25.01.2022 Amazing what you can get in our great little town. I walked into the Mallacoota IGA this morning and here is what I spent hours looking for yesterday. I know it's "small beans" to most but with the slow progress of the rebuild I'm taking every bit of positivity that I can get!

25.01.2022 Ah the good old days!

25.01.2022 GIVIT are donating some supplies to the club for a BBQ lunch on Saturdays working bee and GROCON have lent us a portable toilet for the weekend. Thanks to both organisations.

24.01.2022 On Friday we received a donation of $820 from Graham Seeds. Grahams seeds have a program whereby they donate a percentage of what is spent with them to a non profit Sports club nominated by the purchaser. Michael Ritchie from Orbost buys seeds from Grahams and nominated us.... A big thank you to Michael for thinking of us and to Graham Seeds in Yarragon for their generosity.

22.01.2022 From the FGA Australian Simulated Field in Victoria We are still confirming the full details and will communicate this to branches. However, it is clear there will be a number of compliance issues to tick off before any activity commences.... Im not sure what this means for smashing a few clays other than we have to wait and see.

20.01.2022 A big shout out to Natimuk and District Field and Game Club, THANKYOU! Natimuk passed the hat around at their last shoot and have donated $500 to our rebuild which is greatly appreciated

20.01.2022 Our club has been very well supported by Field and Game Australia through the Mates Supporting Mates campaign as well as general support, advice etc. The FGA not only supports us as a club but represents us and our sport on so many levels. The benefit of the insurance alone is worth the membership cost not to mention the magazine, newsletters etc. Can club members or anyone for that matter please consider joining or rejoining the FGA if theyve let their membership lapse. C...lubs also benefit when you join as we get a small donation for each member that nominates our club on their membership. FGA have shown their commitment to us, please show them yours.

19.01.2022 We're slowly moving forward! A generous anonymous benefactor has donated a 20 foot container to us, so we finally have some more much needed storage. The planning permit for the building of our Stramit 12m X 12m shed is being finalised and we've engaged East Gippsland Building Surveyors to get our building permit for the shed and toilet. We are having some problems gaining permission to clear our boundaries in the bush for fencing and are working with DELWP, East Gippsland Sh...ire and Victoria Police to try and resolve the issues. I've included a sat photo of the club area and a rough indication of our new boundaries. The bush area is simply a safety zone. We do need to permanently block the old track where we've had issues with motor bikes and 4WD's accessing our range. If anyone has some railway track or similar that they'd like to donate it would be greatly appreciated. We need to make a barrier that's impossible to pull out like has been done before, the 4WDers love a challenge so this will need to be very serious. With the easing of restrictions in Victoria and the broadening of the border bubble with NSW we can start shooting again in groups of up to 10 people and are planning to start holding comps again. I'll post the details when we've sorted them out. Hopefully we'll get to see some of our friends again soon. Cheers

18.01.2022 Our cleanup has been completed now we need to start the rebuild. Does anyone know of a design draughts person and property surveyor who can do some work for us at a reasonable rate?

18.01.2022 A very successful and enjoyable working bee today We now have front gates that are easy to open and a new very straight front fence. Thanks to all that helped and those who wanted to but couldnt make it. A special thanks to GIVIT for supplying our very tasty BBQ lunch.

17.01.2022 OK now its time to have some boots on the ground and get some work done. Its time for a working bee! On Saturday wed like to install our new front fence. Its 270m, 2 strands of wire and star pickets. If anyone planning to come can bring a star picket driver it would be appreciated. To comply with Covid-19 restrictions we can only have groups of 10 people so can I ask that people register their interest by messaging our FB page and we will get back to you. Olga will be SMS messaging club members in the morning.

