dojo, examiners were myself, Jim Gloriod, Brian Cornford, Peter Hutchinson, Darryl Martin, Danny Westcott and helping out with partner exercises and the 16 man sparring were Ben Hutton and Julian Spano from the Cottesloe Dojo. The 3 hour grading was a typically tough and exhausting Okinawan GoJu Ryu grading, covering all aspects and requirements for Black Belt, including Hojo Undo using pads, makiwarra, chishi, ko...ngo ken. A big congratulations to Robert Burnett, Jody Blunden and Geoff McGuirk who was also awarded best grading on the night. Since the club began at the Mount Lawley Dojo in 1986 we have graded 43 students to Black Belt many of them still training and having progressed to 2nd, 3rd and 4th Dan.

07.01.2022 I just came back from Okinawa and have great news for all our members. Higaonna Sensei received an invitation letter from the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Ab...e, to attend the 30th-anniversary ceremony for the Japanese Emperor Akihito, on February 24, 2019. You may remember that Higaonna Sensei and three other masters demonstrated kata for the Japanese Emperor and Empress last March when they visited Okinawa. It was the Okinawan government who asked Higaonna Sensei and the three other masters to do the demonstration last time. However this time, it is the Japanese government who has invited Higaonna Sensei for this special ceremony. It is needless to say that this is such a great honor and recognition to be invited to such an event. There are only two persons from Okinawa invited to this special ceremony. One represents Okinawan traditional dance/music and Higaonna Sensei who represents Karate. We all knew that Higaonna Sensei is the best master. But it made me so happy that now he is recognized by the Japanese government for his many years of contributing towards the development of Okinawan traditional karate and Okinawan culture. Please spread this great news to all your members and their families. We are proud to be students of Higaonna Sensei and members of IOGKF!! "Traditional Karate at its best!!" Tetsuji Nakamura IOGKF Chief Instructor

Dave's wife Lynne ...Egan, Daughter Hannah Louise, Son Josh and the Foster kids were in attendance to pass on the trophy to Geoff. Geoff like Dave before him is fearless and compassionate. Hutchie did a great job doing the Honours. See more