17.01.2022 We have a new front fence, signs and a borrowed builders toilet. All the things you need for an August comp! Weve decided to run a limited comp on August 4th. Most likely DTL, possibly a round of Bushwhackers and or simulated field or 5 stand. As you can see we havent made any plans yet. If youre interested in attending please email me ([email protected]) or message 0421 057 736 so we have an idea of numbers. Obviously Covid-19 restrictions will play a part in what were... doing so please bear with us. This is the "not the official opening shoot" so please dont expect bells and whistles. Looking forward to hearing from you.

16.01.2022 Our next shoot is on Saturday April 3 (Easter Saturday) at 10am. We're planning on 75 target Simulated Field and hoping to see lots of happy shooters

15.01.2022 How good is a quality thrower! We installed our new Laporte 12 column DTL thrower this morning and are really looking forward to using it.

14.01.2022 We're shooting again!!! Our first official shoot since the fire will be on Saturday February 6th starting at 10am. It will be either 75 or 100 target but we're not sure of the discipline yet. If our new DTL thrower arrives and can be set up in time it will be DTL, if not it may be 5 stand or Sim Field or novelty. Our facilities are basic! There's a porta loo for the ladies and possibly a shovel for the blokes ;-)... Catering will be limited to orders from a local cafe or byo, we will have water and soft drink available as well as coffee and tea. If we get a big response we will have to limit numbers so please call 0421 057 736 or email david7660@gmail to book your place. Please note this is not a grand opening and we still have a long way to go with our rebuild so that will happen later. We're looking forward to seeing plenty of smiling faces, cheers!

14.01.2022 A big thank you to the Glengarry Gun Shop for organising a raffle to support our club, your donation was received and is greatly appreciated

14.01.2022 Ah the rollercoaster that is bushfire recovery!!!! We approached Bendigo Bank about insurance for the club. They approached 9 insurers, all with the same answer Can anyone out there please recommend any insurers that might be willing to insure us?

13.01.2022 This is ridiculous! I cannot believe that firearms licence holders should be held to a higher level than anyone else.

13.01.2022 Look what arrived today! A pallet of clays (60 boxes) donated by Spartan Global. Thanks so much theyre greatly appreciated

13.01.2022 Theres an article about us in the latest Field & Game magazine.

13.01.2022 Members Supporting Members Its with heartfelt gratitude that we thank everyone who donated to this campaign by Field and Game Australia. We have received $15,350.60 from FGA which will be used for the concrete pad for our new shed which was donated by Stramit Industries and Riviera Barns.... Most humbling is the donation from Russell Foster and his wife (sorry, we dont know her name) of $2958.33. This was their share from the Members Supporting Members campaign but they thought we needed it more! How incredibly generous! Thankyou just feels a bit pale, maybe we can put your name on the water tank well most likely use the money for! To everyone who has donated thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. If Ive missed anyone along the way please accept my apologies. We plan to sit down and compile a list of donations and acknowledge them properly in the future.

12.01.2022 Sorted! Saturday August 1st we are holding a 75 target comp. Most likely simulated field. Please email or message me if you are planning to come so we can put covid procedures in place. We look forward to seeing you there David Whittle 0421 057 736 [email protected]

12.01.2022 We were having a discussion today as to whether calling ourselves a "gun club" is hurting us in regards to grants and donations. What are peoples thoughts?

12.01.2022 A good day today, GROCON have started the cleanup and we received notification we were successful in the Community Sport Sector Short-term Survival Package ($1000) Ill post more pics as the cleanup progresses.

12.01.2022 We're retiring our old Gemini DTL thrower. It was operating but jamming and smashing a lot of targets. We dismantled it to remove it from the trap house. We'd like a donation for it if anyone wants it. Please message the club if you're interested.

11.01.2022 For those coming to the working bee tomorrow it might be worth bringing your gun, hoping there might be time for a shot If anyone is free today well be doing a bit of prep work at the club, well be there from about 9.30.

11.01.2022 Just a quick reminder to those attending the shoot tomorrow, please remember to byo food as we won't be catering. There will be tea, coffee and water available and soft drink for sale. It will be 75 target Simulated Field. Looking forward to seeing you there

10.01.2022 G'day everyone, we hope you had a joyous Christmas! The committee has had a discussion re our membership fees for 2021 and decided that as we haven't been able to shoot this year we are extending free membership for 2021 to all those who paid their membership in 2020. We know it's been a tough year for our members, the club and the shooting community as a whole and really hope that people will stick with us through our rebuild. It's going to be an exciting year in a great way... we're certain. We look forward to seeing many old members, new members and visitors to the club.

10.01.2022 Sorry we haven't put anything up for a while, we're in limbo at the moment. We're waiting on our planning and building permit for shed and toilet so we can't start work on them. Our biggest issue at the moment is our boundary fence. We've been told that we need to get a permit to clear the fence line, this is because our boundary isn't a title boundary. We're told the best chance of getting a permit is to have a report done and if approved purchase a land offset. Rough quo...tes on going down this path are $70,000 - $80,000 plus clearing and fencing, which we simply don't have the money for this. The upside is that the East Gippsland Shire are trying to secure funding to cover this. We have asked EGSC, DELWP and Victoria Police to come together to find a mutually acceptable way forward for us as they are the government departments we must comply with. Individually they have all been trying to help but they need to consult with each other. We are still having 4WD's and motorbikes ignoring signs, removing star pickets and entering our grounds. We want to install some really serious bollards across the old track they use by and make it too daunting for them to contemplate pulling out. If anyone has some old railway track or similar they'd like to donate it would really help us. We've had some steel donated but need more. Thanks to the generous donations we've received we have some money in the bank but because we don't know what it will cost just to meet the council and government requirements for boundaries and toilet we need to minimise our costs wherever possible. Due to the boundary issue we cannot hold shoots and therefore have no income, which doesn't help the situation. We're working hard behind the scenes to get these issues resolved and try to get back to some sort of normality. When the fire went through 10 months ago if you'd have told me we'd struggle to be up and running in a years time I wouldn't have believed them! We continue to try to move forward, thank you everyone for your support.

10.01.2022 Does anyone have any wheelie bins theyd like to donate please? We lost 4 in the fires. Even if you cannot help directly please share. We contacted the shire and their waste contractor but they werent helpful because we dont pay rates. We do have to pay tip fees when we empty them but that made no difference. Weve also written some begging emails to manufacturers but no luck there either, not even a reply.

10.01.2022 What a fantastic day! 18 shooters enjoyed warm sunny conditions with very little wind. Congratulations to the winners. More photos to follow.

09.01.2022 DELWP are visiting the club tomorrow, hoping for a good outcome!

09.01.2022 The cleaned up club grounds might not change much for a while, we cant seem to get any information from council re the planning process. Still working on finding a building surveyor.

09.01.2022 On Friday we received a donation of $820 from Graham Seeds. Graham's seeds have a program whereby they donate a percentage of what is spent with them to a non profit Sports club nominated by the purchaser. Michael Ritchie from Orbost buys seeds from Graham's and nominated us.... A big thank you to Michael for thinking of us and to Graham Seeds in Yarragon for their generosity.

08.01.2022 A big thankyou to Riviera Barns and Sheds and Stramit Corporation for their donation of our massive (12m X 12m) shed. This shed gives the club an opportunity for a great future and the ability to keep most of our equipment under one roof. After the fire our future didnt look great but donations like this make things look very promising. Thankyou to everyone who has donated to us, its very appreciated.

07.01.2022 There will not be a comp this weekend at Mallacoota. We need to get this silly boundary fencing issue sorted before we can have comps.

06.01.2022 OK, so when I put up the last post about having a comp on August 4th how come nobody said "hey dopie thats a Tuesday!!!" ? We need to work out some details so Ill post the correct date soon.

06.01.2022 If anyone finishes reading their May copy of the Field & Game magazine and doesnt want to keep it Id love a couple of extra copies please.

05.01.2022 A couple of new additions to the club in the last week We are rebuilding! Stramit Corporation with the assistance of Riviera Barns and Sheds have delivered the promised 12m X 12m shed. And we purchased a new water tank. Now we wait for permits and scratch up money for the concrete to do the shed justice. And the whisper is GROCON are doing the cleanup soon. Exciting times Watch this space!

05.01.2022 Were a bit disappointed, we missed out on the Australian Sports Foundation sports recovery grant. We still have some other irons in the fire

04.01.2022 Some interesting information from a member from Echuca Moama today. Apparently under the new restrictions people from NSW can come into Victoria as long as they travel no further than 50km in from the border they can return with no self isolation afterwards. It may be worth checking this information with the NSW authorities if youd like to attend our shoot on August 1st.

04.01.2022 I tried to buy a fan heater in Bairnsdale today, none, zip, nothing! None of the retailer's have them. They sold out early in the season and due to Covid-19 new supplies haven't arrived. We want one to use as a base load for our generator. If anyone has one (around 2000w) they'd like to donate we'd really appreciate it.

04.01.2022 The weather forecast for our first official shoot since the fires is getting better each day It's going to be DTL and if we get a few squads we may have a round of simulated field. Hope to see you on Saturday for a 10am start.

04.01.2022 There's been a lot of work going on at the club. John from Eastern Vegetation Contracting has been busy getting rid of the burnt and dying trees and scrub. We're planning on planting natives along our front boundary and some stands within the ground. It's going to look very different for our upcoming shoots. Our next comp is on Saturday May 1 at 10am, probably 75 target DTL. Hope to see you there

03.01.2022 Can everyone whos planning to come to our shoot tomorrow please ensure that you have contacted the club so we know how many people are coming. We will obviously have restrictions to comply with Covid-19 guidelines and we will be asking people to do all the right things like social distancing, and appropriate personnel hygiene. If you need to call, my phone number is 0421 057 736

03.01.2022 Our first competition since the fires was an outstanding success! We had 19 shooters attend and there were smiles everywhere! We had 3 rounds of simulated field which was a bit challenging due to not having a lot of throwers but we got there with the help of Gordon Macalpine who helped us set up on Friday and provided security overnight, thanks Gordon. Keith Ferguson took out the Top Gun with 71/75, closely followed by Jim Stynda on 70, Mark Grumley 69 and Ryder Miller (a ju...nior) on 68. A special thanks to Morwell FGA, Moe FGA and Sale FGA, without the traps you guys donated there wouldnt have been a shoot as we just didnt have the equipment. Thanks also to Glengarry gun shop for the donation of bins and baskets for the used shells they looked very professional, without these we would have used burned, rusty paint drums! Thanks also to anyone who helped out and especially to Gaye for the catering. To all those who traveled, Its not a quick trip to Mallacoota from anywhere really and your attendance and support is really appreciated. I have attached some vids of the shooting but forgot to take pics of everyone enjoying themselves, sorry. With the Covid-19 restrictions it will be sometime before we can shoot again but Mallacoota has a lot of plans in process so when we do open up again it could be quite different with a lot of improvements. I will put updates on FB as they occur. Stay safe

03.01.2022 Just got some fantastic news. Stramit Corporation (manufacturers of colorbond, zincalume and building products) have donated the Mallacoota Gun Club and the Mallacoota Pony Club a shed each! These are no garden sheds, the gun club is getting a 12m X 12m shed! A big thank you to Stramit and Riveria Barns and Sheds who have organised the shed and are doing the permit applications for us. Now we need concrete and lots of it!

02.01.2022 Good news / bad news! Everhard Industries are donating a septic tank to the club which is fantastic The bad news is we were unsuccessful for the REECE grant as they are concentrating on people who lost everything, which is very understandable.

01.01.2022 The newest addition to the club! Needs a little work but if we slash the grounds once it will have paid for itself Thanks to Tony Cooper for organising and transporting it for us.
